Finally after a successful clean install 2.3 is working again. As soon as i update to the beta patch though same thing. Launcher seems to be opening then immediately shuts down, then stellaris.exe is deleted because subsequent launches say stellaris.exe is missing. makes no sense. Checked anti-virus but it hasn't quarantined any files. No idea why the stellaris.exe keeps getting removed. Trying to update or reinstall just gets hung with no progress.
So, as a guy who was playing the game just fine yesterday, today I can't play, and i'm assuming its because of the hotfix patch.
Steam is telling me it can't find stellaris.exe. My antivirus is off. Steam seems to get stuck validating the files. I've opted out of the beta. No go, opted into the beta, no go. Rebooted steam, my PC, and did a whole uninstall/reinstall to no effect.

Anyone got any ideas?

Update: Uninstall/reinstall in safemode seems to have worked. No idea whats up with that. But It's working again. First time i've had a paradox game break like that. Still not as bad as EVE online accidentally deleting boot.ini from the C drive one time....

Looks like some antivirus like AVG are marking (incorrectly) the .exe of the beta as a virus, and in some cases deleting it (because, "it's a virus"). You can add the stellaris folder as an exception on your AV and it should work, unless you really think that is a virus ofc

Synthetic Ascension hasn't worked properly since MegaCorp was released. It is frustrating, to say the least, that a feature I paid money for hasn't worked in half a year. I just don't understand. Building all other robotic species works fine, so why can't building your main robot species work?

Two fixes I can think of that would probably head off some of these issues.

1) In species rights, we have the option to declare a species defunct. Criteria for biological pops might a be a bit hard to work out, but for robots, machines and synths, it's fairly easy. Pick this right means that the game will not build pops with the defunct designation. It's a good way to force the game over to using updated designs once one has them. Ideally, if we got something for bio pops, it would stop creating new pops of essentially outdated species after someone makes full use of the default researchable gene points or going full bio ascension, just because the player had a migration treaty and a pop with the original setup re-enters the empire (thus being a QoL change, since that would result in smaller species lists).

2) Another species right would be retrofit. If a robot, machine or synth is given this setting, the game will convert it the species main non-biological species. So if I synth ascend, I can go to default have this right be the default right for all non-bio pops that enter my empire. If I'm a machine empire or just a regular empire that builds bots, I can also select this so that I can reduce robotic clutter in my species list, which again huge quality of life change.

Look into: AutoBuilder upgrading buildings when we dont have resource and not even abillity to trade for it (Exotic gases and Judgment Hall)

Maybe every rare resource building should have some small rare resource build cost. So if we have no resource to support it will not be build?

I don't know if I can recreate it. But in an mp game I'm playing with a couple of small mods.
I'm getting resource requirements for colonisation and building star bases.
"Lacking 33.056 physics 23.68 society 54.5092 alloys"
But before when I tried to build a star base and had sufficient alloys, everything was fine. I'm expecting it to be also fine to colonise when I've got alloys again.

So, I just had something rather unfortunate happen in an ironman game. I received The Grand Herald from a dig, but later when I was upgrading ships, it decided to 'upgrade' it as well. And by that I mean it downgraded every component to Lv. 1. This kinda messed up my war game plan to take out those murderous geckos :<

I posted the same issue here at the 3rd page. It is very annoying. The Titan at least keeps the aura, but I got a Cruiser and it lost T2 pasma guns and T4 Lasers, Shields and Armor and all the utility slots which turned it into overall a pretty crappy ship.

I wasn't sure if it wasn't just some one time bug because nobody reacted to it but now I can see it is a general issue.

This is really annoying and degrades the yelds of events by a lot.

You can at least avoid the issue by keeping the ship out of fleets you upgrade. Far worse with the everyone is everyones neighbour bug.

Can confirm the "being unable to build new synth-ascended primary species" - it might have something to do with them being listed as a subspecies of your main species? It certainly looked like I could genemod them back to being non-synths, which is extremely weird.

Edit: also, in a custom empire starting in the Sol system, I cannot terraform Mars. Conditions are: requisite tech researched, terraforming process started, habitat built before the terraforming started, running "terraforming gases" edict. I can start the terraforming process, but it refuses to tick over. Other terraforming without habitat present was successful in the past.

Well, ship builder needs a bit of work done, my beef is with the Destroyer component parts such as bow and stern, namely the interceptor stern doesn't make sense to me, I would rather have a single stern for my artillery ships that contains one point defence gun space and one small gun space to help fend off both missiles/fighters and small ships.

Has anyone encountered an issue where you can't abandon a colony even after you have resettled all pops away from it? I could still enact decisions on it and even move pops back onto it without recolonizing. Ticking over to the next month, reloading the save, and restarting the game completely all don't work. I had to use the console to give the ownership of the planet to the "observer," which surprisingly worked and didn't cause the game to crash.

Edit: I did some quick testing and realized that this happens 100% of the time on every planet I abandon, whether or not I conquered them from elsewhere. Can anyone confirm if this is happening in their game in 2.3.1? I know for a fact it wasn't happening in my game yesterday under 2.3.0.

