Introduction
As the moon stands tall on the darkened night sky, staring at me with its illuminating, curious glow. “What are you thinking about”, it wants to ask me. Well, it’s a long story.

At first I was just a relatively simple prince ruling over some territory in northern Germany. Prussia, we call it.

After some heavy fighting I managed to proclaim myself emperor of the HRE. I was overjoyed, contemplating over my amassing opportunities.
But soon after that more news came in. I had inherited the throne of France. At first I didn’t know how to react, I simply disregarded it in favor of the other news, but then, after a couple of days… I realized what hd just happened… I had inherited the most prestigious crown on the face of this planet… And then I realized… there was only one thing to do…

Proclaim myself L’empeur francaise!

-Thank you, moon! I shouted in excitement.
-You’re welcome, he responded with a calm voice.

Chapter one, planning the deed

My first priority had to be reconquering my French provinces from the despicable Burgundians, as well as move my capital to France, and proclaim myself emperor. “Before I can move my capital though”, I thought, “I’ll have to wait until things settle down in France. Even though things proceeded nicely, they will still need some time to readjust to the new circumstances, so I’ll have to wait before moving the capital over.” While I wait I will keep up the pressure on the Burgundians and make sure things settle down around Europe. The moon nodded at me with a pleased smile.

As I was just about to write a letter to the painting commissioner, a man rushed inside my doors. “There is a new performance running in a neighboring town!” he shouted in between his panting breaths, he was exhausted. “If we support them financially, they will help our realm improve its culture and calm the peasantry! Also… it was beautiful”. Hmm, I thought to myself. If it’s beautiful then… “Carry on” I said with a pretend-to-be calm voice. How could you possibly be calm during these times? I never went to see the show myself but I’ve heard from several people that it was supposedly spectacular. Let’s hope they were right.

A couple of hours later, an angry bank man entered my office. He shoved some kind of paper right in my face!

He says the loan cannot be delayed anymore! “YOU HAVE TO PAY UP NOW!” he insisted. But as head of state, I just simply nodded to my royal guards. As they dragged the man out of the room he shouted “YOU CAN’T KEEP THIS UP FOREVER!!”. Lunatics… Extending loans is what you do when you don’t have any money, even if it’s only temporarily. Sigh…

As widespread opposition began to spring up in France I had no choice but to raise some domestic regiments as the standards of our army had not yet made their way into France. Let’s hope this won’t affect our future relations in a negative fashion.

-That’s unlikely, the moon said.
-Why is that? I asked curiously.
-Why? Well, by using their own inhabitants you’re showing them that you find them trustworthy and usable, a good sign for their future ruler! Don’t you agree?
-I guess, I said quietly.

Come to think of it, the moon hasn’t left the sky for several days. I didn’t ask though, as to not hurt his feelings.

“SIR! SIR! Listen to this!”. I made of a tired sigh before putting my letters to the painting commissioner down, why does everyone have to bother me?
“Our foremost philosopher Benedikt von Anhalt-Dessau”, he started, I looked at him with a questioning face and he started to speak faster
“he came up with a brilliant scheme. Since you’re going to claim the throne of France and all, he sent out some people to rally support in your favor. He found that the people of Nevers were particularly excited about being freed from Burgundian rule. They are ready to accept you as their new emperor right away!”
I waved him out of my office. I walked out of my office and into the war room down the hall. I uttered the following words and nothing else.

“Prepare the troops for war; Burgundy is going to taste German steel.”

Constructive criticism!!! Ummmkay. It looks like you started the game in 1399 or at least before your first post. I'd start the AAR with the begining of your game so people have an idea what you're doing, how you got to where you are, what you are trying to accomplish etc. Otherwise it feels like you're starting to read a book that's mising the first third of the pages. :)

Well, yes, the idea to do the AAR only occured to me after I inherited France. Do you think I should do a more thorough introduction where I do a summary of past events? :)

I actualy liked the lunatic (pun intended) attitude of the Emperor. His insanity is very... freudian. He wants to tell what happend from the time the Moon told him he has inherited France, and what happened before that... meh, who cares. Perhaps he did the things all rulers do. Not all rulers inherit France and speak with the Moon. Thus, the contempt for his early life (before the news of inheritence messed up his delicate cerebrum) made him start telling the story at this point, not any other. I've read tons of (sometimes great, I have to agree) aars starting normally. I've yet to see one start from where the Moon tells a Prussian King that he inherited France.

At least thats what Alpha Centauri told me the other day, and I agree with her. :p
