Devs, can we get a streamer who knows BT mechanics?

While I don't mind streamers with big followings like Cohh getting first crack at it since this is business after all, the usefulness of some of the new batch of streamers/tubers is definitely questionable. For example, a tuber by the name of
JET R
has only 560 youtube subs and few of his <150 vids broke 100 views.

That doesn't make sense to me.

I work in the marketing industry and I've always heavily advocated game devs use streamers/tubers to promote their wares but in this case, the good streamers are being buried under an avalanche of mediocrity and relevance. Those new twitchers struggle to break 50 views! I had to dig hard to find the worth while content now. I think the bar is set a little too low Paradox.

Seriously yikes guys.
I know we're all anxious to get the game in our hands and have variety of options about streamers but some folks need to chill a little bit.

I have strong opinions about streamers too, I like some, dislike others but it's pretty terrible go naming and calling people out and filling their chats with all kinds of negative commentary.
I mean some of those streamers read these forums too.
Let people learn and play the way they do, if you don't like it, you don't need to watch it. It's that easy. A lot of them, big or small, have their own dedicated audiences and they enjoy the content because they like the streamer and that's how the game gets coverage.

Screw gatekeeping, welcome as many new people to the franchise as possible, because that's the way these games succeed.

I would agree @Foks.

Cohh alone accounted for a huge preorder surge at GOG and I'm sure the others have as well.
Yeah... watching them struggle through the fundamentals has made me end streams at times in disgust... but the fact the game is taking off so much before release is only good for the BattleTech universe and HBS and "In Success".

So yay for Paradox on their marketing strategy!

I say get as much new blood as possible. I've been under the impression that battletech universe as a whole has been kinda stagnant fan wise and not really growing. MWO may have brought some new blood in but since it caters more to FPS players most of that new blood probably has no interest in the rest of battletech. Not even the history and lore.

That is kinda what happens to very old IPs. Even D&D shares a similar fate, despite their size and numerous attempts to "refresh" their offering. Times are changing and there are always never, shiny things to pick up

Actually, Battletech is gearing up to release a new version of the starter box (lance on lance combat with miniatures included) and will finally be moving the storyline forward. So actually I'd say the boardgame is doing just fine. After all, you don't make a new starter box with miniatures included (thats expensive) if sells are low.

Right. I'm just saying a streamer who knows a lot of the lore and general mechanics might not get new people interested in the universe. Truthfully I think that would end making new people not want to get into the universe because I know people who know way more then I do about the universe (and specifically the tabletop) and they can get overbearing when talking about it and all "it has to be this way".

I mean (not counting MWO) it has been at least 14 years since the last digital BT universe game came out (MC 2 in 2001 and MW 4 mercs in 2002). Unless there have been others. And there is nothing in MWO that would make me (If I was new to the universe) look up other stuff. Not even on sarna.

Surprisingly good synergy with releasing the PC game ;)

The thing is about all the streamers: if you haven't played the Beta, or have TT experience, you aren't going to understand the value of facing your strong side toward the enemy, sharing armor, focus fire, and all the little tricks to make the game easier. Let's be honest: BT has a curve that can be...unkind to new players.

I think the streamers are probably learning at the same rate we all did, way back when we started. It just seems slow to us now because we know the mechanics so well.
I keep hearing people rave about their favorite streamer, then when I watch them it's painful. The only people who were well qualified to play out of the gate were beta testers.
Everyone else will take a week or two to get competent.

Speaking of cringworthy... Just watched a guy keep his spider standing still in a forest and when it got turned into Swiss cheese he complained he didn't like light 'Mechs because they died too easy.

Don't blame the 'Mech for your incompetence in handling them, dude! Float like a butterfly!

2004 was 14 years ago.

I was an English major, so someone please check my math, but I believe 14 is less than 20.

One of the sharpest gamers in the biz started a playthru. He goes by xwynns on youtube.

His latest mission was amazingly fun to watch. Still in the learning curve (so I'm not recommending him to those pained by such), but a really fun mission that was absurdly hard for a 1-skull mission. :) It was also really awesome to hear how much fun he was having with it, especially as he was getting beaten bloody by the OpFor. Made me want to play the game even more, and that's a tall order right now.

I saw that. I had to stop watching him at that point because it made me so unreasonably angry.

Yeah, the Op needs to chill. I've played BT for 33 years and can easily spot things you should not do when I watched streamers. So guess what, I stopped watching. I'm very happy they are generating excitement for this game and (hopefully) bringing new blood into this universe. I doubt many of us did well in our first battletech game. Besides I am sure people will be posting "expert" play after Tuesday. Sure we are all excited and want to get this game into our hands, but waiting a few more days won't kill us and if the result is HBS does well and there are more campaigns and extra DLC, then we all will win.

To those who need something to pass the time, re-read the novels, play TT, work with smurfy and/or Li Song and set up your lance choices, re-read a TRO, explore sarna, whatever - there is so much more to Battletech. Tuesday will come soon enough and this forum will soon become a ghost town....
