That usage is not universal and neither is it accurate. We have perfectly good terminology for things like that, I don't see why there is insistence on simply using the wrong term over and over again until people see it as the right term when there already exists a term for it.
What word are you thinking of that is the supposed vox propria for a Steam achievement that is triggered by a thing happening in game that is mostly down to luck, or that is unlocked unavoidably merely by making progress in the game (e.g., by finishing a chapter in one of the Telltale games)? I would just call those "achievements", because that is what they are.
