This is because of an interalitional treaty signed after WW which gave states the right of sovereignty, unless just cause could be shown that they were historically tied to the claimant's country. Such a treaty did not exist in CK period.
Actually in Europe the sovereignty of states was acknowledged as early as the end of the 30 year war. By that time the states involved agreed that each prince should rule his territory without foreign interventions, and that the religion of the prince was to be the religion of the state which he ruled. Of course this didn't extend to non-european states. Nor did it with one stroke eliminate foreign meddling, just like the current international law doesn't prevent countries like the US and Russia from meddling in other countries affairs.

The problem is that there is no law above that issued or agreed to by sovereign states. So a "legitimate claim" is an oxymoron, because it would have to be legal in some legal framework that doesn't exist.
Legitimacy =\= Legality
You can legitimize your rule without resorting to law. Though laws is often passed to strengthen your claim of legitimacy. Which is of course a paradox since no law can be considered legitimate, as long as the sovereign that passed it isn't. Thus a legitimate claim to sovereignity is legitimate as long as it is widely accepted.

Alexander Seil said:
The only way a claim could be legitimate is if the "victim" were to acknowledge it to be such.
Uhh... no. I'm afraid if you break a law you find stupid, you will still be convicted for doing so. Likewise if a country say Iran or North Korea doesn't abide to the international rules, they will face sanctions. Of course limited by real politics. If noone is capable of enforcing a sanction then it doesn't really matter. Like if you owned a military forces bigger that the country you lived in, then the country couldn't really convict you of anything, if you didn't want them to.

Alexander Seil said:
And the best way to do that is brute force of arms (as exhibited for the past 5000 years of civilized human existence).
Actually the worst possible way of legitimizing your rule would be raw power. Such a claim invites people to challenge your rule, since transfer of rule by use of raw power is apparantly acceptable. Even military dictatorships try to legimize their rule with something else than sheer military might. Sure you can expand your borders with the sword, but ruling by the sword isn't really a long term solution.

There is a list of confirmed and rumored features in DV?

1. There will be relations between countries
2. There will be more character-traits, 'weak-willed' f.e.
3. There will be a new duchy setup (this most likely means that there is also a new kingdom setup)
4. A new effect, 'stability' of your country will be in it
5. You will be able to send fosterlings to other courts
6. There will be a ledger, from where you can pick brides
7. There will be a new court-interface
8. Offspring will start with zero-stats
9. Revolts in provinces will have more meaningfull effects
10. The religious war system will be changed
11. There will be alert icons (f.e. if one of your courtposition is vacant)
12. There will be more events

Do I have to have the old CK to apply this new expansion over it
or it is new independent stuff which doesn't require any prior
installs ?

Are you sure ? Doomsday, the expansion of HOI2 doesn't
require the old HOI2 stuff. Doomsday is on its own.
I hoped Deus Vult Expansion was like DD in this respect.

That will require CK2, using the much-beloved 3D graphics engine from EU3.

Personally, I'd kill for CK2 instead of DV, but I'll take what I can get :D

Personally, I do not need a CK2 with new graphics engine. The 2d-map and the features of CK are still great and Deus Vult will be a fantastic improvement. The "personal relationship"-feature will give new life to the game, I'm sure!

I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but I thought of something that would be an excellent addition to Crusader Kings, which I would like to see in Deus Vult.

Perhaps an additional map overlay could be added, which shows the extent of different cultures? That way those of who like to spread our culture would have a convenient way to judge our progress.

Can we have a "Find Character" tool please, which would work for dead/living characters alike, and allow searching by last name alone? I really enjoy finding out who is related to whom about a 100 years into the game, or if there are still any survivors left of some particular dynasty that I'm interested in (say, the Komneni or the Bagratuni, if the Muslims kick them out), but they can be really hard to find.

Just curious, is there some new official info about DV available other than the stuff given in this thread? I don't check the CK forum that often :)

It's been a while since I visited here so I may have missed it (and apologise if I did) but has these few things been talked about?

- Capital changing
- Primary title changing
- The ability to check out characters who are realm-less

Also, can I ask if there would be relations points/ratings between characters as well?

Thanks!
