I imagine you might benefit a lot from unlocking AI engine for modding, I find it difficult to believe that it's so difficult to script unless you're really trying to save up performance which is just not the right trade off.

Or you could straight up employ one of those AI engines from google or something to augument ur ai :p. Using us as the gunie pigs (mass production works).

Does national unity have any correlation to monthy recruitable manpower? e.g low national unity means less of the population would be recruitable? Do the conscription laws affect population growth?

I have no idea how many people have said this (too many pages at this time of day!), but I think some love for Asia would be in order for a dev diary. Especially with the AI quirks it has (like JPN sending GER a bunch of infantry divisions to fight the SU, yet are getting curbstomped in China) and the Chinese CIvil War (I know some of it was covered in a dev diary a while back but some AAR's or just test runs could be interesting for us, or at least for me, I like observing things :p).

As well as some Indian/South East Asian flavour if you guys have as I would love to see if a Vietnam-like scenario could happen.

Thanks a bunch for listening to us!

Now is the time to ask? So on those other dev diaries you didn't want our opinion then but now is ok?

The Ai is still a disaster, diplomacy is over simplified, trade is over simplified, forts are too cheap and too strong, tech tree needs expanding, more events.

You know like every game from Paradox, you need to put flesh on the skeleton of the game you released.

we are getting Manchukuo back so that will add a lot more flavor for the cihinese japanese war. should very much make Japan stronger since it will have the aid of its VERY strong puppet in the north. So thats good for asia in general

Do you know if Gurkhas are in the game?

Nepal begins the 1936 game with level 1 (basic) mountaineers. If Nepalese expertise in mountain warfare needed a boost, perhaps it would help if Nepal's starting tech was amended to Level 2 mountaineers. This advanced unit would represent Gurkhas. The naming convention could be changed and these level 2 mountaineer units could be given an historically accurate name.

But then in the interest of historical accuracy, how would the United Kingdom acquire this advanced unit? Three game mechanics come to mind: puppeting, volunteers, or expeditionary forces.

If Nepal was the UK's puppet, then the UK could click on the Nepal diplomacy screen and take the Level 2 mountain (representing the Gurkhas) units.

The AI Nepal could send volunteers to the UK. But special conditions have to be met to send volunteers.

Finally, expeditionary forces. The AI, once a member of the Allies, would send an expeditionary force to the UK consisting of Level 2 mountaineers (Gurkhas).

What are your thoughts?

Isn't Nepal the UK's puppet, or am I too old and used to hoi3? I'd say expeditionary forces. Make some events for the UK, and the ai_chance would be 100%, but the player gets the choice, and they arrive in some place where they were stationed, like, I dunno, London I guess.

But that might be part of the commonwealth expansion?

Yes, consider suggesting (on the suggestion forum) a Gurkha unit (Level 2 mountaineers for Nepal) for the Commonwealth Expansion that Podcast mentioned in his weekly Developers Diary.

Nepal is an independent country in HoI4.

From good ol' Wikipedia:

Following the German invasion of Poland, the Kingdom of Nepal declared war on Germany on September 4, 1939.

During World War II, there was an internal treaty between Nepal and Britain about the mobilization of Nepalese soldiers. In addition to RNA troops, Nepalese fought in the British Gurkha units and were engaged in combat all over the world.

The Nepali units that took part were Sri Nath, Kalibox, Surya Dal, Naya Gorakh, Barda Bahadur, Kali Bahadur, Mahindra Dal, Second Rifle, Bhairung, Jabbar Jung, Shumsher Dal, Sher, Devi Dutta, Bhairab Nath, Jagannath and Purano Gorakh Battalions.

Note the last word: Battalions. So. For historical accuracy, the HoI4 Nepalese would be 1 or 2 battalions. Perhaps 3 at the most, if they were combined into a regiment.

If we are going to see Manchukuo take its place in HoI4's Hall of Nations, then perhaps the Kingdom of Nepal has its place, too in HoI4.

I honestly wish I could suggest it, but I don't even have the game! I've been following with interest but I am patiently waiting for the next few patches. Maybe for my bday in April next year, I dunno. But I just want it to have more fleshed out experience and added moddability. The more I look at it, the more I like it, but at first I was absolutely... Unsatisfied by what the June release offered. Historical AI foci going haywire, Central American countries joining the Chinese Liberation front? I can't fathom that.

I don't wanna rant more and I could only really suggest things here.

Well done! Modders are the locomotives of the HoI4 improvement train.

I would love to see a dev diary on post WW2. Perhaps how armies can de-escalate and then revamp into the cold war. I actually enjoy the game overall, but unlike Stellaris and Eu4 the time line is so...small... I know mods will take care of this but abit more support would be interesting. Wars won't be so large scale ...
