I hope the modding dev diary will contain modding information about flags, CoAs, titles, holding types etc.

I've been wanting an easy way for dynamic flag change for a very long time for example and I really would like to mod the hell out of holding types which is sadly not possible since they are hardly moddable; would love to see that change.

I assume tho that the modding dev diary will be primarily about the new 3d portraits.

They already did show some cod for the Coat of Arms.

Very editable! The textures are simply raw elements (e.g. a lion or a cross) and then we position and colour them in script. Here's how you might script your example (it's not actually Python, but that makes nice formatting on the forums!):

Python:
e_bjorn = {
    pattern = "pattern_solid.tga"
    color1 = "blue" # the background is solid blue

    colored_emblem = {
        texture = "ce_fleur.dds" # we have two yellow fleur-de-lis at the top...
        color1 = "yellow"
        color2 = "yellow"
        instance = { position = { 0.33 0.33 } scale = { 0.5 0.5 }  } # top left, half size
        instance = { position = { 0.67 0.33 } scale = { 0.5 0.5 }  } # top right, half size
    }

    colored_emblem = {
        texture = "ce_star_05_pierced.dds" # ...and a single white and red star at the bottom
        color1 = "white"
        color2 = "red"
        instance = { position = { 0.50 0.67 } scale = { 0.5 0.5 }  } # bottom, half size
    }
}

I wouldn't get too excited by that. I don't think Imperator has any mods for that, and even the 2d animated portraits of Stellaris barely get any mods outside of the few popular ones (and really they are just drawings applied on already existing animations).
At best, we can hope for more color variation. I know some people won't like to hear that, but anything else seems unlikely. I don't think people realize how difficult it is to mod dynamic 3d models, or that modding is something you are doing entirely on your own. The devs don't provide tools to create your own stuff. You won't have a window with a pretty interface and sliders so you can add elf ears for instance. The modder will have to start from scratch and make sure everything interacts well with the rest of the game.

So yellow eyes is something we could get fast, but dragons and ents... I doubt we'll ever get them.

Just a little correction, there's several mods with custom 3D art in Imperator. I worked on the LOTR mod where I createdoutfits for the various races,the nazgul, the witch king, created new morhp shapes which can be used in the editor for new shapes such as the various ear shapes of the different races, or the butt-ugly orcs :p Sure there weren't many of us doing 3D art, but then again, Imperator's play base dropped so significantly in such a short amount of time. CK3 will definitely be pulling more players and so more chance of more artists capable of that kind of work. I'm not saying to get too excited, but also have some faith in the modding community :)
