Dont you worry i am not betting on anything, i do think as well that they should drive this home smoothly from here on out without more major delays.

I don't think you are necessarily wrong, but that is more because of the obvious reasoning behind that, than because johan said so. The lesson i learned is to not overvalue Dev statements and quotes from Johan get thrown around too often as if they will be holy truth for all eternity. Johan also once said there will be a release Q12015, then Podcat said Q2015 *pinky swear* and then Johan said there couldn't be possible any release this year because obviously.

I guess all i am saying that their communication policy has left me with a twitch in the eye whenever i see dev statements used in discussions. Not that they are wrong, its just... there are damages only a Fresh install of HOI IV can cure....

Regards

+1 to your last sentence. The information policy concerning the development is - with all respects - a mess in my opinion, but i already said that. For me, the release of the game is associated with so much negatives, that only a fresh installed and good fun HOI 4 may cure it. What concerns pdx, i don't believe their statements a bit, till i see them with my own eyes...

Who does the 'accepting' of the 'bid'?
A bit confusing, can't a gamedeveloper decide for itself if it's in Beta or not?

This couldn't be further from the truth.

We didn't assume a release date, we were told and they failed to meet it and took their sweet time telling us it was delayed.

Ok, this is legitimate, but honestly I thought we had moved on at this point. They have subsequently been very careful not to over-promise.

We also didn't assume anything about development. We were told when alpha started and after alpha started we were told 6 months from release and we were also told that they are hoping to be in beta by December.

As I remember the quote, six months from Alpha was a best-case estimate, not a promise. When the cable guy says he'll be here between 10 and 4, I'm not shocked when it turns out to be 3:30.

Now we are informed that they got denied beta and crunched all weekend to see if beta got accepted this time as since the plan was to be in beta in December to meet the six months from alpha release which would put release in March this beta would need to be accepted.

Again, denied beta was the first real news. This should have been an exciting update, "Guys, they are almost in Beta!". Somehow people are acting like they took something back, when they never said they were in Beta. This is what I meant about assumptions.

Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited about the game too. I basically created my forum account after months of lurking because I needed an outlet for all of my enthusiasm. But all in all, Paradox communicates near the level of an Indie developer, which is pretty crazy for an established studio. You also don't need to look far to find games that have been delayed multiple times, so while any delay is painful, we're hardly in the worst-case scenario.

I still fail to see how asking for an update is acting like something was taken..

People seem to be hearing what they want to hear. Or reading what they want to read for that matter.

No one claimed something was taken, no one claimed we have a right to this that or the other thing, and no one claimed that they aren't doing better with communication.

The request was simply hey don't do what you did last time, as that did happen last time and we don't want it to happen again, if we aren't going to be seeing the game in Q1 2015 and it looks like a possible delay give us a heads up.

That's not unreasonable in the slightest especially considering this game is already a year late.

Quit trying to change the other side of the debate to try and make it sound unreasonable. No one is making unreasonable demands and no one is acting entitled

I'm with you in this matter! Some people just put the critics in the "why isn't the game released yet? I can't wait!" corner, instead of really reading their posts. More infos are not unreasonable demands. To want to have more infos is just a natural thing, when you really like a game, that is being released in the future. I know, that the devs got plenty to do and i know, that they can't answer every post here. But just writing one (!!!) Sentence in the forum or on twitter about beta status is just a matter of seconds, which you could do just before leaving the office for lunch or home... and since johan at least is pretty active on twitter with other posting, there is no "i have not time" excuse valid in this thing...and i am sure, that the outcome of the beta submission from monday is already clear...

The problem is, that the lack of information leads to speculations, which makes at least me disappointed. When i heard about the beta-tester submissions, i was thinking: "ok! The game is in a good status! After the NDAs are sent back, Beta testing can start", which i assumed because of the lack of info, had begun in mid-november. Now we got mid-december and they say "btw it's not beta". But if they leave room for speculations willingly, they cannot hide behind something like "we didn't ever say it was beta".

If i am a lawyer and my client comes and gives me a case and i say "i'm sending out letters to witnesses for the case and the court" and say nothing in the following, my client must have to believe, that the case would go to court now. And i as a lawyer could not say afterwards "i never intended to discuss this case in court, because i didn't say so explicitly". What would you think of such a lawyer as a paying client?

The game is late now, which is ok for me, because i saw very cool improvements (wt, air force interface, nf). But -with all my respects- i hate this guessing game they play with me...
