In 1066 the area between the Forth and the Tweed was a no-man's land. Lothian was effectively North Northumberland, populated by people of Anglo-Saxon descent, while Cumbria stretched to the other side and is believed to have been populated by peoples of Britonnic race (Welsh rather than Irish or Scottish). Vikings had also made their presense felt in the lowlands.

Very mixed bunch the lowland Scots.

This was all already made known and included in earlier culture mods. Lothian was made English/Anglo-Saxon, though I would personally rename the culture to Anglian (though English is fine too). Cumbria and Galloway are each made Welsh and Norwegian respectively, though again I would merge Norwegian with Danish and Swedish into Norse and Welsh with Cornish and Breton into Briton or Britonic.

Haven't played CK for some time now but I remember having some issues with it. There was some bug with the code or something as far as I can remember.

Actually there was a very specific protocal that was used for all living children, generally down to like 15 or so, for each gender. So you'd have to have say 16 living boys to actually just pick a name.
Which dynasty had this protocol? Where can I find out more about it?
Jinnai said:
or use dukes. i don't think CK even has room for 100 duchies on the map, and if it does, managing that large a realm should not be a simple click or 2.
It does have that much room. In my most recent power-game I had nearly 100 Duke-vassals, and could have hit 150 if I hadn't reserved dozens for my heir. Some of my other Duke-vassals had 4-5 Duke-titles, so I'd estimate the CK map has room for 250-300 Dukes.

Oh, your character screen only has room for 275 or so vassals. So a truly huge realm is almost impossible to manage without clicking on every vassal's CoA manually. Hopefully the ledger will fix that headache.

It would be nice if we didn't have portaits linked to culture...but without a new variable i can't see that happening...and then we would have to have a kind of portraits for mixed-bloods.

Still it would be nice to have some more variation between either arab/north afrianc darker skins and european light skins even if they are still tied to culture.

There are a couple of things that help, of course, and help both modes of play, but if you crash once per an hour or a couple in SP, you're guaranteed to have at least as much crashes per hour as there are players in MP.

I'd say lack of good MP at least halves CK popularity (and sales).
That is especially true considering that MP gaming is actually a sort of marketing - if one or two persons from a group of people who often play MP together try it MP and find it good, then the whole group is gonna want the game.

Personally I'd like an option where you could make it so that King titles are vassals of you. Perhaps give players with a certain amount of king titles the ability to proclaim themselves "Emperor"

Their primary King title then gets changed into an Emperor title. You could even make it so that it stays that way for a while (possibly with a mechanic to change it)

This Emperor could then give out King titles to vassals. It's a very simple mechanic which would solve the problem of both large amounts of vassals and also people wanting to make a particular Empire of Such and Such (insert Wales, Germany, what have you)

All I want in DV is:

1. Mongols have permanent Gavelkind. This fits with their historical setup and prevents them from becoming too powerful.
2. New cultures - Breton and Kurdish.
3. More noblemen taking up the cross (appearing in the courts of crusader states)
4. Cultures as similar or dissimilar, affecting loyalty of locals, likelihood of cultural conversion, and likelihood of kids going native. You could lump them into categories like Germanic, Romance, Ugric, Semitic, Slavic, etc.
5. Character trimmer included automatically - this is a big deal for those of us with Macs since we don't have one at the moment
6. Improved export to EU2 and/or EU3.

I suspect I'll get at least one of these things, any one of which would make it worth buying.

I agree with Finellach that the culture system isn't perfect. Like he said, Scandinavia doesn't need three Nordic cultures.

Saying Norwegians, Danes, Swedes, and Finns are all alike is probably the one thing that can get you beat up in these otherwise peaceful countries.

The game's creators live in Sweden and need to get home at night. Suggesting that a Swede is the same as a Dane would greatly upset the neighbors. As an analogy, try telling a New Yorker that he is the same as someone from Connecticut or New Jersey, or (God Forbid!) Pennsylvania or Massachusetts. They may speak the same language, and even carry the same passports, but otherwise they consider themselves as distinct breeds of men. Proximity does not breed similarity.

You want vassals not to revolt when your ruler dies, then take individual care with them, like any good ruler...

or use dukes. i don't think CK even has room for 100 duchies on the map, and if it does, managing that large a realm should not be a simple click or 2.

Forced tedium is bad game design.

If a large number of vassals is to be discouraged, then let their be diminishing returns on scutage or loyalty or troops, etc. etc.. But to make the game mechanics deliberately annoying to discourage certain behaviours on players parts is uncalled for in a game that is supposed to be fun.

A king should be able to tell his chancellor to bribe his vassals until they are happy, without micromanaging each gift, hundreds of times over.
