I haven't abandoned it, but I simply don't have much free time (typing this in a coffee break at work).
When my job settles down a bit more I'll definitely continue updating it -- there's a lot in the pipeline. I can't set any deadlines though.

I have an Mac version of Crusader Kings and DV. Do you know if the mod works on a Mac?

Edit:
OK, I gave it a try on the Mac, the game loads and seems to work, but after a couple of turns it CTD's.

this happens on my mac as well... does anyone know if its a certain file that would crash on the mac version? i'd like to use the DVIP but it crashes after just a minute or so of gameplay.

I use the original file (DV) for the break free events and it helps. I still have crashes however but less often than when I had the DVIP break free events file. It seems to be related to an event that fires when I am at war but I have not yet been able to identify which one is guilty.

One question. I have ruler with int 7 and i have already got message in right corner, that says he can only rule without penalty only one and now im on 95%. But in description it says he can rule 3. ????

The 3 is simply the Intrigue value of your monarch (alone, not counting his spymasters abilities!) divided by 2 and rounded.

However that value is then further modified by the rank of your ruler.

The lowest rank, Counts have that value divided by 2 again, so with an Intrigue of 7 your ruler can effectively rule only 1 province
(except when you build Royal Posts in his provinces which cost you 5% of income but negate an efficiency penalty up to 20%). So not cost-efficient yet, but if you gain more provinces and your efficiency drops to say 80% (20% loss) then Royal Posts are worth it.

In the first post in this thread:

...
The DVIP is fully compatible with Crusader Kings Deus Vult with the 2.1 beta patch of 13.06.2008 applied.
...

the newest patch of 15.10.2008 is not mentioned - however in the thread where one can download the DVIP it is said that DVIP is compatible with the Octobre patch. Could you update the first post in this thread as well?

Is the installation of DVIP completely overwriting the files of CK-DV so that I can from then on ONLY play DVIP?

Or are they installed in a separate folder (like e.g. AGCEEP for EU2) so that I can play both CK-DV OR DVIP?

I have updated the first post, and made a statement on the addon in the download thread.

Deus Vult does not support a moddir, so it will overwrite the CK-DV files. If you want to keep the original game around, copy the entire game folder before unzipping DVIP on top of it. I have five installs of CK on my box:

-vanilla DV with 2.1 beta patch
-DVIP
-DVIP Addon
-DVIP mapmod (unfinished)
-TASS

I use individual shortcuts to launch the game I want to.

O.k. I did exactly that.

On first sight you have the same problem with the County of St. Gallen (Hohenstaufen dynasty) that the vanilla game had and that I reported here and Veldmaarschalk found a solution for:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=392711

(being that savegames can´t be loaded because their names are ingame cutoff after the "." so the counties name must not have a "." in it).

I noticed that the Staufer are located in St. Gallen in DVIP as well just as in DV vanilla. There has been some discussion about moving them further north in this thread:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146762&page=4
but it did not go into the game as it seems.

Would it be possible to move the Hohenstaufen dynasty from St. Gallen to "Fürstenberg" in the 1066 scenario?
Currently Fürstenberg is a province ruled directly by Rudolph of Rheinfelden as Duke of Swabia and the Hohenzollern are Counts of St. Gallen and vassals of Swabia.

Moving them to Fürstenberg and in turn giving Rudolph St. Gallen as direct province could have this advantages:
1) Fürstenberg is geographically closer to the Staufer historical origins near Waiblingen, see maplocation on german wiki:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiblingen
2) Friedrich von Hohenstaufen historically replaced Rudolph as Duke of Swabia after 1079 when Friedrich stayed loyal to the Emperor Heinrich IV and Rudolph did not. "Usurping" the title Duke of Swabia is far easier when one already has a province located in Swabia. In the game the provinces of Swabia proper are Fürstenberg, Ulm, Würtember and Schwaben - but not St. Gallen. So Friedrich is supposed to become Duke of Swabia soon but does rule a province outside the proper Duchy making it harder for the Staufer to achieve nearly historical success. Swapping St. Gallen for Fürstenberg would solve this.

Could Fürstenberg then be renamed "Waiblingen"? I know that the name on the map can´t be modded, but the name of the County in the scenarios can. I would like to have a Friedrich von Hohenstaufen, Count of Waiblingen, because Waiblingen was the historical battlecry during the struggele of the Hohenstaufen for control of the empire:

Good ideas, I'll implement them in the next update.

