I would totally love the option to "show railroads" on the terrain map rather than having to switch to a whole different map. Same with cities, really.

The more detailed the main map is the better!

simply Amazing Paradox... My hat is off to you once again... However, will this game have huge Spec. requirements like HOI3... I can barely run HOI3 on my computer.

That's a gorgeous map alright, and there might even be less yelling about province boundaries and names. Of course yelling is a zero sum game, and the slack will be picked up by the limitations of Clio. So in the interest of giving the beloved Paradox team a heads up, I name them here:

Clio had to work with a strict province limit, and you don't. People are not going to be happy with the changes (or lack thereof) that you make with this fact in mind.
Clio chose province names to facilitate the search function - no diacriticals, no double ups. They were also chosen to reflect the political situation of the time, not today. This will inevitably raise the ire of certain... patriotic... members in certain hot spots around the globe, or those unfamiliar with history.
Clio has yet to address terrain, vegetation and resources. There will be howls of protest should these be "wrong"; I do not even want to contemplate the merger of the first two.

Now don't get me wrong - the map is visually stunning and it was a genius move to tap the Clio team's shoulder (congrats to them), you've just dealt with a major source of complaints. A lot of the complaints that you'll still get will be from the inevitable whiners who wanted a green straw with their smoothie, not a blue one. But your job's not over yet, as you know better than we do. I'll be interested to see what more you'll have to offer.

Wizard Beautiful map. Looks Great.

Would it be possible if near the end of the making of the game if you could make a subforum for the map or maybe just a post for each region where a province and state/region map for each continent where forum users could go over their region and quibble over the names of the provinces to make sure everything is right as its impossible for anyone to get the whole world right and if it could be gotten out of the way before the release everything could be perfect in the game and would avoid all those complaints that have closely followed the release of all your other games.

Artr, read this AAR. This crew started in CK and are now in Armageddon to finish. King of men has the links to the other installments.

I did one long, long ago, it starts on this page and will have links to the next chapters in later posts. It eventually went into space:

:eek:o

But the converters aren't really P'dox's issue, we can make those, at least. Let them worry about the game part of the game. The reason CK had a converter was that it was based off of the EU II map, in fact if you look at the province shapes they are almost exact.

The CLIO team should be proud, their project was beautiful and this is the only logical step for it to be official. I am glad to see that P'Dox is more than willing to embrace their fan's creation and dedication.

wow, i mean...wow, looks great, i agree with the joy feeling and looks about victoria...there are dark times in the victorian era, but after that happiness came always (not like the second war).

but there's something i don't like: the army graphic is just one soldier! come on! victoria 1 had lot of soldiers in that sprite, it represents the mass mobilizations of the time and the big difference between the victorian era and the past!

There was an infrastructure map in Victoria 1, so I don't see why not. I just hope that railways will be more aesthetically pleasing this time, intead of straight lines between province centers. It would be dastardly cool if Paradox could have a "show railroads" option on the map (much like castles/shiels in CK), which would show railroad as small graphics snaking their way across provinces, perhaps following the same paths that armies use.

EDIT: Just to make things clear; I am not suggesting anything overly fancy, just some tracks going in something more resembling a railroad line and less resembling a straight black line between provinces, much like the on-map buildings of EUIII.

To illustrate (imagine that the orange lines are railway tracks in 3D). The railways in Oslo is the equavilent of a "dot" (no adjacent provinces with railways) in VIC1:

Or just think of it in terms of filters.

Basic view would be either terrain map, or simplified terrain map (political) with national color instead of detailed texture.

On that, you would be able to turn on/off viewing of:

- economics info (resources + factories),
- infrastructure (rails + harbors + forts),
- social info (revoltrisk + crime effects),
- political info (dominant party in the province + dominant issue in the province).

One of the main issues with beatiful terrain maps in all previous Paradox titles (Vicky 1 had very, very nice terrain maps as well, remember?) was that they were not functional, so players ended in using other map modes anyway. Adding filter layers put ON the terrain map (or simplified terrain/political map, sort of like in EU:Rome) would go a long way to deal with that.

Wow this is totally awesome!!!

I was sceptic about the graphics of Vic2 (the barbie doll soldiers mostly) but this looks really great. I love the looks of this map. Colorful and nice, just like it should be for a terrain view mode!

Now if only the trooper can be made to carry his rifle over the shoulder like a proper 19th century tin soldier... and learn to march with his buddies in lines... ;)
