okidoki here is that word again.

Meta

Some will rejoice, others will blow chunks just by hearing the word but here we are. It was inevitable to happen sooner or later and i prefer sooner.

i did the preliminary builds for the mechs we get at the start minus that garbage spider as it is hopeless and there is no way to get it to work in a Meta kind of way.

first off the BJ-1. Gawd i loathe the blackjacks. dunno why but somehow always have.

anyhoo here is the metaish build for it
https://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=77&l=2a6a6fb7dbd625f76b682587a9d29992989dd0e5

rationale is that alpha till you are cooking and then cool off, the MG's are there so that you can crit mechs that are popped open. The LL's give decent range and decent punch. MG's + ammo can be swapped for moar heatsinks if wanted.

then we get to the Shadowhawk 2-h. I truly detest this piece of garbage, but it can make a semi decent brawler

https://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=110&l=65cd777c247985f00af7c9f66c87d4de5f666bd3

LL for that ranged touch versus turrets, SRM's for the brawl and MG's to crit open components.

then we get to the vindicator. The role stays the same, namely firesupport but with a few more lurms and a few more mediums if your inevitably slow mech gets chased down by something.

https://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=206&l=36bd6b9dafaef190acbcb81c2fb67d0eac6dd118

have any other peeps done some metaing yet?

Based on combat experience from Beta v2...none of these are even remotely meta builds. Heat configurations alone cripple two of them.

Large Lasers are among, if not the absolute worst, effective ton for effective ton weapons on the board right now.

The first problem I see is that you've loaded up MG's in ballistic hardpoints. That works fine for MWO, but MG's in HBS BT use support hardpoints.

but for the damage output they are decent i would pick them over a PPC any day.

PPCs have significant non-damage secondary characteristics (they are the only energy weapon that imparts instability and their accuracy debuff is sneakily powerful).

LLs are the orphan weapon of HBS:BT right now, largely because their damage is outclassed by the AC/5 and their heat output is monstrous compared to what they can actually put out on the damage axis.

I think the Shadow Hawk is actually a sleeper in this game thanks to the AC buffs and the quirk giving it significantly higher melee damage.

It makes an excellent brawler platform, especially with massed SRMs and physical attacks. Unfortunately it doesn't have the tonnage to do much with the triple ballistic hardpoints its been given.

yeah especially if MG's can't be fitted into ballistic slots. without engine swaps you can't fit a triple ac2 build on it.

There is room for a bizzaro triple AC/2 build on a Shadow Hawk, but you're packing very thin armor to do it.

Stripping the JJs and hauling two tons of ammo you have room for eight tons of armor.

I don't get why Spider is classified as garbage, care to explain? It's an exceptional maneuverable Scout and valued highly in TT, and I see nothing in this game which changes that.

The biggest issue with the Spider is that it will kill itself simply by jumping its full distance.

well there are a few different lines of thinking in BT/MWO when it comes to weapons. I prefer to be running the redline with the option to dish out crazy amounts of damage. The other line of thinking is heat neutral with few weapons. I personally do not like it. Takes too long to kill enemies and you are vulnerable to your possibly only weapon being critted away. I don't see high heat curves as a hindrance on any level, quite the opposite in fact. Heat is good as it means that you are dishing out damage

because it is. sure its mobile but thats the only thing it has. it could be useful as a lurm boat spotter but again there are other mechs that can do that job and do not die when a badger sneezes at it and the other mechs can hurt more then the enemies feelings. the 5v just is garabage no way around it. if you field one you are constantly fighting 3 v 4
