Pretty much, yes. I think that the standard division from HoI2 would be made up of 3 maneuver elements such as infantry and one artillery element. Pretty much all divisions had this setup, with some exceptions of course.

Johan, could u share a little more please. I understand we can rename Divisions, but now since a division consists od more or less individual brigades could it be possible to name brigades somewhere? Some of the brigades were very elite or famous and so for the gameplay reasons this would be a nice cherry on the top for all the fans.

Very cool idea, I hope it is at least moddable, but it also would depend on whether the 'brigade' is considered a regiment, battalion, combat team, etc. This could get very confusing and contentious.

I think Johan stated that the Command system has been reworked. Not sure what it is, but I dont think it will be as restricting as it has been. Simple reason being what you outline above. I'm thinking each rank can command a certain value of units, this value being a cumulation of subordinate elements (read brigades). But who knows...

For me, I'd like to see a system of virtual command structure where commanders did not need to be physically in place to be in the chain of command. Higher level HQ's where not always on the front. Corps, Army and AG HQ's rarely set up operations very close to the front and so those commanders shouldnt need to personally 'lead' a battle. Commander's abilities would trickle down throughout their command. A system allowing you to set up Armies and Corps, while possibly complex, would make me a very happy consumer.

I think the strength number is rather accurate, as it would represent the 'combat strength' in fighting men of that division. Remember that about 1/2 of the personel of a regiment+ unit is support personal, not combat troops. Just a guess, since none of these numbers matter per pdox's confirmation.

We still need confirmation if brigades will be able to be moved around between divisions. If not, there is no reason for brigades to have any independent stats once the division is build...including name. :(

I would say yes, 1 infantry division in HOI2 would be about equal to a 3 or 4 infantry brigade division in HOI3 all things being equal, but all things wont be equal in the new system... ;)

Very exciting stuff. I'm a bit worried about the combat model- it looks like nothing's changed from HoI2, and Kanitatlan's dissertations long ago convinced me that something needed to change there. Overall, this is just what I've been waiting for.

Like most, I'm hoping for the option to reorganize divisions, assign names to brigades, and all the other bells and whistles. I can't wait to see how it all turns out in the finished product.

I dont see why we shouldnt be able to, but it would be nice to get an answer.

I would also be nice if the then built divisions were automatically named after the named templates. "1st Armoured Assualt Division", "2nd Armoured etc etc...",

Looks interesting, just hope the AI will be able to handle it.
I can understand if we can't move brigades between different divisions but since having 5 brigades in one division was from a doctrine (I suppose researched and noone has from the start) with 4 being the max otherwise if would feel strange if we can't "upgrade" an old 4 brig division to the larger 5 brig one.

I have a feeling that quite few divisions will ever be the super large ones anyway but going from 4 to 5 since it is a discovered tech (I'm assuming) should be possible even if we can't go the other way around.

edit:
Also something which could be an issue.
SP arty was in some cases introduced to replace normal arty in the same type of formation.
Example an armoured division:
3xArmour brig
1xarty brig

But when sp gets available I would of course prefer this in my division:
3x armour brig
1xsp arty

Will we be able to make something like that happen or would we have to wait until we have the "right" tech to construct the unit we "need"?
