As someone who was fairly dissappointed of their communication or lack thereof this spring i wouldn't put so much weight on the rejected beta.
Since they havent committed themselves to a release date they can take as much time as they think is necessary or can afford. We only measure their progress against the date we estimate they can release based on some information from them. (Want to reach beta in Dec, Beta takes 3to 6 months etc.) It seems they learned their lesson and when Johan starts the sentence with: "I shouldn't mention any dates..." he doesn't.
If you think better a later game than a bad game, sure. But we already have a late game, about a year later then their first intended release date.
Secondly there is something like diminishing returns on time invested at a certain point. When they release the game it will have bugs and flaws, an infinite amount of time developing doesnt translate into an infinetly good game. I am sure they want to get to a release themselves and are weighing the pros and cons of more months development.
I do hope as many others here that they will be able to release within the coming 6 months but a rejected beta doesnt change my outlook for the game. Its been the same since Q2 This year: I am waiting for the announcement of a release date.
