Now I know that it will never happen because of possible anti-nationalist backlash in Germany, but I think that Deutschland über alles would be a great song for Vicky 2, seeing as how German unification played such a huge role in this time period.

Plus I think the song is beautiful and fits the time frame.

Any one else agree?

You can always put it into the Music folder by yourself, and add it to the song list.

I find the first stanza a bit weird (very territorial with all those rivers, and a bit scary with the "Germans stand together always" part) and obviously you don't sing it because all the wrong people do it.

The second one just makes you laugh today... German women and German wine and German songs, what was von Fallersleben thinking, he must have been really homesick on Heligoland...

The third stanza is the one I like to hear and that's not just because they play it at football matches. :)

Isn't it the current anthem of Germany? Why would it cause controversy?

Well sort of. The current national anthem is only the third verse of the original song, the other two being seen as to nationalistic with such lines as "From the Maas to the Memel", rivers which constituted the borders of the old German empire, and " Deutschland über alles" which translated is " Germany Over Everyone (or all)".

This causes controversy because anything slightly nationalistic in Germany is quickly denounced as Nazism.

I sing it.

Well, the first verse sometimes anyway. I just can't get it out of my head.

Since the words wouldn't be included, it wouldn't be an issue...also, that music was Austrian first! :3

maybe the instrumentals for the chorus or most notable point of each nations national anthem as it was at that time? wouldnt take up that much room as it wouldnt be high quality or all the instruments maybe just a piano or computer rendition, for that imersion thing people are quite fond of.

It's quite obvious that the OP has NEVER played Victoria. Because Joseph Haydn's melody string quartet was easily one of the most recognizable songs in Victoria's soundtrack.

lol, nice editing

And what does suggesting 1 song that wasn't in vicky 1 has to do with with your statement?

The German anthem is instrumentally the same as the Austrian Empires anthem "Gott erhalte, Gott beschütze unsern Kaiser unser Land ..."

The Germans just added a new text to the melody.

And as the melody already is in Vicky 1 the debate is a bit weird other than the general debate to include historical music at all (which wasnt done for the last few paradox games).

Not sure what this discussion of the origins of the German national anthem really has to do with Vicky 2 forum. Thread closed, I'm sure we'll get a list of music that will be included in the game from the developers at some point in the future.
