It's not the only one, even ignoring Austria's (well, depending on one's definition of Austrian).

I will speak up and say, many anthems have very objectionable portions or themes to them. This doesn't mean they should be omitted when they completely into the period and, as shown by some of our German posters, still mean something to the members of the country. Whether from internal or external forces, WWII made Germans afraid of being proud of their country, because of how effectively Hitler manipulated them using this pride. This fear is misplaced in this era. There are probably plenty of Native American who would be offended by any part of Star Spangled Banner, yet I've heard no one mention it. Besides, the idea of political correctness can only be taken so far. Whatever you do, whenever you do it, you will offend at least a few people. Perhaps, if there are enough people who are offended by the idea that it wouldn't be wise to have the verses in thr game, maybe make a small patch that adds in the angrifying music. That way, people who don't want it, don't have to.

Alerias, thanks for the lyrics (paroles en francais indeed!)... I'm fan of both the German and the French anthems. The sentiments are certainly less bloodthirsty and trite than say God Save the Queen.

It's strange, but in our anthem we don't have any brutality, offensive language, not even any slaughter. What we do have, however, are long range runners, swimmers, tough-guys-walking-on-water and some hallucinating old man..

It was really a perfect choice in the twenties, especially when you take into consideratrion all the alternatives...

The most popular was 'Rota' by Maria Konopnicka. Lot's of 'teutonic storms', 'so help us God', 'we won't be buried alive', 'golden horns vowing to fight' and my favourite: 'The German won't spit in our face/ Nor will he germanize our children'. One of our greatest writers of those times, who took part in the anthem comission, noted that the 'German won't spit in our face, but we apparently have nothing against the Russian'.

This way we have a pretty neutral anthem. And we, as the only nation in the world, have Napoleon Bonaparte mentioned in it! (Bonaparte showed us all/ How to win).

Even in its original instrumental string quartet version as written by the Austrian Haydn as Austrian anthem? Well, your choice, but remember that in previous Paradox games you could easily change the playlists or add/remove songs, and that you can turn the music off completely.

I completely support this anthem being put into the game if they do it by anthems, its on my top 3 favorite national songs, and if it isnt in the game I will probably add it in along with a few other period anthems and such. Im also a person who completely supports and desires the return of Deutschland Uber Alles to its former self, not the cut down version which is in use.

Strange how 60-70 years after the events that gave the German National Anthem its bad connotation normal people still have a problem with it. I guess that's the difference between a politician and a historian.

Historians recall things for how they were, politicians recall things for how they would have liked them to have been or try to rewrite events to cover the ugly side.

wouldn't have a problem with the german (or any other) anthem being in the game since it would, at least in my opinion, improve the atmosphere of the game...

by the way to have "preussens gloria" or the "präsentiermarsch" of friedrich wilhelm III in, would be great, too.

While I don't see a problem here, I can understand that the song considered an anthem of german supremacy, a song that accompanied mass murders and crimes agains humanity might be considered offensive to some. On the contrary, I doubt that the mere geographical existence of Germany can be offensive to anyone.
