Just finally managed to getting around to coming to this forum, and as a huge fan of Hoi1, I'm excited! I don’t know if this has been talked about, but I'm sure it’s at least been brought up a bit. This is the biggest flaw in the first HoI. Please Please Please Please get rid of the time limit in the game!!!!! It was the completely worst thing about the first one! It limits so many things from playing smaller countries, to not simply enjoying the game!!! In the first HoI, I guess it was something with the engine, but now that a second is being made....I do hope they correct this grave mistake! I convinced probably 10 people to buy the first game myself, and we all agree how horrible the time limit is!

Point number two is the other big issue, which was a dissent option, or lack there of. Please put an option or console command that takes dissent off. Now I'm not against realism, and I'll play the USA, UK, or whoever with dissent on sometimes, but give the player the choice please! I love taking a smaller country and building them into a super power, but the dissent would kill this almost every time! Please just include some kind of option or choice for the player!!!

I know this is long, and I apologize if I just missed this covered in the faq sheets.

Long Live Prussia!

For dissent, just press F12 and type in event 1005, you lose some supplies, but your dissent goes down by some percent, repeat as needed. As for the time limit, it's in the game becuase the engine cannot successfully model the world post-1948, and they did not make the game to simulate the Cold War, but WWII. You can remove the time limit, just download the No Time Limit Mod, just don't expect any events post-1948.

I've used the event 1005 allot, but its still annoying having to watch your economy go to 0 every time you want to add another "state" to the union. But, I've not heard of the no time limit mod...don’t know how I could have missed it. Where would be a good place to download this? How big is the file? Any ideas? Thanks for info though....I still would like at least to see the game keep going.....who cares if there are no more events...If I've gotten my Bulgarian empire to control the middle east and Europe, I don’t want to have my conquest of north America to be foiled by some end of game thing.

Long Live Prussia!

You can type in event 1009 in the f12 console instead of 1005. 1009 removes dissent with no cost to you at all.

Actually, Paradox has said that the main reason they include a time limit is because if they let it go on till say 1960, they are expected to make sure the game runs stable and bug free until 1960. They also know that the modding community always comes out with a no time limit mod, so they don't want to spend the extra time playtesting those extra years when they don't have to.

Absolutely - what's the point in that?

Turning dissent off, is like the biggest cheat ever. Also, the No time limit is handy for the extra long conquering sprees...;)

Oh yes, including a time limit in a game that is about a specific period is a major flaw.

Well, different people have different tastes. If you don't want to play a WW2 simulation but turn HOI into a CIV-type game - it's everybodies choice to use the mods or modify the save game. Cheating or not, what is fun everybody decides for himself. And everybody will think differently about what is the greatest "flaw" of Hoi 1. I as an example never played till 1948, only once till '45 and for me the time limit is therefor no problem. But heck, I never tried to Tuvna Tuna into ruling the world.

cheers,
Brentor

Not really a big issue, but it would be good if the time period would be extended to 1950 or so. Its only two more years and it would allow meidcore players like me to fight large USA vs SU type wars after defeating the main enemy (Germany in this case).

Aanel,

Johan has already stated that there will not be any extension of the time period for HOI2.

I don't think turning dissent off is a good thing but maybe it should be decreased when you become a dictatorhip now many times when i turned paternal autocrat and dowed someone i would get 40% dissent which is quite a lot it should be more around 15-20% in my opinion

Agreed. By doing that you toss any sense of realism out the window at the tenth floor.

Well you're not meant to do that. If you want to switch about like that it's fine, but it's not really a supported feature.

If you don't like the time limit then there will most certainly be a mod out to remove it. But if Paradox should have included it they would also have to add meaning to continue further - with more techs and such.
