"SS" units are just like any other infantry or armor divisions. They weren't special, they weren't "elite" (except in the sense of experience.. which is easy to do in game.) Just make normal motorized and armor divisions.. name them "1st SS, etc" Voila.

There's nothing "fail" about this DLC. This is Hearts of Iron_done right. If only for one nation. Can't wait to see them do a Soviet or English DLC..

When they *are* modded in, consider it a bonus. Icing on the cake. The cherry on top.

Not compatible with this DLC.

I agree with everything, but Waffen-SS would be special in Dies Irae, because Danevang would have made beautiful graphics for them.

I'll look at the gfx part of the mod as soon as I have the time. At the moment the CK2 portraits are getting all my attention. :)

Yep as we said earlier we are willing to support the DLC with some free stuff (including SS) but you have to be patient (don't expect anything before the release of FtM I think). :)

Of course we will patch it from day one (I already have a patch in the pocket but I wait for at least a week in order to have the most reports I can).

I just put in my preorder. I currently have the 2.04e patch. Is this compatible with the new release?

Historically, the SS units were somewhat "heavier" than regular Wehrmacht divisions. They also were first in line for replacements and updated equipment. I seem to recall reading that their divisions also had more support units and some even had an extra regiment attached.

That's mostly myth, though. They didn't get new tanks any quicker than Heer panzer divisions, the only extra firepower to speak of was organic Flak units. At times a company of Tigers were integrated into the OOB but that was far from standard. Even then, the majority of SS divisions were anything but elite - some were quite unfit for duty. (The 6th SS division was routed from it's first encounter with the enemy. The 17th SS used bicycles for transport, etc.) The number of halftracks were no different from standard pz. divisions (lucky if one battallion had enough).

Units like 2nd panzer had far more experience (and IMHO were far more successful) than the SS panzer divisions.

OT: I put my pre-order in last night. Can't wait to play.

yes and no. that only applies for some SS units and also not over the entire war. at the beginning they were poorly trained and badly equipped.
better equipment and reinforcements were also received by several other divisions (großdeutschland, panzer-lehr, brandenburger, hermann göring...). the SS divisions had its own support units because the heeresdivisionen simply used heer support units attached to a higher level in the chain of command.
even the few better SS divisions did not have any superiority to the average heer division.
the super strong waffen-ss division is just a propaganda myth!

edit: good that i still have some blue coins left.

Weren't there also a few mounted SS divisions as late as 1944? Doesn't seem like the most 'modern and elite' division to me.

Those units weren't German. They were Bosnian units used to fight partisans.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8th_SS_Cavalry_Division_Florian_Geyer

40% were from Transylvania and Serbia, the rest of the unit were German. That's not the only "about as far from elite" division in the SS OOB however..

4th SS Polizei was nothing special. Policemen given infantry division equipment. 6th SS. Already mentioned, fled from first battle. 7th SS. 2nd rate division used for anti-partisan duties. It goes on and on.

There were only about ~5 "elite" SS divisions (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 12th - if you could even count the last one), and they are no more special than your 'standard' Panzer division. If you think they deserve more firepower, well, throw in a TD to go with 1x ARM and 2x MOT.

The majority of SS units were -below- average. Keep in mind there were 38 (divisions) of them!

OT: What kind of "installer" are we looking at? Simple .exe? More complex? "Just like the mods" won't help me any - never installed a mod. Could use some decent directions.

The American paratroopers at the time were considered the "elite" infantry of the US...although their training and equipment wasn't to different from standard riflemen.

Well...they were trained to jump out of an airplane. :)
