Former French Foreign Legion sergeant. Trained for special ops. Believed to have been involved in various criminal activities ranging from mercenary activity to contract killings. Possible connections to various groups ranging from Russian Mafia to Colombian drug cartels . Recommend observation of subject.

Childhood
William Caldwell was born on 4th of July 1966 in New Lancaster, EUtopia. His father, James Caldwell was an office worker in
a local company, and his mother, Mary Caldwell was a secretary. The Caldwell family were ordinary middle class, and William
was the only child. William wasn't one of the best students in the school, but he got through it and got into high school.

Army and University
When William was 18 years old, he was conscripted into the Eutopian Army. William volunteered and was accepted to the Marine
regiment. There is not much to say about his time in the army. He performed well in the army, and was trained a reserve cor-
poral. When he was discharged, he went to Eutopia City university to study law, as his parents had wanted him to. During his
time in the university, he was more interested in partying and women than studying. After two years in the university, he
left from the university, because "studying law was damn boring", as he explained to his parents. His parents were shocked
because William had left the university. Couple of days after that he had a loud argument with his parents. After that, he
took a one-way flight to France and walked to a Foreign Legion recruiting office.

Foreign Legion
After leaving the university, William joined to the French Foreign Legion. He survived the rather harsh training of the Legion
well, and after his training was completed he was assigned to 2e Regiment Etranger de Parachutistesor the 2nd
Foreign Parachute Regiment, which acted as an airborne commando regiment. During his service in the Legion, Caldwell received
several commendations due to his skills and quick initiative. Howewer, he was also warned and punished several times because
of disobeying orders or showing ignorance towards superior officers.

Despite some of his unbeneficial qualities, Caldwell was sent to NCO training, where he graduated from as 3rd best of his
class. Immediately after graduation, Caldwell was assigned to a secret "black operations" unit in the Foreign Legion tasked
for covert missions. Details of his time in the "black ops" are classified.

After the Legion
In 1998 Caldwell was discharged from Foreign Legion service. Reasons of this are not known, but it may have possibly been
a dishonourable discharge. After his Foreign Legion resignment, he drifted around the world:Ibiza,Bahamas, Florida, Brazil,
Goa, Sydney, just hanging around and enjoying, doing whatever jobs there were for him. August 1988 was a turning point in
Caldwell's life. When in Bahamas, he met a man a named Juan Ivanovich Lebedev. Lebedev was working for Russian Mafia. He
made Caldwell and offer regarding a certain scientist in Switzerland. The scientist had developed something that the mafia
wanted. Soon after his meeting with Lebedev, Caldwell flew to Bern. A week after that, a certain scientist in Bern was found
dead in his laboratory, executed. Details of his research were stolen. Soon after the death of the scientist, Caldwell recei-
ved a payment of 2.500.000 million dollars. There is no clear evidence about Caldwell's involvement in the death of the sci-
entist, but some believe that these incidents cannot be coincidences.

After that, Caldwell travelled around the world, visiting several places during five years:Moscow, Lagos, Seoul, Delhi, Riyad,
and other places. Always when Caldwell was in these places, assasinations or other "incidents" happened there. Howewer, as
Caldwell used false passports and credit cards, no evidence of him ever being there was found. Many intelligence and securi-
ty services including MI5, MI6, CIA, SVR, FSB and DGSE have gathered dossiers on him.

Return
In 2004, Caldwell decided to quit and return to EUtopia. He had seen too much blood, too much death. Caldwell had enough
money to live a quiet life with a low profile, and he bought a bar in EUtopia City. Howewer, he still has fake passports
and other items involving his former job hidden just in case. He also still maintains some contacts with some of his old
"business partners", just for a bad day.

OOC:Gonna make a better one soon. And this is NOT given in IC. It would kinda hurt my RPing if everyone would know that Caldwell is a former contract killer

History

Early life:

Carlos Sean Robada was born the 3rd of 6 children to Marìa Robada, a sawmill worker and Santiago Hernan Robada, a logger in San Martin de Porres. Carlos attended pre-school and junior school til the age of 11. His childhood up to this point was fairly un-interesting and there is little to say about his family life other than that they lived in relative squalor, as was common in San Martin.

Teenage years:

Carlos' teenage life was much different. He dropped out of high school after the first year when his mother became too ill to work, dividing his time between caring for her and working as a logger with his father to pull in some more money to help the family. He was at his mothers bedside when she died of lung cancer, age 39. Carl was just 15.

After his mothers death things started to change rapidly in Carl's family life. His elder brother, César had broken through into the First team squad at RCD Espanyol, a Spanish football team. The money he was bringing in meant Carl could quit working and return to school, where he developed a keen interest in history and politics.

Soon after Carlos' 17th birthday, his younger brother, Javier, aged only 15, was shot in a gang raid in Capistrano. It is thought that Javier had been working part time at the social club for a Colombian drug cartel and was caught in crossfire when a rival drugs syndicate raided the club.

This profoundly affected Carl's life, and nearly inspired him to become a police officer, but being devoted to his studies, with his brother César's backing he relocated to Staffordshire in England, where he attended Keele University.

University:

During his time in University, where he studied a joint BA in History and International Relations he became heavily involved in Socialist movements and protests as well as other political pressure groups. His current political standpoint and alliegance is attributed to his time in University.

Coming towards the end of his second year in Keele, Carl received the news that, whilst visiting César to view a Spanish 'La Liga' match between Espanyol and Real Mallorca, Carlos's father, Santiago, was shot dead. He had mistakenly become involved in crowd trouble after the game when he left through the wrong gate out of the stadium, and was shot by a Mallorca fan, along with 3 other Espanyol supporters, two of whom were seriously injured. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Madrid hospital.