I won't rename the province though, as it will make it too hard to find since we can't edit the map. I do have a new map planned, but I've no idea if I can get around to finishing it :(

Hohenstaufen dynasty

Starting a game as Friedrich von Hohenstaufen (Count of St. Gallen) I was annoyed by the "no heirs" warning sign in the corner of the monitor and wondered where the rest of his family was.

Reading a bit on wiki I found that he was only the 4th of at least 6 children:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stammliste_der_Staufer

In this thread Veldmaarschalk put his sister and brothers into gamestats:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9333669&postcount=14

Adding them would give a boost to the Staufer dynasty, that starts as simple counts, to ensure that they have a chance to achieve their prominent status as successors of the Salier dynasty as emperors.

If adding all of them would be too much then at least Otto ought to be added as he became a regent in his own right as Bishop of Strassburg.

Not quite. Counts divided by 4 and rounded, Dukes divided by 2 and Kings can rule their full Intrigue value of provinces without penalties.

Or as Mel Brooks puts it in his movie History of the world: "It´s good to be King!".

There's additional modifiers as well due to time. The further you go, the more land you can rule. In the years 1200 and 1300 you gain +1 max land. I do not know if it is rounded.

I started up the 1204 scenario as Nicaea, and I get a game-crashing error whenever I try to look at "potential brides" in the ledger. A few pages back, somebody else posted the same error, but I didn't see any fix for it (or at least, not anything I understood):
fatal error!

I waited a full year without opening the ledger, but this still occurs. Does anyone know anything about this, or if it can be remedied? I'm using DVIP with the variant add-on, if that helps.

There are some bugs in the 1204 scenario I've not yet been able to fix -- it's still very much a work in progress.
Are you on XP perhaps? I found that XP crashes a lot more than Vista... and since I use the latter, I just can't find some of these crashers :(

I've got a small question.

I just got this game and decided to give your mod a go =) looks good!

I've downloaded, copied/pasted the contents of the main mod and also the contents of the 'addon variant' you've put in your download thread. However, when I try to start a 1066 scenario an "Abort, retry, fail" type box pops up, as it can't find the automated courtier education event file. I'm assuming you've dropped this from the addon until the bugs with it are fixed. If I hash this file out in the events.txt file, can I carry on without problems, or do some of your own events point to this?

Many many thanks! It looks like you've done a great job with this mod and I appreciate the chance to try it out. It's nice for me, having come late to this game, to be able to experience it first try with all the updates & mods.

I would like to have a Friedrich von Hohenstaufen, Count of Waiblingen, because Waiblingen was the historical battlecry during the struggele of the Hohenstaufen for control of the empire:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghibelline
Good ideas, I'll implement them in the next update.

I won't rename the province though, as it will make it too hard to find since we can't edit the map. I do have a new map planned, but I've no idea if I can get around to finishing it :(

It's no need to rename the province. The provinces are wrong anyway, the borders are wrong, the names are wrong. Paradox has a tradition of just throwing fantasy provinces on the map. So far for historical accuracy. IMO Waiblingen is infamous and people would only ask what it is. Furthermore, Hohenstaufen is in the east of Schwaben, near Ulm. Ulm is famous and I would take CK-Ulm as core province of the Hohenstaufen.

The CK-Fürstenberg is located at the northern center of Schwaben where the core of Württemberg was. Fürstenberg was in east of CK-Breisgau. There was never a Württemberg in CK-Württemberg, which belongs to Franken. CK-Württemberg matches more likely to Ansbach and CK-Ansbach is rather Bamberg-Bayreuth. I have 100s of maps but I never found Leiningen.

That might be it, though way off in Pfalz. But I would advise against changing names of provinces in this part of the map, for the names can only be changed in province.csv, the old ones remain on the map, and hardly known names together with the defragmentation in the area and the displacement in the CK-map will lead to confusion. I rename provinces, for example Ile de France to Paris, Chelminskie to Kulm, Asturias de Oviedo to Asturia, Asturias de Santillana to Cantabra, because when they are referred to in a message I can read them easier, I will recognise them and know where I will find them, but I wouldn't know what Santilllana is.

Commenting it out with a hash mark will do the trick :)

Hope you enjoy the game. CK is my favourite Paradox game still.

Hey,

In case anyone is interested, I created a cultures map for what I think is the most recent version of DVIP's 1066 scenario:

(Click to see a larger version)
It's just colors pasted on top of one of the province reference maps so it looks a bit messy. PM me if you would like a cleaner map without the province numbers and JPEG fringe frizzles.

Best regards and many thanks for this great mod :)
