Did muslim children truly have regencies? I just can't imagine the seljuk horde waiting around for lil arslan alp to grow up, in my mind any child ruler in the muslim would be deposed...tried googling this so I thought i'd try here, so does anyone know how muslims dealt with a child ruler?

There are several answers for the Islamic world, but if its Seljuks you're thinking of, just google the title 'Atabeg'.

thanks, had a read on the wiki, and it seems my presumption was right heh, these "atabegs" seemed to take power from their wards when able....but what about places such as egypt, or the kurds? did thyey work in similar ways?

They had regencies, although rarely. For instance Murad IV of the Ottoman Empire took over at the age of 11 and for the first years he was under the control of his relatives. Not exactly a regent, but instead a group of family members.

Yeah it doesn't make a great deal of sense to talk about "Muslims" as a whole. The Turks would operate in a very different way from the Andalucians (and at different times).

Of course there were plenty of cases of Regency Councils in the Christian world too, but the game doesn't model them either.

The Seljuks had a regency after the death of Kaykhusraw II for his 3 sons http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaykhusraw_II

There was a regency in Syria after the death of Nur al-din as well
