Fighting Denmark as Russia, they march into Kola in winter, and I look forward to my minimal fortress wiping out most of their 18k men, and the AI instantly assaults (and wins quickly, of course).

Anyone else notice quick, smart assaults?

Edit - to be clearer, I changed my sarcastic thumbs down to up...

Edit Edit: ok, so I can't change it. FWIW - if I could I would. Anyone who can, please do.

But you can't be beat. You ARE the player, and more importantly, you can think independently of coded AI behavior. :)

We can?! How come nobody ever told me about this free thinking thing? :D

I have seen the AI assaulting in pre 1.05

Just try to play Poland in the "Napoleons Ambition" Scenario. Very informative if you want to know how to lose a game ;)

Some countries like to assault a lot, even in 1.04 I think... Especially France I think. Since they usually get the required landtech ahead of all other Western states (except the human player if he fares well, and isn't playing the Timurides), they assault like 20 years before everybody else, and keep doing so. A lot.
Maybe that's because the AI is supposed to assault when it has leaders, and since France has a huge number of them...
Comments anybody?
:)

The AI assaulting wasn't the point, the point was that the AI didn't sit and die from attrition in winter, they just went in there and assaulted, captured the province and went out. ;)

What the hell are people talking about?

AI Assualting is the reason I never usually wage war with the Ottomans during the sixteenth century -- they ALWAYS do it! They've BEEN that 'intelligent' ever since I think patch 1.03 or 1.04.

I think he has a point: an awful lot of AI nations used to invade with a 50k force in December, sit there through three months of winter and then use the remaining 27k to assault. Has the AI been taught that this is a really stupid idea? Hopefully so; if the AI uses the assault in appropriate measure, it's a big improvement on before. It also might mean the American tribes being wiped out a lot sooner, instead of hanging around till 1750.

Hmm...strange... I've only played the original game (no patches), and during some wars between Poland and Lithuania I've seen lots of assaults. But is it so that they didn't assault the human player?

Message posted by a fan that recently purchased the game.

I've seen the AI assault in the past, but usually only when they had A) a leader, B) overwhelming infantry superiority, C) after having first breached a city's walls. Sometimes even all three of the above wasn't enough for them. If they're doing it more often now, well bully for them! One of these days, I want to see the AI beat me in a fair fight. It'd be neat to see.

Of course I'll just go back to a saved game once it's happened... kidding, kidding... ;)
