Sorry if it was answered elsewhere :

1. Some posters talk about a windowed mode. How do you set such a mode, since it does not appear in the options menu?

2. My settings.txt file only states this :

1024
768
MUSIC_ON

My 19-inch widescreen has a native resolution of 1440 X 900.

2a - May I change the game's resolution there...up to what ?
2b - If I play in a window, must I change the rez in that text-file ?

(Just purchased DV on October 4, and I am very happy about it.)

1) Change your shortcut to the following:
"C:\Games\Crusader Kings Beta\Crusaders.exe" window

2a) Change it to anything you want (I am not aware of a limit), just type the resolution in the text file.
2b) Yes, change it to the starting resolution you want. Note that the video will still go fullscreen at the beginning. Note that you also NEED to be running in 16 bit colours if you're running the game windowed, or it will crash.

I am enjoying the game so far, and I absolutely love the fact that marriages strengthen relations. I am yet to see how loyalty and relations mix, that could be interesting. :)

One possibly odd thing. Seeing as Children are supposed to gain stats as they age (or mature), why does Donnchad Ai Mordha the grandson of the Duke of Leinster in the 1066 campaign have stats of 7/5/5/6 when he's only 1 year old?

In my game his grandfather and father both dies in the first 6 years of gametime, so he inherited as a 7 year old. And with his stats he can easily keep the realm together (so far)...

I have a 2,8G processor with 2G memory - and I get pauses every month too. Not too bad at the moment, but I'm worried about what's going to happen as time goes by - in the original CK I'd lose half of January each year waiting for the game to become responsive again during a save. At least this time the game is resuming on 1st January each time - so far anyways...

Have fun
Finn

I'm not up to 1100 in my first game yet, but I'm losing the first 10 days of January at the autosave every year. I remember in one of the early patches for CK a change was made to "pause" the game in the background while the autosave was working. I think it had something to do with save files getting corrupt and causing crashes. Looks like that change didn't make it to DV.

I'm also getting the pauses at the first of each month. 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 1 GB of RAM.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the changes so far.

I'm getting the hiccups at the end/beginning of each month too. P4 3.4 ghz, 2 gb of RAM here. Autosaving is taking ages too.

But apart from that and not being able to fire advisors, I like it a lot (it's a shame what happened to the economic map, though). The ledger and the new game dynamics really added a lot. Being able to find a bride in seconds is really great.

Been playing for almost a day, off and on and LOVE it so far.

I have found, however, that the most important stat for courtiers is LOYALTY... Ooff as a matter of fact, I find my advisers being sub-par simply because they are more loyal than the skilled candidates.

It makes court management so much more interesting, if not frustrating. ;)

TO be honest with you it was just too much work to go through all the children in the scenario files and try to guess what their stats would be. It is only affects the first generation and then things settle down. We felt it wasn't too major a problem.

Also for the record the las some of you are spotting at month end is the game purging characters. I know it does hit low end machines a little, but having millions of useless characters hits them harder in the long run. So we felt the same specs still applied.

Absolutly Brilliant.

Nice to see we no longer discover goats and chicken but more logical developments

Used the Bride finder once, but then just started marrying the family of friends

Gained a rival in a next door count whose daughter was a fostering in my court, only to have my son fall in love with her...

Lost a Civil war where on the loyalist side so decleared independance.

Squashed some poor Rus Count for the sake of Friendship.

Feuded with my wife over her bonking the steward

The Turk over ran Byzantine and took all of Anatolia, only to have thier king die in battle and the whose kindom fragment into many waring Emirates.
The dozne or so little shiekdoms in Anatolia, without the baking of the King lost the various rebellions and now half are independant Orthodox counts. The ones on the Ionian coast are paying Homage to the Empeor while the ones up north are banding up a Prince who survived the Turk.

The Pagans Alans rebelled again thier Orthodox Alan Nobility and now they are free tribes.

The Jewish Turks and hard to keep down, setting up two independant counties.

Egypt was split with a shi'a/sunni civil war
And the war in Anatolia contiued to burn with French Minor Nobles Crusading for the Holy City passing through and grabbing the odd county on the way.

Like the ledger, most rule changes, rivals/friends, etc. Could use some of the tweaks people mention.

I started as Byzantium and was having trouble just holding it together as the ruler starts with horrific stats. I had Elective Law, and when he died, it wasn't his kin who inherited, so I became a count (his son) even though first in line to inherit did get Emperor. So I saved and reloaded as him. Only problem is that all the court was lost, so now I have very few - only enough now to put one in each advisor slot. Think we may need a bit more advisors.

I'd like to actually be able to get popups or whatever when techs are gained (as an option).

About 10 years in, and Germany has crumbled, England also. Yet Wales has almost been formed as the AI gets easy vassalization (I can't seem to get anyone to vassalize with me, even though relations are +150 or so and they are 1 province while I'm the Byzantines).

The first time I tried, the Seljuks were destroying me as I didn't have the money to fight them - all kinds of corruption in my demesne provinces !? And with lousy stats. And I messed up by changing a law early. :) So I reloaded, Seljuks made early peace for money, and now as I have rebellious vassals, I spend all my time and most of my money just to keep it all together.

Seems almost no one in my family or court to marry...? I keep getting offers for my one good advisor, and I'd rather marry her to someone in my court to stop that, but while there are single men, none are my family, so I can't arrange a marriage...

One question - I have a vassal with Loyalist, but it gives no loyalty bonus??? He was sliding to rebellion based on my traits. Understandable, but a Loyalist who will do almost anything for his liege should get a loyalty bonus. :)

I'm interested to play more. Religious war keeps down the overruns, though if it gives BB, that isn't so good.

I really like the peace option to allow for reinstatement of the vassal with full or reduced status. I've used it a couple times because I can't afford to lose courtiers by giving them count titles, and my children are too young for them. So I've kept the Prince titles I won in the war and gave back a count status to the rebellious one. Seems a fair enough trade and doesn't hit BB too much.

For some reason, the base tax of Byzantium declines over time. And it's not because of Poor land or other reasons. I have stewardship now at +146%, yet it keeps declining. Why is that? Is it the thieves guild or whatever? Or is there another reason? How do I stop it & even hopefully make it grow?

Overall, it's great. I'm definitely going to be playing a lot of CK/DV over the next few weeks.

Excellent work Paradox - I've refound my old love... :p

It's rock stable (okay, I've only played 20 years), the ledger especially is useful, making bridefinding a breeze etc etc. Overall, it's far less hazzle now, making the game far more fun.

And I got a new medal... :D

Yes.

I've noticed that the average stats for children seem to be quite a bit higher now.

Yes. CK is functionally dead. I can't start a single game, no matter what scenario or country I pick. My old saved games are unable to load, either.
