The Omani Cession: 1857 - 1869
By the 1860's, many loyal soldiers that helped the Republic through its wars and colonial adventures were growing quite old, and as they had been soldiers all their life they had barely managed to have enough to live by the day, thus there was a proposition by the veterans that a minimum wage should be instituted throughout Transvaal in order to help the people save money for when they are unable to work. While this upset the Aristocrats who now had to pay more, it greatly improved the life of the citizens of the Republic, and motivated Europeans to move there as few European countries had such laws.
The Geneva Convention was also signed, which intends to regulate warfare, it's pretty neat.
In 1864 Tutankhamun's Tomb was discovered by a Dutch archaeologist, granting the country lots of prestige.
The region of Mombasa was suffering greatly at the hands of the Omani Arabs who kept on increasing their taxes and capturing slaves to trade. As more Mombasans revolted, the President Marthinus Wessel Pretorius declared that the Omani colonies in Mombasa shall be ruled by Pretoria (the capital of Transvaal).
War is soon declared and four regiments are sent to assault Muscat, the Omani capital. Before landing, an Omani transport is sunk in battle.
A messenger was sent from the Asian colonies, the message told of Omani soldiers assaulting the province of Ipoh, this was unexpected as all Omani forces seemed to have been defeated in Muscat.
After taking Zanzibar and Muscat, another army was sent to liberate Johor. The Omani troops were no match for Transvaali rifles, and in fear of the anihilation of his entire army Sultan Thuwaini bin Said surrendered the Mombasa region.
In 1869 a Boer explorer discovered that the regions of Zambia and Zambezi were fertile, rich, and colonizable, thus hundreds of Transvaali citizens started moving in to acquire the cheap farmlands.
Transvaal by the end of 1869:
Sorry for having such a short update for such a long period of time, but there was not much happening. For some reason a province in Zambezi and one in Zambia has a liferating of 25, allowing me to colonize them before the discovery of Machine Guns, had I realized that before I could have had an advantage in the scramble for Africa, sadly I realized this to late.
