So since 2.0 I've never encountered the "new" machine endgame crisis as it had been described. However I have role played my way into a number of mid game robot rebellions.

What is the difference between the two?

Do you have synthetic dawn ? I might be wrong but I think it's required for the Contingency.

EDIT : Apparently not, thanks for the correction

I have Synth Dawn and I also only ever got them once, right after Synth Dawn was released. I got the Unbidden once or twice a long time ago, before the Contingency was added. Since 2.0 I only ever get the Scourge. I think I played ~20 games until Crisis in total.

The contingency is amazing, it used to be weighted really high so it was what most players saw. This was fine when it was the new thing, but Pdox thankfully evened out the weights again. This is why we are surprised you haven’t seen it.

I don’t want to spoil too much, but if you are a long time player, a certain ‘beta’ system that matches an ‘alpha’ system you know and love shows up. The machine fallen empire either has your back or loses its marbles. The spawn mechanics are ... different for this one (and incredibly scary with the old FTL system). Lastly, get your Voight-Kampff on!

The older version was the boring “spaceport destruction simulator”, good riddance!

The RNG gods must hate me then :(

Yea, sorry to hear that (although the Prethoryn are still cool!). A few tips to boost the others:

Make sure you are spawning the machine FE and some default empire has synthetics, preferably a lot of them.

Unbidden is still boosted the same way, psionic jump drives and the wanderlust chain.

I actually played a multiplayer game recently with my buddy, who has never seen the Contingency either like OP. So we both picked a Materialist Empire and went full Synthetics. By the time the crisis hit, we each owned a quarter of the galaxy (meaning 20-30 planets, plus I had half of the cybrex ringworld restored) everything populated with hundreds of Synths. Guess which crisis we got?!

latest

Yup.

They really should make multiple crisis a start option. Yeah there is a mod for it, but it's sometimes fun to have a game knowing a hammer might drop on you late game. It'd also solve the issue where folks constantly get one type of crisis.

Before we got the contingency, I used to get unbidden, unbidden all and every time after that it was a long time just contingency and now I am still tweaking the end setting as it usually is always too long until then to bother keep playing.

Yeah... for some reason I always get the Scourge or the Unbidden. Every. Single. Time.

Probably because I do typically role play my way into a machine uprising... and then exterminate those malfunctioning murderbots... I've found the AI, even materialist, doesnt typically get beyond robots as far as AI development goes... and most dont even built any of those.
