As much as I like DV, it's indeed the current pledge system that I really don't like, the more I play the game. If it's technicaly not possible for the AI to look for potential lieges in the near or not so near neighbourhood, then I would rather prefer the old system.

I'm quite good at suspending disbelief and I expect a rather ahistorical map after a century and still enjoy the game, but now you have a complete mess after just a few years.
I enjoy seeing how realms interdependenly change, grow or shrink, but now the change seem to happen completely random and without any effort on the part of the potential lieges.

You're lucky, I've seen the Spaniards vassalize Muslim sheiks..

In a way or other, this really happened with Portugal, Leon and Castille at least. So, no probs with that.

The only prob I can see in the expansion is the random way vassals pledge.

Even if not game breaking in my opinion, I *do* hope Paradox comes up with a patch for this (being an older title and all, I suppose there is no direct comercial gain at all in spending time with this product, other than building goodwill from the customers).

Trouble is, their lieges always declare war on them and then the other muslims sweep in and grab the land, it actually weakens Spain..

IMO vassals should pledge according to two rules:

- geographical realm (like France, Burgundy, Poland etc.)
- culture - same for them and their future liege

If those two factors could be implemented, it would be great.

That's pretty much where I am at the moment. I just can't play the game as it is, it takes it too far out of the realm of realism.

I like the ideas behind the changes made, but until DV is patched I don't think I'll be playing it again.

I suspect that EU:Rome will probably borrow some ideas from CK - if so getting dynamic empires working correctly in DV will give some valuable feedback on what's likely to go down well and what isn't in EU:Rome. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic here - but what the heck!

Have fun

I wouldn't say my game is unplayable, but it is strange as the King of Scotland to get pledge offers from Croatians and Dutchmen.

I agree, this makes the most sense, if it's possible to implement it. I've seen Brittany pledge to France -- didn't that get changed by 1.05, or was that an unofficial mod?

I think it should be a bit more flexible than that. A count or duke who just fought the King of France and is near enough could very well pledge allegiance to the King of "Germany" as a way to defend themselves.

I just think these huge geographical distances can't go on, because it makes no sense pledging allegiance to someone who simply can't defend you, which is the very principle of vassalage.

We Need a Popup for.....

When our provinces are under attack. I don't know how many times I "accidentally" catch rebels attacking my far off provinces. When you're heavy into a war you don't get to see all that goes on and I've always found this an issue in my games. Looking for rebel attacks or one of my provinces under attack by anyone for that matter.

Now, I found the popups for when our "ARMIES" are under attack or when someone "OCCUPIES one of your provinces" but, not a one for when you province goes under attack??? If there is one please direct me to it, if not please Johan put one in...thank you. :)

A flag appears with a siege engine graphic on it in the top right, similar to the ones you get when you have vassals with <50% loyalty or empty courtier positions.

Not in my game they don't.

Also on the pledging I don't really see a randomness to it. Just about all of Russia pledged to Byzantium in my game. Germany broke up and everyone is taking pieces of it like actually took place. I don't see that much out of order for it to be such an issue. I like having Leon in my backyard of Sweden and Denmark, it's made for some facinating wars. Don't change it Johan. :D

I liked the suggestion in the other thread - either the 'natural' liege or an adjacent liege. Also I'd like to the see the AI force vassalisation sometimes - right now it always seems to either wipe someone off the map or accept something trivial - but nothing in between.

Have fun

Yup that is a perfectly plausible chaotic Kingdom Map, just the kind I like. :D

If they cannot find a worthy liege in the area, then they should not pledge and instead seek allies outside the area (but not too far).

We don't need the Sejuks in Iberia simply because of pledging (which would never have happened anyway).

I like chaotic kingdoms too. But what I hate is a few uberstrong kingdoms that are scattered all across the map.

I really enjoy the uberstrong kingdoms strung all over the map. It was getting boring beating the single or two province duchies and pagans all the time. The map I have now it's hard to find something to take without a huge major war now. I like that. That's the way it should be. :) What I don't like is my king costing me huge amounts of prestige sometimes to take a province, but, that keeps me in check from expanding too fast as well and I really don't mind that. I find if I wait till he's in a war I can go land grabbing a lot easier.

Well Im really enjoying it so far!

I've only played 20 years but so far its been way more fun and "alive" then vanilla CK, great work!.

As has been stated the pledging system needs some tweaking. Most of the kingdoms havent fallen apart in my game yet, but they have gotten smaller, we'll see what another 20 years brings. The pause at the end of the month hasnt been an issue for me. The game is slower on a whole, but then there's alot more going on with characters now so I cant just leave on highest speed all the time now. Which IMO is good, vanilla seemed rather dead compared to DV.

I think the new way characters gain skills is far better. In my England game my heir (Robert) had a really bad wife with very poor stats, but their first born son (and most of the others) ended up being very good. Now that William the bastard is dead my realm is finally stabalizing.

There is one thing I noticed, not sure if its WAD but I granted a couple of count titles away to people in my court, both I thought were loyal, but as soon as they were granted a title both their loyalties started at 0 but were climbing. However they both DOW'd me within a few months. I beat them up, force them to be my vassal again and their loyalty starts at 100? Shouldnt they be totally loyal to you after you give them a title, not after you have a war with them?

All in all its a vast improvement.

Thank You!

PS: Question, do get any BB for forcing them to be your vassal if they were previously your vassal?

Probably. Your rep is your rep as far as your vassals are concerned, and those disloyal schmucks like the idea that they can declare independence on a whim.

You should be able to get around the problem by giving up a few claims. If the bastard re-rebels you'll get new claims anyway, might as well lose some BB in the meantime.

No. In fact, you get no BB for forcing a vassal peace even if the vassal wasn't yours to begin with.

This means that for dukes, to acquire a county as part of their realm, it is a lot cheaper BB-wise to grab a claim (-0.4), declare war (0.0), and then just vassalize the original owner (0.0) than to grab a claim (-0.4), declare war (0.0), take the county (-0.8), and then give it away (+0.2)...

Does the game allow for AI lieges to reward loyal counts/dukes with titles and such?

Because Ive not see in it in DV! In 1.05 I would periodically be promoted to a duke with a vassal or two depending on the region, but in DV Ive seen my liege the KoE wipe out East, SEast and South England of treacherous vassals and me Ive stuck with him through events and calls to arms from some of those vassals I was allied to. Yet no title?

Imo this should be added to a future patch if not currently implemented!
