The only reason I don't say to much to this topic is because some people are hypersensetive and to politicly correct. I have no problem whatsoever with our anthem and I realy don't give a hoot how other nationals think about it.

Regardless, the old words are unquestionably not PC after the 20th century. And to turn around and endorse a tune that is of course entirely PC after the 20th century, I must say die internationale is definately a good thought for certain eras of Vic.

It's different. The Brit anthem is explicitly about crushing rebellious scots but no one seriously thought about doing that,

I recognize some of God save the Tsar....from the 1812 overture?
Yup. Back in 1840, when dinosaurs were still roaming the earth, it wasn't really meant as a claim for annexation but rather as an appeal to all who considered themselves Germans, calling for them to unite and bring unity, justice and freedom to the nation.. all of which the Germany of 1840 was sadly lacking.Originally posted by Caranorn
The problem for other nationals is that they find their country(ies) claimed in the original Deutschlandlied. According to some of the other posters on this forum I would be German, to which I greatly object, germany the state is quite different from the old Germanic or even more defined German (Deutsch, teuton) people or their language. To some, the original purpouse of unifying the former germanic HRE is laudable, but to others it is a clear sign of agression.
On the other hand, I was surprised to hear that the Deutschland uber alles stanza has been officially removed from the anthem as it is those words I always think of when I hear the hymn. Seing as this also became my parents and grandparents hymn for some 2 years (occupation was longer, but the annexation only started in 42), my only reaction to hearing the Deutschlandlied is retching and a strong urge to throw up (this is not a criticism of the hymn, in the end germany decides, this is just litteraly the way I feel when I hear the song or melody).[/B]
Others have already explained what's wrong with it, and quite well too.Originally posted by Herr Stark
There is not one single thing that is wrong with Deutschland über alles.
It was originally not a song, but the melody for the second movement of Haydn's string quartet number 77 'Emperor' in C major. I agree that it would be nice to have this movement in the game.An instrumental version of this would be good to have in the game, considering that before it was known as Deutschland über alles it was the Kaiser Hymn by Haydn.

I have to say that I think the current German government leaves a lot to be desired. I would post a link to the melody and words of Deutschland uber Alles, but it would probably not be wise to do so. After all, any German who clicked on the link could be arrested, sent to jail for sixty days, and be made to pay a fine. It is also illegal to produce any text suggesting a soldier might become a hero, or obtain honor and fame.

Just because the victors of World War II brainwash the German people into a lack of patriotism for their own country, it doesn't mean that they, or this game should comply with it.
