Hm, small screen of nothing. Can't you give more screens of MAP with different views (political, etc) with different visual angles (different levels of zoom :)). Now you just gave us a viewpoint of microscope! :(

You know if you click on the tiny picture it will expand?

Clio has the same number of provinces for Germany as in Vicky 1, plus one for Heligoland. It is most definitely NOT less, I can assure you. When Xie and I made the map, we decided to leave the number of provinces in Western Europe as is or add a couple, but never subtract.

And as King said, modders can add more provinces post commercial release if they want further refinement. This is something that I might consider as a mod once Vicky 2 is released. Xie and I drew Clio based on having a fixed limit of provinces, so some areas where we would have liked to have more provinces simply could not be done. With the base Clio map now part of Vicky 2, and with our work on Clio's Iron Heart, a bit more of a detailed map post commercial release is indeed possible as a mod for us to develop, though probably not as many provinces as we are planning for Iron Heart map.
Thanks for clearing that out OHgamer. I wasn't sure whether it really was less, but at least it seemed to me that way. Good to hear that it hasn't at least been reduced, though like you said the number of provinces could be increased thanks to the more superior engine. Either way, if you ever want to refine your map once Victoria 2 is out than I'm always happy to help.

Very good looking map indeed, the best by paradox so far!! I'm curious to see what cities will look like. I like the idea of seeing growing urban area and railroads on the map as they'll developp. That would be so cool!!

I've decided that OHgamer has a thyroid condition like my mother. She is always DOING stuff. She doesn't know how to relax.

Me? I can watch others work all day long. Doesn't wear me out a bit.

Still, congratulations to OHgamer and XieChengnuo. Their hard work is appreciated, and well done.

I really like the use of CLIO. Paradox using the community.

I was thinking on something in regards to the number of provinces. Less of them compared to HoI3 is a good move if you ask me, because of King's aforementioned reasons, but I wonder if this will be helping the performance of the game too? Less provinces is less work for the computer, right? If so:

Very cool idea, using Clio (it might even deflect a tiny bit of the "the map is awful, the province borders are all wrong" whining). And the textures are looking nice.

A question, though: what are the specks of vegetation in the middle of provinces? For instance, Boras is pretty much covered in the "fields" texture, but it has some blotches of trees in the middle, and the hilly provinces in Norway all have clumps of trees here and there. Will Victoria 2 have the same terrain setup of Victoria, with two independent "terrain" types per province (one with the actual "ruggedness" of the province, meaning plains, hills, mountains, and another with the level of vegetation cover)?

It looks nice but I would prefer if it was a little different from Clio as that mod had a clear province limit to contend with and as I recall they took provinces away in some places (Alaska for example) and I feel that in those cases it would be better to be more like in the original map since the number of provinces will not be as important now.

looking good. But can you give me a screenshot of the fjords in western Norway? I think they are the worst part of the map to make. So if they look nice, so do the rest do the map. (The fjords was very bad in HoI3...)

Edit:
On the screenshot the Oslofjord dos not go all the way in to Oslo. But he inner part is there, separated from the outer part by a... Swamp?

keep in mind, Clio was hard limited at 2862 provinces because of the hard limit on the V1 engine. King has said in an earlier comment that there are 3200+ provinces at this point for V2, so there must be some extra provinces added in as well. So areas that we may have stripped in original Clio (Siberia, Alaska, the Sahara, and Oceans) most likely will be getting more provinces again if the developers feel the provinces we made were too big (which may be an issue, I know that mapmakers in EU3 found that if a province they wanted to add was too big it would cause problems).

Nice map. and I'm glad that Paradox is using the Clio map.

One question to OHgamer.

IIRC you did form a group for making a new Vicky based on the Vicky source code.

Did you end that project and are you and your team now working together with Paradox with Vicky2?

Gosh. I don't know. With the recent decision to go with professional beta testers, don't you think a professional map-maker would be a better choice instead of using a couple of free map makers? :D;););):p:D

That is good to hear! Thank you for clearing that up, I was not entirely sure how many provinces Victoria originally had.

Looking great, and a clever move to borrow CLIO. Good economics, and good PR with the community, all in one - plus, we get a better map.

I think the province borders look slightly too thin and "sharp" though. The state borders look great though, and the textures are just yummy. I hope you'll try to get in some of the dynamic graphic effects people are asking for. It really would fit the era and go along with your philosophy of having the map reflect the era; when, if not in the 19th century, did infrastructure and technology change the landscape?

Actually, for those saying that they think this era should be darker, why not let that be a graphic transition. From green pastures to dark railroad scars and smoking chimney stacks. Or, just add the railroads and factories and such without making it dark, it would still be way cool.
