Did really Mariina confirmed at Quill's Twitch that they will not add multiplayer?

I'd rather have a regional economy where several cities affect each other and there is a dynamic supply-demand interaction between cities.

Player should be able to have more than one region and be able to create a bunch of cities on each.

To get back on topic....
The only thing multiplayer I would like to see (for now) is a friends list with each friend's accomplishments. Maybe even a way to quickly check out their maps.
But real MP (actual co-operative building or even competitive) has a very low priority for me personally.

And a ranking list, where everyone has the max attainable score doesn't do it for me either (max money etc. Simcity showed that didn't work).

But I'm not against extra options at all (even MP, for other players)

I just don't get why people seem to think every game must have multiplayer...it doesn't!

Stardock does include multiplayer in most of their current titles but they did studies and so few % of the players of any game would ever do multiplayer so why bother unless you build it from the ground up as a MP title. You can't just "tack on" MP and be on your way. MP may be a vocal group, but it's a very low % of the playerbase for games like this and strategy games. Shooters yes. City sims and turn based strategy? Not so much.

So please devs, don't waste time trying to appease the small MP group. Perhaps a Cities Skylines 2 can be developed with MP by design, but seems that this game is not so don't try to cobble it on and then it'll just be bad and a waste of dev time for such a small team.

You guys don't get it about the multiplayer aspects.
People think "multiplayer" = simcity

grow up!
there is many aspects of multiplayer, not like adding someone to the region but try to get the ideas! think!
look at cities xl, they did just one little thing about multiplayer that was kind of cool after they actually fall off their first cities xl with monthly fees. They took their ideas to put it back into cities xl 2012 with the planet where you can actually choose your spot without going online!!
Multiplayer could be sporadic such as statistical data, or visual interpretation, to make you say "oh, my friend is in this continent, i can trade with him and make plane routes or ships route (transport tycoon fan here)
you don't need to add a "full multiplayer experience" you can just add a little tweak that will give you the sensation of having a cities among others. not like having a city on a squary map with no sight or whatsoever beyond it.
that is what cities xl succeded to do. you got your 10x10 km square, and then you can see the earth with your city on it, and say "oh great i can trade with "best friend city over there while im in there in the tropics"

Also "multiplayer" coud be ranged in one aspect, trade with the city you construct yourself! a feature which doesn't seem this game have!
it's like if you construct two cities, even in single player it would have been nice to trade with one another without going multi!! just this kind of idea people don't have! wouldn't have been nice to make cities yourself and trade tourism? oil? and stuffs?? you don't even scratch that idea!

i really don't get why people are so narrow minded.

i agree to have a solid base game, but i disagree of not pursueing the idea of something that can make a game enjoyable if it's thought right, and you guys have no imagination. (but maybe it's because im a game dev myself that i think beyond that, whatever...so let's keep the "lambda" idea, and be dumb to just stop at a sufficient level when you can reach higher layers.)

i'm also glad to see that there is not only sheeps here, and some peoople actually think rationally and have a good debate instead of stopping of what its in front of them.

The trouble is that in this game every person is simulated. So if a person of a neighbouring city visit your city that affects both cities and it would need permanent synchrony. That's quite difficult to organize. So it's not a surprise that it's not in the game. And I certainly won't miss it.

One big problem with MP in a game as modifiable as this will be, is making sure all players have the same mods installed.
This. Making this game as moddable as possible is fundamentally at odds with any multiplayer idea. If this ever ends up like Simcity 4, where the custom content of an average player is bigger than the game itself, you will end up with a synchronization nightmare. Also, at the moment, you would all have to work on the same city, right? I don't even see a working concept here.

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking. This game will be multi-player in my house the minute I open it on my computer and say to my kids, "Hey, come take a look at this..."

This is exactly my intention too. My elder daughter will tell me how to plant flowers and trees, my son will shout "oooh" for cars and fire trucks and the younger princess will try to unplug my power cable
After the SimCity debacle, no useless always on multipleyer please.

They've tried multiplayer in the past and they have all failed. They may find a way one day, but this kind of game just isn't MP friendly. I mean you have to have all players playing at exactly the same times or your cities stop working correctly. If you rely on the regional AI player (comp AI) taking over your city when you leave then it risks burning down your city or changing it in a major way. You would need everyone to play at the same speed.

Simcity's version was the best and kind of worked when playing live, but as soon as someone left it started breaking down the whole region. The only part of multiplayer that really worked where the in-game challenges as most were short term goal games. You could finish them in a few hours. but if you can't keep everyone on at the same time, the MP just isn't going to work.

One big problem with MP in a game as modifiable as this will be, is making sure all players have the same mods installed. I can see where this game will have a lot of repeat buildings by different builders, making compatibility an issue.

They could technically download mods from the workshop while joining or something :D

We do support the poor man's co-op though! You can share the save files and take turns building the city :)

The best kind of multiplayer for sure, IMO and for this type of game.

I'll build this mess of a city... you (a friend) fix it... and vice versa, etc.

I could never allow another player to mess with my WIP map. It was bad enough in SC2013 when somebody claimed an area and never returned, essentially ruining the entire region...although I can't blame them :D

Why does everyone these days want MP in every single game? I mean, am I the only one who thinks that some games/genres should just be Single player? I want all of my game to be me and me only!

If you put the file on a flash drive and mail it to your friend, you can even play by mail, like in the good old days of gaming ;)

Personally I don't see any reason to add in multiplayer in a game like this. Though having an outside world that changes over time could be neat.

Yea, a feature like that could be nice. Maybe even a co-op mode where you can work together to build your city, in the form of a future DLC. In the meantime though, i'm really glad you guys are focusing on single-player. It really is a single player suited genre, Cities XL and SimCity 2013 are proof of what happens when you try to force multiplayer on a single player suited genre.

+1 for the single player bandwagon. If someone else wants to build a multiplayer city builder then good luck to them... but I'm glad at least one dev doesn't feel the need to turn everything multiplayer... experience shows that if a game is released as multiplayer then in 100% of cases its sequel will be a MOBA.

Multiplayer in five easy steps:

1. Invite people to your house
2. Put the kettle on.
3. Give them a chair.
4. Play.
5. Talk to each other.

Extra bonus points if you wear ties and take meeting minutes every time you decide what to build.
You can also cycle it if you have too many guests: the other group can play a racing game on your Playstation 2 while the others play C:SL. If some people bring laptops, they can also LAN Civilization or something.

For maximum efficiency, buy Irn Bru and distribute it to your guests. It will guarantee a fun evening.