Also happens when you invade a planet like for example as a Determined Exterminator or Devouring Swarm. I invaded the planets of some primitive species and somehow the planets ended up stuck like this and the game complaining about high instabillity and whatnot. It's annoying because I now have 4 of these ruined planets.

Hello, this is going to be my first post ont his forum because i really want you guys to fix somethings that went abit shitty in 2.3 annd ancient relics (even though i really love the story pack).

im gonna take all the points ive made in a review about the game (steam name is "iMainLacoste")

also, sry for my english i still hope u can understand what im trying to tell

1) i dont like to have the digging site on the galaxy map after i finished it because i think its a system with a gateway or a wromhole.

2) when one of your science ships discovered a digging site in the galaxy you get a pop-up notification, i dont like to have to click on the pop-up, then on the arrow on the top right of the corner of the little window and then getting "teleportet" into the system where the site is, i think it would be better if the pop-up window could tell you in which system the digging site is.

3) the third is something i just feel like its wrong or atleast looks wrong...
i dont like that the window for the plantes are now in the middle of the screen, i really prefer it to be on the top left corner of the screen as it was the default since 2.2

4) i dont like it that i cant the see progress bar for my governors when im on my planet screen, you should change that, but i think it was good idea to move the picture of the governor like you did, just add the progress bar back in

5) for some reasons, if you complete the "first league precursor" line, you will get an "relic world" instend of the ecumenopolis

6) ok the sixth is something thats really irritating me, so lets say you have digged some excavations sites and the sites tell you cool story about the people that lived near the site or what ever, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing about is that you will have those species in your species tab, that means that if you played for, like 45-60 mins and digged some sites you will have around 5-10 diffrent species that arent alive anymore in your species tab that you cannot blend out, to see the diffrent species that are from the AI (diffrent empires, fallen empires, curatos etc) you just can switch from the species that you have in our empire and the species that are in general all over the empire.

7) i think there should be another category for the excavations sites like for the anomalies, because after some time the situation log is going to be full with these sites.

8) also something minor. when u are building one starbase for example and before the starbase is build you can, logicly qeue up another starbase in another system to be build. usually the resoruced would be taken away for the starbase that you put up in queue. with the latest update its not anymore like that, its just a bit confusing when u already spent 75 influence for a starbase, then queueing up another but the ressources wont be taking away (ofc the ressources will be taken away if the starbase thats in the building queue is finished)


i hope that you (the devs) will fix some of these minor annoying problems.

also like i said in my review i really like the storypack and its definitely worth 10€
for a rating i would give a 7/10
it wouldve been a 10 without these bugs and annoying problems that came in with the patch

anyways keep up the work for the game paradox :)

2) when one of your science ships discovered a digging site in the galaxy you get a pop-up notification, i dont like to have to click on the pop-up, then on the arrow on the top right of the corner of the little window and then getting "teleportet" into the system where the site is, i think it would be better if the pop-up window could tell you in which system the digging site is.

3) the third is something i just feel like its wrong or atleast looks wrong...
i dont like that the window for the plantes are now in the middle of the screen, i really prefer it to be on the top left corner of the screen as it was the default since 2.2

4) i dont like it that i cant the see progress bar for my governors when im on my planet screen, you should change that, but i think it was good idea to move the picture of the governor like you did, just add the progress bar back in

5) for some reasons, if you complete the "first league precursor" line, you will get an "relic world" instend of the ecumenopolis

6) ok the sixth is something thats really irritating me, so lets say you have digged some excavations sites and the sites tell you cool story about the people that lived near the site or what ever, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing about is that you will have those species in your species tab, that means that if you played for, like 45-60 mins and digged some sites you will have around 5-10 diffrent species that arent alive anymore in your species tab that you cannot blend out, to see the diffrent species that are from the AI (diffrent empires, fallen empires, curatos etc) you just can switch from the species that you have in our empire and the species that are in general all over the empire.

7) i think there should be another category for the excavations sites like for the anomalies, because after some time the situation log is going to be full with these sites.

8) also something minor. when u are building one starbase for example and before the starbase is build you can, logicly qeue up another starbase in another system to be build. usually the resoruced would be taken away for the starbase that you put up in queue. with the latest update its not anymore like that, its just a bit confusing when u already spent 75 influence for a starbase, then queueing up another but the ressources wont be taking away (ofc the ressources will be taken away if the starbase thats in the building queue is finished)


i hope that you (the devs) will fix some of these minor annoying problems.

also like i said in my review i really like the storypack and its definitely worth 10€
for a rating i would give a 7/10
it wouldve been a 10 without these bugs and annoying problems that came in with the patch

anyways keep up the work for the game paradox :)

It's a well put together post, but think about putting them in Bug Reports and Suggestions as well (whichever is most relevant for the specific item in the list). You're pretty much rolling the dice putting it here.

I don't remember that from patchnotes too, personally. Not everything highlighted in dev diaries makes it there, so it's easy to miss some info if you're not following diaries constantly.
