I looked in the usual \Users\me\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II folder and only found mod folders there. How do I find my savegames?
Did they recently change the save game location?

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
There has to be a "save games" folder in the end of path you mentioned. If there isnt and you are sure you actually have saved games, go make another save named something like "iwantmysavegamesback" and use windows search to find a file with such a name.
If you are using mods, well some have a user_dir path inluced in their modname.mod file
Open that with an editor and put a # in front of user_dir if you don't want another location. This line simply creates a folder with the same name in your CK2 directory.
Example in NBRT+

I have a feeling this ironman mode is turning my SSD to pudding, on top of taking a really long time each auto-save. I want to try on a mechanical drive, see if there is any difference...

It's a stickied thread in the Tech Support subforum. You need to register CK2 (with the so called CD key in Steam) here in the forum to get access.
That would be nice, It seems like you have to jump through so many hoops to get all this paradox stuff connected. I've connected my steam profile to this account, and just connected the CK2 key to it but that tells me the key cannot be found.
I used to have an account under this same email years ago with a bunch of games connected, then Paradox arbitrarily decided that needed to be "activated", the end result being a fresh account somehow. I can't activate any of the games I had activated before. Luckily I was lazy and never activated anything but the base CK2 and EU4, and perhaps some other things. As you can see I have DLC for both and I linked my steam account so it stands to reason I own them. Still I cannot access.

All you have to do is paste the CD-Key ( find it in the Steam launcher library on the right side or as an option if you right click the game there)
in here above at "Register a Game" (in the old forum it was "My Games").
If that is many hoops then i don't know....
You need to register your base game, not the DLCs.
They don't matter regarding this issue. Registering DLCs only gives a shiny icon.

PS: I don't know what all this " i linked my Steam account/profile with this forum acount" actually means and i somehow doubt that this is of any use, but i try to avoid Steam stuff anyway, so there might be a point, but i never ever read of this linking both accounts before.

There are hoops. And you're right I do have two accounts, sort of. I assumed this was under my new email since the old one asked me to register again. After digging around that email I found a registration e-mail going back to 2011, and another in 2013, then a new one now. Tell me what kind of system allows the same email to register three times? And even after registering with paradoxplaza, you have to "activate" again to the forum, which I can't do for no explicable reason. How are these not hoops? These are hoops.
And now I have keys split across both emails, (despite the former effectively not existing) because I assumed if my old email wasn't recognized it must have been because it had never been registered, silly I know.
I am going to go make a help desk person's life miserable now I guess.

I don't really understand what you try to tell me in this part, BUT i have a suspicion...
At some point the Paradox Account got invented (for all kind of interactive stuff, the only account one has here nowadays).
The old forum account, which one logged into with the account name instead of the e-mail is now basically obsolete.
To take the old account info into the new Paradox account one had to merge the old one by creating a new one with the same email address,
so that the old info got transfered into the new account.
Probably you got confused with these both accounts and what its for etc and with emails (well i did at first),
so you created a new account with a new email address and this caused the issues you now have.
No unknown issue. You are not the first.
At Zendesk they should be able to help.
