Watching the streamers has convinced one of my friends to pre-order the game. Hes an old time fan of the older gamers but wasn't sure this would be any good. The streamers convinced him in one day. lol

YouTuber here [...] I enjoy the game, but I feel like some of the expectations I've seen/read are straight up impossible to meet (I'm not even sure if more coverage from someone who isn't a long time Battletech veteran would be welcome at all - regardless of how much effort he'd put into learning all the mechanics beforehand).

Honestly, most of the crowd on this particular forum isn't the audience for streamers and YouTubers anyway. Many are only watching because they can't play the game yet, and will likely stop as soon as it's released.YouTuber here who backed Battletech on Kickstarter. I'm also yet another person who doesn't know much about Battletech tabletop (or anything really), and my interest in Battletech is almost exclusively due to the fact I love tactical games (well over a thousand hours in XCOM 1 / XCOM 2). I've been lurking around this forum a lot in the past week or two, and I've done a lot of research about Battletech mechanics (before even considering making any videos or streaming it), but... quite frankly, I'm almost scared to cover it at this point. I'm a turn based strat fan and new to the Battletech universe. Streams are highly educating as I learn together with the streamer with respect to the game mechanics and the consequence of mech loadout and pilot skills combination.
Honestly, a great game which I would love to support all the way, but SOME people in the community are real die hard fans who think only THEY should play the game in a manner THEY see fit and proper, then tend to criticize newbies/streamers as if they are a bunch of idiots. Just too toxic and highly discouraging. If you dont like how they play it make your own video tutorial or better yet wait for the release and play the game as you want it silently, while others like us watch streams to know the consequence of each decision with the streamer and be able to play it well enough for during release.

There's a real satisfaction in watching somebody pick up a beloved hobby of yours and start fumbling through the early stages, enthusiastic about learning more. Those lightbulb moments when everything clicks and you suddenly realize what you've been doing wrong, and those times when you set up a series of maneuvers that plays out exactly according to plan - that's a lot of the fun in a game as complex as this. Eventually you learn enough that they stop coming along, so you look to newcomers to enjoy the pure awesomeness of those "eureka!" moments again.I don't know if there's an specific reason why, but I've been finding the streamers newer to Battletech more entertaining to watch than the ones who are familiar with the game.
