trait based. It's not the most effective, and we're pretty sure the AI won't handle it perfectly, but we don't feel the other approaches would fit.

I'm guessing you'll have maintenance or on_action events to block interspecies couples from successfully having children, then? Possibly with a decision to let rulers married to another species take a mistress/lover/whatever of their own species, to make sure they can still have children?

Edit:
Also, as a side note, have you read the The Journal of the Two Sisters book? It has a bunch of info on the time period you are placing the mod in, more or less. (More information about the ponies depicted in the Hearth's Warming Eve pageant, for one thing. Princess Platinum's father was apparently named King Bullion.)

Those events are my next goal as soon as I've dealt with this dysfunctional province. Either that or Cziken will work on it once he's done with the decision mentioned on the last page.

I have it, but I realized it was very... childish. Unlike the comics, it was exactly meant for little children, and nothing more. While we can take basic things like names, using the book as a source would be bad. As the book tells it, there was no faction wars, no claimants, no sort of unrest whatsoever and they were these magical queens that had no problems except each other.

Note: I'm not hating on you or that you brought it up. I'm just dredging up my disappointment that the potential lore opportunity was so wasted.

. (Applejack's cows are NEVER seen in town, for example, despite being sapient beings.)

Not entirely true, but I'm also not a modder and I understand why having useless cow courters show up would be a strain. I would make a case for donkeys, though, because they're apparently native to Equestria and there's about as many named donkeys in the show as named griffons. Also, mule bastards would be hilarious.

I think it is somewhat understandable, at least on the no faction wars front. The journal, from what I recall, covers the time right after Hearth's Warming, so everypony alive can recall how they were almost all wiped out, because they couldn't stop the factional infighting. On top of that, I can see them recognizing that the old wounds are still too close to the surface for any one type of pony to be accepted as rulers for the others, and if they split up again, that would run the risk of the Windegoes eventually returning. The existence of the alicorns solved that problem, as they weren't actually part of all the prior infighting. That they look like a combination of the three main types of ponies is just a bonus. When there's a choice of "fight amongst yourselves and freeze to death, or play nice and live", I doubt too many ponies were eager to try to press any claims.

That said, I will agree with you on some of the other bits of silliness, like the way the potential war with the Griffons was stopped. Then again, griffons probably aren't natural farmers, so the point of the invasion might have been to capture the Earth Ponies to farm for them. And then Luna set up a [strike]tribute[/strike] trade deal where the ponies would provide luxury baked goods and the like, removing the need for the war.

Back on the subject of genetics, may I ask how are you doing the pony subraces? (Specifically, how the game decides what type of pony is born.)

I would argue that people in general are quick to turn on each other once the threat is dealt with. A good example? US-USSR relations after WWII. Within months they were already aiming at each other. I would also point out that only the leaders were there when they blasted away the cold, and so only they are truly hearthwarmers. Ergo, "Why should we make these two "alicorns" our leaders when PP, CP, and CH were the ones to drive away the windigoes!"

Currently whoever the dominant person in the marriage is passes down their trait. We plan to use a percentage based event though later on.

I'd reply that the other time they were seen in town is when they were charging and about to level the place, only stopping when a pony came through and stopped them...

I'd reply that stampeding is also a thing the buffalo do, apparently, and they're pretty intelligent. But this show also has sheep that live in pens and goats that set up stage equipment, and sheep talk and goats don't, apparently, so that's just a another bucket of worms. :p

I think it is more that the goats just didn't speak Equestrian. Iron Will could apparently understand and communicate with them.

And I'd respond that they all knew that if they started fighting again, the Windegoes would be back. It might have taken a few times for some of them to get the idea, though. Old habits are hard to change. (Also, the raw power the alicorns exhibited in being able to move the sun and moon by themselves probably helped.) Obviously, this mod takes place in an AU where that isn't the case, and after they've fought a few times without the Windegoes coming back it would be easy to conclude that there isn't a risk. There could still be the idea of uniting the tribes, but it could easily drift to "unite them under my hoof".

That's fair and makes sense, but there's also that goat at Fluttershy's place. Then again, there's also some pretty chill deer hanging out there. Is Fluttershy secretly a powerful landlord? Probably not. That said, there's more in favor for cows and such to be independent creatures here, because while the comics did have elf-deer, they also had cow bandits that wore clothing and such.

And Mutually Assured Destruction was also a huge likelihood of fighting between the U.S. and the Russians. Yet in the sixties we came perilously close, didn't we? (Cuban Missile Crisis) Beyond that, the Windigos, creatures of ice, were encapsulated in magical fire of friendship. This could be mere banishment or that they were literally killed, at which point they wouldn't exist to return and plague ponykind if war was rekindled. I would also point out that Windigos cannot exist as a universal force, since otherwise ponykind would've been killed in it's infancy. The distrust and hatred between them was around before the windigos. Which means that they are like a sickness that once cured is gone until a new form shows up.

P.S. my apologies if any of the above is nonsensical. I just got home from work and am tired.

I'm of the opinion they were just driven away/banished, given that the ponies still create the heartfire (hearthsfire?) after the pagent, and that when the mane 6 started arguing afterward there was the sound of the Windego's cry. Given how these sorts of things seem to work in Equestria, I'd be willing to bet that there's a seal on them, that will be broken if ponies descend into arguing on the coldest night of the year, the anniversary of the night they were banished.

Also, given that the main leaders of the three tribes and their seconds all had the message of "friendship or death" rather drastically demonstrated to them, I'd bet that they at least would do their utmost to make sure everypony else gets with the program. Any subordinate leaders who don't? They aren't going to make it into the history books, one way or the other. (Beyond something insulting like"Unable to cope with the changing times, Lord [insert name here] was one of several to attempt to raise his flag in rebellion.")

For the mod, perhaps the three leaders didn't survive the night, and most of their vassal leaders broke away instead of being willing to follow the seconds' sudden idea of a united Equestria, where all three types of ponies would be equal?

Hm.. We're trying to base these things on inferred connections. Octavia, though prim and proper, seems to be lower nobility at best, which would be represented by a courtier, I suppose. Lyra Heartstring.. A random villager in the middle of a country town. I'm not sure what the connection would be. Trixie is perhaps the best match, but she'd likely have to be explained as a bastard, considering the gypsy life isn't appropriate of nobility.

The other factor that has to be considered is that this is 1000+ years before the show. So they not only have to be nobility, but some really effing OLD nobility.

given the timespan y'all're talking about, it seems entirely plausible that there was a powerful Heartstrings family in the timeframe of the mod that has faded away into irrelevancy by the "present"

Well, so long as it isn't pining for the fjords.
I'd like to give an apology real quick, actually. We've stagnating because Google closed their code hosting service. It's been my job to get it in order and moved to github, but I've been distracted. This is the first the team would be hearing of this, but I was fired on Saturday. I've been fighting and trying to appeal that, and have been ignoring the project. While I'm sorry for this, we're still working on it. Once the repository is moved and I finish adjusting some starting realms, I will release a copy of what we have. It's flavor light and a lot of things don't work as they should, but I realize my perfectionist attitude isn't helping the mod when I can't dedicate the required time to get it to such a state and keep up to date with patches.

Oy, that sucks. Best of luck with your appeals.

Oy, that sucks. Best of luck with your appeals.
Sadly, appeals have been denied. The reason they gave is thus: "We may not find what you said offensive, but the customer did, and that's what matters." Considering literally no one I have told the events to has found it offensive, I'm inclined to believe that the customer was simply looking for a free meal. Anyways, that's not the reason for this thread. Any questions about the mod, maybe? (Still having problems with git. -_-)
