i am starting a thread of things that surprised you in EU2. I thought i had pretty much everything in the game figured out when something like this pops out:

assdf9et.png

So you cannot embargo a nation while at truce with them.

I didnt know that. Did you?

:D

You are an idiot Fnuco :D

That is there so that you can stop embaroges by beating the embargoing country in war. Otherwise they could just re-embargo ;)

Did you know that you can right click on a building of units to stop its construction?

Did you know that you could beat someone up in a war and be unable to embargo them? You can loose you ability to embargo someone by beating them in a war which is very stupid.

Well, the embargo thing i knew. But here two things I just recently stumbled upon:
-Did you know you can explore undiscovered provinces of countries you have military access from, also by simply moving fleets into their undiscovered ports (which is btw a damn fast method of exploration)? I did not till a few days ago...
-Did you know that when your army, in an empty province, is beaten by fe natives and retreating, you can split it, causing a half of it to stop fleeing?

Did you know you only get 2BB for DoW without CB if your relations are +100 or more?

Did you know that trade efficiency used to not help empty slot placement success until a trade efficiency of 100% was reached? This was recently changed in 1.09.

Did you know that trade efficiency and trade tech level both improve chances of merchants staying in CoTs?

Did you know that zero Mercantilism (full Free Trade) helps merchants stay in foreign CoTs? But it may be that full Mercantilism helps merchants stay in your own CoTs.

Did you know that a fleet of 101 ships led by an explorer does not suffer from any sort of attrition?

Did you know that a fleet of 17 ships can sail anywhere without ever making port so long as reorganize is clicked each month?

Did you know that a single ship recently from port can resupply a large fleet that has not made port in a long while? This is great for maintaining blockades. The manner in which you merge ships is important (see my Naval FAQ; link is in my signature).

Did you know that a ship in an unfortified colony can capture or recapture the province in war (or as a defense from ToT capture)?

Did you know a single non-retreating ship can block a strait even if it is engaged in battle?

Did you know that an ally of a nation that you are at war with will not grant you military access until your war is concluded or their alliance is altered?

Did you know that some nations, when released as vassals, have a hard-coded religion? For example, Kingdom of Jerusalem in Judea is always Catholic.

Did you know that when releasing a non-pagan vassal, you lose badboy even for trade posts and colonies that nation may have?

Did you know that turbo-annex after government collapse costs 2BB per province?

Did you know that you have a good deal of control over or ability to predict the direction that enemies will retreat after battle? Enemies prefer to retreat where there is the lowest strength of enemy forces and where there is the highest base supply level (before midifications like winter are factored in).

Did you know that disembarking armies didn't suffer from attrition, on the contrary of embarking armies ?

Did you know that you can manage to get your capital in America, as a starting european, through releasing all your european provinces as vassals ?

Did you know that in previous patches, you could move an army across the whole Europe in just a month ?
Those who knew it, did you know you no longer can do it ?

Did you know that trade can weaken your diplomacy ?

Did you know that you can continuously decrease your BB by releasing vassals from your cores, letting them be annexed by ennemies in a war, and taking the provinces back in a second war (or in the same war, pre-1.08beta) ?

Did you know that, albeit you don't get the already built Tax Collectors and Chief Judges when getting a new province, you still get the Governors ?

did you know… of course you did. But it was new for me: you can unveil a yet undiscovered sea-zone in your coastal province by building a ship in the port. Very useful for Spain after the conquest of South America.

and it took me two years to discover the shift-click thing :eek:o

No I did not. Could you please make an example.

If we take POR as an example I assume it is impossible for them since they cannot relase any vassal from their 4 original European provinces (did not check that before I wrote this post, since I am at work, but I cannot recall having seen that possibility in any of my portuguese games).

Nope, it depends on what country you start with. A german player has it easy, as until 1500 he can release Germany. All it takes, is to get Portugal's maps, colonize a province in America (somewhere on the continent, preferably), and then release Germany. :)

It's not automatic tough, you have to check revolt.txt file before to carefully choose your country.

* PS : I found this out through a revolt, but I doubt it wouldn't work through vassal-release.

I knew that, works the same way for Belgium in Vicky.
The Netherlands must be the ideal for this method, no?

Portugal can release Porto, Almohad and Coimbra as vassals, but none include Lisbon so the capital cannot be moved. :)

Did you know that you can move your army to terra incognita, even if you don't have conquistador if it belongs to other state. Useful when you are conquering neighbourgs whose territory you don't know.
