The devs have said *repeatedly* that

1) This game has no multiplayer in it.

2) There are currently no plans to implement multiplayer.

3) After launch, multiplayer *may* be something that is *considered*. No guarantees. Personally I'd bet that this game never gets multiplayer, and I'd be quite happy with that.

This is a single-player game. Please do not buy it expecting to get multiplayer at some point. :)

From what I've read that is the case, yes.

Quote from the FAQ:
Is Cities: Skylines multiplayer?
No. Cities: Skylines was designed to be the best single player experience possible.
"Honestly I would not expect CSL to head into an online mode in any near future unless there's an unprecedented amount of feedback asking for this after launch, which I really can't see happening. Still it's not impossible, just improbable.
And I agree that more singleplayer gameplay is a lot more valuable than bloating it with a MP mode."

No, please! It's a SP game and all the possible efforts to carry it up to a great level of depth shouldn't go to shallow multiplayer implementation. Money and labor should work to improve and add features to the game rather than leaving it shallow for the sake of some chatting.

Why? There is no point in arguing whether or not the game should have multiplayer. It doesn't.

Yup. This game does not have multiplayer. There are no plans to add it. The promise that they may consider it in the future if there is a lot of demand is basically nothing. So if you really want multiplayer just don't buy the game. It's that simple.

It's easy to multiplayer the game. Just email each other the save game :)
The only downside is no simultaneous multiplayer, but I don't think that's an issue.

I'd rather have them using their scarce resources to improve the game, than to add multiplayer, something that's not really suited for this genre.

Pretty sure they've been saying that since they first annouced the game.

I love how naive people are about how programming a game actually works to think it's just something that can be simply tacked on later, like its a simple on/off switch. Ha ha (Refering to the ppl on Steam forums and not OP).

Adding a multiplayer mode *will* interfere with the single-player mode. It will introduce bugs, balance issues, and overhead, especially if the game was not designed for MP in the first place. Indirectly, it will take away developer resources from improving and expanding the original game.

In SC2013, there were multiple towns to be claimed on each map. Here, that is not possible...and with multiple players claiming one or two out of nine tiles for themselves, you're back to tiny plots again. The pressure on the system will only get worse if several players will have to be synced, so forget about more tiles than nine. Even though SC2013 was designed as a multiplayer game, it never worked properly, not to mention players abandoning their cities, players being rude or cheats etc. Not saying CO can't do it, but it will be very, very difficult and may require a complete re-write of the code.

I really hope CO and PDX stick to their guns on this, it's a Pandora's Box hidden inside a can of worms...

One big problem with MP in a game as modifiable as this will be, is making sure all players have the same mods installed. I can see where this game will have a lot of repeat buildings by different builders, making compatibility an issue.
Giving players the ability to upload their maps to play on is as close as we need to get to multi-player. (IMHO)
Having the ability to show off what you did with it is a plus.

Well i'm not going to be losing any sleep over the lack of multiplayer. Really couldn't care less.

There are plenty of multiplayer games out there that are ideal to play competitively with friends. City Building isn't one of them.

Multiplayer in five easy steps:

1. Invite people to your house
2. Put the kettle on.
3. Give them a chair.
4. Play.
5. Talk to each other.

Extra bonus points if you wear ties and take meeting minutes every time you decide what to build.

I don't see necessary the multiplayer mode in a game of this type. As said Mariina, this game is to play alone, without anyone bothering you.

In addition, the latest multiplayer experience in a game of cities went wrong, you know, SimCity 5...

I agree with the general consensus. Multiplayer doesn't suit city builders. Kalypso talked up multiplayer for Tropico 5 but it was by and large a complete flop and waste of time. I'd rather see developers focus on some of the other (many) requests we've seen...

Unlike Kalypso, Paradox and CO are actually smart about their priorities!
