True. Although one reason of starting the war in 1914 was that Russia was planning to build railwayheads (with French money) much further west in the coming years, which would decrease their mobilisation time tables significantly.

I believe he meant the Soviet Union managed to industrialized in spite of Stalin and the Commissars.

You cannot claim revision when the facts clearly illustrate that Russia was hastily industrializing since the 1880's and had climbed to the sixth strongest GDP.
Why do you think the Germans were so keen on taking out the Russians first? Because they knew Russia was getting stronger each year.

War Communism and the Russian Civil War had effectively pillaged the Russian state, to an extent that backward outnumbered Agrarian Poles were able to fight the Russians toe to toe.

Industrialization in the Soviet Union was dependent on American Machinery and this was true even into 1930's, as evident with the Dieper Dam whose Hydroelectric generator came from the United States .

Then there was the case of the Soviet Union needing grain imports from North America and Europe for decades... Granted, I know not everywhere on the steppes is suited for agriculture, but seriously, you have more arable farmland than Canada does and Canada was sending you food?!?

Solzhenitsyn is right that the Soviet Union was characterized with Criminal Negligence, Stalin having ruled like a Tsar and Beria raping and murdering women in darkened dungeons.

The Russians managed to win the WWII, not because they were Soviet or Communist, you can see how well ''Communism Sprit" fared in Operation Barbarossa. Where was Comrade Stalin? Hiding in a closet and couldn't come to terms with the fact that his friend ''Hitler'' had invaded his country.
The war only managed to be won because Slavic-Nationalism prevailed through the Great Patrioic War

I refer you to post #203.

I really like the Artisan concept and agree with the implementation as described here. However, I would like to see artisan efficiency being possible to increase/decrease. Possible as in open for mods to use, not as in put it in the vanilla game.

I actually do hope the Fascists implement pro-Artisan policies (protectionalism, "happy fun" capitalist genocide). Because it would be a shame if the Artisans support a government that only make their lives worse.

I think a good representation of history would be making artisan products fill the same needs as industrial products, only more expensive. That would represent how the industrial revolution impoverished certain classes on one hand and allowed more people to consume those products on the other.

EDIT: Now that I'm thinking about it, this might already be represented by declining prices due to the kicking in of industrial production.

Wow, so POPs can evolve into Aristocrats? That is different idea... can see where maybe some governments and ideologies would play a role there, or even unifications and revolutions.

That is great news that 100% education slider is not always the only mandatory slider and different circumstances might actually lower its effects or importance to be at 100%

If you look at people's descriptions of Artisans in this thread, there are several ddescriptions of who they were. They are all right, POPs tend to represent broad groups of people. Artistocrats are just the same, they don't just represent european style artisocrats, in a place like America they will represent old money amnd inherited wealth.

I refer you to post #203.

I refer him back to school as he apparently has no idea what is talking about.

King, I have one question: how are you going to prevent artisans from all producing the same thing (as it is the most profitable)?

For instance, all the artisans in the country produce luxury furniture as it is the most profitable product. Then, at the end of month ALL of them change production profile to liquor...etc...etc...

Also, if efficency of artisans is not technology dependand, it would mean all artisans in entire world are considering the same product profitable in the same time.

Is this kind of thing are going to be prevented somehow? For instance, by hardcoded diversity (eg. not more then x% of artisans produce certain product).

Basically we worked out the odds and figured it was so low that we decided it was worth the risk.

Well then I refer you to review something more then school or casual history books and discovery channel.
I confirm what MTJ said and invite you to visit Russia, to assure yourself in those facts. Not that much in school books ofcourse but in facts, like american equipment that wasn't changed for almost century on a hydrodam

("Dneproges" hydrodam in Ukraine. It was also a part of USSR if somebody doesn't know that)

Will we be able to mod the Artisan to restrict it to producing only certain goods?

That is very interesting, even from a non gaming point of view. How do you work out a thing like that? Is there a mathematical analysis of your equations to see if they are inherently stable?

No you just add up the number of artisan POPs.

Heh. Maybe that makes sense to you. I still don't get it. :)

Basically if you look at the number of artisans then work out the number of good types that each artisan could produce, then assume work out the odds. of that each one selects the same one. It doesn't take too many artisan POPs before the odds of each one selecting the same one goes sky high. Now as the game goes we expect the number of artisan POPs to reduce counter balanced by the inrease in the number of goods, keeping the odds high enough for our liking.
