It's' only speculation of course, but PDX is not EA but rather a mid-sized company; my guess is that a lot of people from the other teams were doing support works for CK3 in the last weeks. So hopefully the work on the next DLC is on track right now and we well see something within the next few weeks.

Maybe we'll get a patch first, then Patch notes and then dev diaries, going from Artwork to highly specific to broad announcement.

Reverse DD.

Reminds me of the old adage in public speaking: say what you're going to say, then say it, then say that you've said it. I like your idea of doing this backward.

I gotta be honest, this suspiciously long absence of Dev Diaries reminds me of the CK2 forums in the weeks before CK3 was announced.

I hope I'm wrong, as HOI4 still has so much to live for.

It might. But HOI 4 seemed to be huge improvement over 3. HOI 5 could be even better.

They can keep adding more flavor, whatever, but as someone who only bought the game a few months ago, I don't really care about the DLCs.

Mod makers add much flavor IMO, than any DLCs.

I'd rather they continue to develop macro level things and alternative history paths, alt history factions. Basic stuff too like the front system (still a little cumbersome especially when there's a strait involved, or multiple nations). AI (and sometimes lousy faction member AI.).

If HOI 5 had better features and a better engine then it wouldn't matter what they add to this game. Especially if it had more of a macro focus.

I find it totally implausible that they are already working on HOI V when HOI IV has a lot of capacity to evolve and continues to be one of the most played games of the company and it all has a useful life of many years like most paradox franchises

There is still lot of potential in HoI4. The engine is pretty good. No need to change it now.
In hard coded mechanics air force concept should be renewed - to form air units rather than simplified concept of air force being perfectly dividable up to sinlge piece. Pilots training should be more important factor. There are numerous ways to address it.
Another is chain of command - a step towards HoI3 - maybe just one step - not too far.

The rest is for modders. BICE rules :p

Yep Hoi 4 has much more Potential then we see atm. And it´s Modable, which the Predecessors aren´t or only very heavy.

What I have seen so far the Devs get in Mod-Ideas in the Game (like the synthetics). Maybe we will get more of that, the AI with better Templates (the last 2 Patches and last DLC were a very good step Forward), an advanced Ageceny and much more reworks, refits etc. with not getting complicated.

An new Hoi 2 / 3 nobody needs with the confusing complications the 2 Predecessors have.

HoI4 is their biggest game, they would be stupid not to milk that for another few years I think hoi4 will have a total life span of 10 years.

Strongly doubt it. They're only halfway through their road map and have announced another patch and DLC.
The delay is still odd, though.

My theory is that they're just not ready to start regular DDs yet. I know their last DD before summer is typically just "afk", and the first after summer is "back", perhaps with a teaser image or something, but once they release the first one, they've committed themselves to releasing one every week. There just might not be enough content at the moment for that, for whatever reason.

They seem to have increased the time they spend on developing games and DLC for all their projects, which as a result means that there isn't as much to talk about most of the time.

I want to point out one thing: On CK3 many paid features of Ck2 have become vanilla features (playing with anyone who is not Christian, bloodlines, reforming religion etc), with hoi4, instead they have almost everything wrong: They have removed a lot of features excellent present on hoi2 and hoi3 to put others badly done (see the horrible world tension, which replaces single person belligerence, too few spies, searches with ho2 tech teams that were wonderful, the economy where you really traded with resources for other resources, using civil industries ...) If with Ck3 to D1 they have done wonders, with hoi4 they have messed up almost totally (the only real upgrade, besides the graphic one, is that of the puppets, which can be annex and which have levels, for the rest too many steps have been taken back)

Some of the mechanics of the previous hois have been reintroduced in the HOI IV I am convinced this trend will continue in future dlcs and therefore in the final HOI IV bars they will be as complex as they were in the HOI III and II

Exactly Kimdif. The cool and usefull Staff from the 2 Previous Hoi Games come in again, like the Sidelist with Decisisions for political Points. The Ministers are there which you can get in for PP and so on.

Hoi 4 isn´t finished yet and we get more Surprises with the next Patches and DLC´s. The Ministers get upgraded or reworked, not implemented Fokuses will come in and others will get reworked (like UdSSR, Poland, Italy), the Airforce-Part get reworked as well as the Army and much more.

And the best thing of all is: The Game get still easy to learn and easy to play as it is now. What do we want more?

Paradox Studio has now many strategy games out and under ongoing support.
Many of us are playing more than one of their games on a regular basis.
This great success of the studio also creates the problem: there is so many games and DLCs that they are competing for the same audience.

Also the quality and polish expectations we have for their games has gone up a lot over the years.

In this kind of situation it makes no sense to publish too many DLCs.
I certainly welcome this current slower phase.

They are probably working at the Luxemburg focus tree with a total of 9000 focuses.

I hope they finish the Vatican City focus tree before starting on Luxembourg. We need to be able to show Stalin how many divisions the Pope has!

Yes!! In keeping with the HOI-4 division spam (unlike previous HOI series) the Vatican needs to have the ability to conquer the Americas in the decision tree:

Example:
“Spread the Good News” - increases manpower x 10,000,000
