According to @podcat , our long awaited hoi4 Dev diary should be out tomorrow. What are you hoping to learn? What could we expect?
I believe we'll see a longer awaited Chinese focus tree, which would be a very pleasant surprise. This is supported by podcat's screen of the new Japanese minister, a war industrialist, said to "help them (Japan) Vs Chinese AI".

Maybe, just maybe, they are working on an actual patch which makes the game fully playable?! :rolleyes:
And maybe it takes time? :p
However they would need time to make a 1.4.1 to fix the bugs of the oak patch. So I hope to see a Mega-patch/dlc/expansion in a month or so :).

Which part of the game do you consider to currently not be "fully playable"?
Fully playable is poor word choice if taken 100% literally. Of course he means that it is satisfactory as in containing no AI or other systematic disappointments that completely shatter ones suspension of disbelief.

The game is obviously playable in the sense that you can run it from beginning to end usually without a crash. It is less playable in the sense that you are satisfied with the experience after having done so. Playable does not only mean that it can be played but that the experience actually makes one want to do so.

I expect AI improvements to be revealed, an improvement of the division shuffling of the battle planner, an overview of the new air war overhaul that is supposedly coming, and all of the several smaller fixes and improvements, such as the UI improvements. Basically all of the major features of the 1.4 patch. I think that the new DLC will be saved for next week.

After a month of no DDs and with the frustration of some people on this board who take that as a lack of progress I hope that they start off strong and give us some big stuff up front.

HoI IV is almost a year old and only a pretty petty dlc was released. Plus, they were none diaries for a while.
I'm hungry for novelty.

Highest priority to fix should be the division shuffling by ship. The Germans and Italians are currently underperforming against the Soviets. If they aren't constantly losing divisions in the English channel it should level the playing field a little.

There is one thing of which I think we can be certain. Over the course of the next half dozen or so DDs outlining the free patch for 1.4 as well as the DLC features, they will attempt to avoid repeating the public relations setback that was putting the spearhead command into the paid content category. That should be easier to avoid since reportedly this DLC will not be as thin on overall new content as was TFV.

The irony of all the backlash over the perceived inequity of spearhead being a paid feature is that, both from my own experience and what I have heard from others, that feature barely gets used at all. A far bigger boon was the ongoing focusses (which were a slightly larger set of choices with DLC rather than without).

Which part of the game do you consider to currently not be "fully playable"?

What I mean is that the game isn't finished yet:
-there are many balance issues: CAS is unrealistically op (on a positive sidenote they nerfed artillery), German Reich ai can't handle 1.3 (changes with resources) or El Salvador rampaging through the Americas (although this is kinda cool :rolleyes:)
-Notable gameplay issues like Japan not attacking Hawaii after Pearl Harbour Gambit, puppeting Poland as USSR when liberating it from Nazi occupation or simply lack of flavour events like in hoi3
-Weird imperfections as division shuffling, ai duplicating division templates rather than modifing or bizzare distribution of troops on the frontlines....

Any way it doesn't stop the game from being a very good game but as you may already know paradox gamers always ask for nearing perfection and I congratulate the Devs for usually fulfilling our demands ;)


Fully playable is poor word choice if taken 100% literally. Of course he means that it is satisfactory as in containing no AI or other systematic disappointments that completely shatter ones suspension of disbelief.

The game is obviously playable in the sense that you can run it from beginning to end usually without a crash. It is less playable in the sense that you are satisfied with the experience after having done so. Playable does not only mean that it can be played but that the experience actually makes one want to do so.
