Would I be correct in assuming you'll also have "Descended From X" traits, so races can skip generations?

I think we've tossed around several ideas on how to handle this, none of which would require an additional trait taking up space. I'll see if I can get this sorted out so we can decide what works best and maybe do some testing.

Another issue that's come up: as UIs are virtually 0% moddable at present, I'm having to use vanilla names for religion groups in the code (made poni in localization, of course) so that everyone isn't the same generic Christian UI. As you might imagine, this makes religions I do this for DLC-dependant.

So, I'd like to know: how would people feel about two slight variations of the mod? Extra flavor if one has the proper DLC(s), and one where everyone gets the same look but only requires the base game.

Better yet, I'm actually more concerned if DLC requirements are even much of a concern among most of you following this mod. Thus far we've chosen to err on the side of caution and keep things vanilla-friendly, but some features go a bit beyond 'flavor' and can be a bit immersion-breaking to some people... like Earth being an elective monarchy rather than a proper republic, so as not to limit people without that DLC from playing one of the mod's three core nations.

I will, however, make one thing clear: even if we were to make two slight variations of the mod for the time being, this would likely be limited to the UI differences mentioned at the beginning of my rant here. Including further features (such as actually making Earth a republic) in the +UI version would only further serve to make the non-DLC crowd feel left out (and, I'd imagine, a bit miffed at that point), which we are not in favor of. Aesthetic differences only here.

But enough from me. Let's see y'all liven up this thread again and give me your two cents.

Well, if you made a "Child of X" trait, you could have it work like the religious sympathy traits, so, for example, a pegasus with a unicorn parent might get along better with unicorns than a 'purebred' pegasus. And you could also have an event or decision to renounce your non-dominant heritage, which could give an opinion boost among subjects of your phenotype, and ponies intolerant of the denounced type. More flavor is better, right?

As for the UI thing, I've own all the DLCs (except the ones released today), so I'm probably not the best to ask about that. Plus, everyone I know who has the game has all the mechanical DLCs, though not all the graphical ones.

So how is that pre alpha looking? Looks like you weren't able to get it done by last month as someone said you were aiming for.

As for the DLC thing, I own all of them, but making a vanilla friendly version first sounds like the best plan. If you want then you can get fancy later on.

It does seem that some of the DLC's do provide better mechanics for certain cultures/nations than vanilla, especially the culture specific troops. I understand the need to mollify those who haven't/can't purchase the DLC but it seems off to not use more fitting mechanics that are available.

I'd much prefer to make use of DLC mechanics where they are available. Making things vanilla only would make development more complicated, since everything would have to be considered from multiple standpoints; a vanilla one and a full-DLC one. With the many, many unique mechanics that the DLC offers, ignoring it seems like a bad move.

Get this thread off the forum
why? I watch this thread with great interest.
They seem to be progressing steadily towards a release as well.

On the recent commentating... If everything thus far has been developed vanilla friendly, I'd say keep it vanilla friendly, at least until a first release. Personally, I'd prefer to include all the DLC, but since Paradox seems to be releasing DLC rapidly, I'd understand a vanilla focused approach, and it makes more practical sense.

So long as the mod comes out, I've got no problem with playing vanilla only. also can we have a update of sorts to keep the hungering hordes in check? please:(
Yeah, you guys have waited long enough... we're going to try and sort out two major bugs and, if possible, some confusion we've had over some griffon starting positions, then let you guys play around with what little we've got at this point.

Just... don't get yourselves TOO excited for this first one.

What sort of non-canon religions (I know there aren't any specified in the show, but you know what I mean) are there eventually planned at some point? Are there going to be various "pagan" deities and necromancer/demon/snake cults?

Also, are you still open for more flavor characters/events? I've been thinking of a few.

Well if Celestianism/Lunarism are the only 'canon' religions then yes, we have a lot added. I think each race gets their own religion. The 3 pony races get their own pagan religion at the start. Discordian is also a religion
