I guess I sounded a little mean, but it's good to play the way you like. I can never seem to do much inside my country, so I enjoy going to war and taking what I need. However, at least during the early game, I'd likely use a lot of points just to influence nations and control my SoI. Either way, during the first half of the game, I do a lot of waiting for diplomacy points. In fact, I spend at least 90% of my time at max speed, with important events on pause, just waiting for them.

You can beat China once you westernize, but it'll cost you dearly in industrial techs or manpower, because you will either lose a lot of soldier, or have to research tactics for quite a while.

releasing korea requires very low warscore, so you can play a very defensive war and end it quickly, much like the real 1895 conflict. Just sink their navies and ambush armies in korea and they come begging for peace.

Nothing actually directly affects detection chance, it's a set % per day
Then how come if you save and reload you consistently get detected about the same time?

Some nations I get detected almost right away, a few days or weeks, some other nations you easily can get past the 50% mark...

It also seems to have something to do with the kind of CB being generated or rather the amount of infamy it costs, lower infamy ones get further than high infamy ones... or is it just me??

Saving and reloading does not always result in you being detected at about the same time, I know, I did it when I refused to accept being detected on a conquest CB at 3% :p

Also drkpendragon, how do you use that many diplomacy points in war without exhausting your soldier pops?

Johan's answer and Darkrenown's addendum make perfect sense.

In fairness to being detected, your infamy gets prorated by the point at which you are detected. I've shaved 5 or more points off of ugly CBs like conquest, even though I was detected. The Holy Grail, though, is getting Nationalism and Imperialism early, and then manufacturing a Protectorate CB for free. :)

Any idea how to get these events? eg what are they and factors that increase their MTTH?
in events/CBgeneration.txt
after 10% of CB generation with a MTTH of 3 and must not have a cb modifier already, is modified by 0,8-1,2 depending on press rights, on both events, but reversed ( so free press lowers cb_gen_plus, but increase cb_gen_minus )

Speaking of, I only got half the infamy for Johore, I didn't get detected making protectorate in Bali, Yemen, so I got cocky, and decided to add Conquest on Oman hoping to at least run to the 50% of cost. Bam, detected on the 2nd day, 20 Infamy. I love the gamble. :)

So is saving and reloading until you get a series of 9 rolls in a completely crucial battle. IMO it´s the same as cheating, but every person is free to enjoy the game as they want. As long as they don´t brag about their huge empires in the Post your Empire thread heheh.

Yes, although doing that its quite time consuming.... anyway one of my critics of this game is the use of random factors that can have such huge consequences...

Big crucial battle, you roll a 9, you obliterate your opponent, all their regiments destroyed or as good as.... profit, you rank 1 probably pull of a WC.
You roll a 0, you get crushed, your opponent steam-roles you, forces you to accept huge concessions you get screwed for the rest of the game just trying to recover, you end up ranking among the uncivs...

I'd really like that there were more strategy than randomness to it...

I usually reload when I do something stupid, or something like that happens. Also like to play forward a little bit to see how thing come along or if a particular strategy works, and then reload back to "properly" implement it or change it altogether...

It's not fun when you get crushed because you misjudged some aspect of game mechanics (like invading Sweden without realizing they were Friendly with Russia and hordes of Russians steam-role you)