The loss of his father figure had a profound effect on Carl's studies. He took solace in his eldest brother, Christian, who became almost a second father to Carlos, despite living several thousand miles away in Dallas. Dragged back from the brink of failing the first semester of his third year, he passed his degree with a 2:1 Honours.

After university:

For a time he worked for the Eutopian consul in London, and, aged 24, applied for, and was granted a British citizenship. During his time at the consul Carl became engaged to a fellow Eutopian national and consul worker, Claire Danson, who was 2 years his junior. This relationship ended rather abruptly after 2 years, just a month before the marriage was due to occur. It is believed that the breakup of this relationship is Carl's reason for returning to Eutopia.

Carl returned to reside in the country of his birth recently, and being worried by the split off of the southern states, began to become involved in domestic local politics, attending demonstrations throughout Jacobia and occasionally in Eutopia City. It is believed that this prompted him to join the ESA.

Carl is currently working in a local publishing office as a PR officer, but is looking to move to Eutopia City to work in government or in the press.

{OOC: Damn that took a long time to write. Will be updated when necessary.}

Earl Andrew Alexander Andrews of St. Brendanstown

Earl Andrew Andrews is the latest in a long line of Earls of St. Brendanstown. The family has been very low key and had stayed out of politics since the end of WWII other than the help influence Eutopia’s return to the policy of isolationism. The death of the last monarch and the regency shook the family up. The beginning of the true republic rocked them to their core. Earl Andre Andrews, his father, has recently died, leaving the title and estates to his only son.

Andrew attended Oxford University in England and graduated with top honors in political science. Until his father’s last illness Andrew was heavily involved in the European noble society. Attending galas, art shows, as well as weddings, funerals, and typical social occasions. He has many friends and contacts throughout Europe and has even been to Buckingham Palace on more than one occasion. He attended the wedding of Diana and Charles as a young man, coming away very impressed with the whole idea of royalty.

For the first time in decades the Andrews family is leaving the shadows of isolation and entering the often blinding light of politics and the attention a public family is often subjected to. Andrew has a sister by the name of Andrea and his mother is still alive, although somewhat aged by the name of Althea.

Andrews is obviously well educated, well spoken, and dresses impeccably. Even when wearing jeans, he looks very good in them as they are designer, of course. One of his hobbies is fencing and he has competed successfully in many matches. He is six feet tall with a dimpled chin that is covered by a stylish Van Dyke beard. His piercing green eyes compliment his dark red hair that is worn long in a pony tail.

He has almost no freckles and oddly enough has a golden hue to his skin due to having a great tan. His ready smile showcases a full set of pearly white teeth that have never seen a cavity. He enjoys excellent health and weighs 170 pounds. He is extremely active in other sports such as golf, tennis, and polo. He’s played with some of the greats in each sport and is himself quite skilled.

Andrew believes a constitutional monarchy is the right choice for Eutopia. Based on the English style with a House of Lords, House of Commons, and a Prime Minister elected to handle the day to day operations of the nation. The right person for the throne of such a constitutional monarchy is Francesca Saxe-Gotha-Blade! For all those wanting the island reunited she is the obvious choice.

She is already the Queen of Tilapia. A reunification is possible. With her as Queen we would be a monarchy once more! We would also have a democratically elected government. The best of both worlds. Earl Andrew Andrews believes a constitutional monarchy will provide more stability than a regular republican government. A monarch is a sign of stability for the whole nation and a constant presence for the nation as a whole to rally behind regardless of whichever party controls the Diamond Office or the legislature.

This officer was unable to retain control of his command during the sucession crisis. It is to be noted, however, that the majority of his command was drawn from the local area. It is this reviewer's opinion that this failure should not further affect this officer's career.

Jean Saint Daere is a young man with a turbulent past and a challenging future.

The Saint Daere family is of Tilapian origin, oldest known ancestor is Murat Sa'yn Diir. The boy lost his parents at early age and was adopted by french colonist family in Nouvelle Anjou. When the colony was taken by the British in 1794. Murat, now a young man of 22 fled to France to join the revolution. Over the next two decades he made a rather impressive military career, first in the republican army and then in Napoleons personal guard. Influenced by the nationalistic wave of the revolution he accepted a more francophone identity and Sa'yn Diir became Saint Daere. After marriage to a generals daughter he accepted his wifes' demands and converted to catholicism. As Eutopia became independent Saint Daere returned to his ancestral home...

Jeans' early days were marked by the turbulent events in Eutopias recent history, but the one thing that had put him in the spotlight was a lost love. A false one. Just turned 18 and taking a holiday with his girlfriend to a popular Eutopian resort. Since his girlfriend had gone to see the sites alone he decided to take a stroll. And ended up seeing another man on his woman. No other than Edward IV. Without thinking he attacked his womans lover. This had dire consequences and Jean barely managed to flee Eutopia alive. He went into exile in Europe. Brugge, Belgium where he had some distant relatives. He later found out his 'girlfriend' was one of Edwards paid mistresses. This left a permanent mark on his character.

During his time in Brugge he focused on his education and has specialized in chocolate industry and economics. After returning to Eutopia he started a small business.

Jean believes in a better tommorow for Eutopia. He is a stout defender of the republic and hates the monarchy, the monarchists and the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha with a passion. Some wounds never heal.

Lamont Rashaad was born March 3rd, 1981. His mother's family were descendents of the A'rai Topan tribe, and her ancestor was the first delegate of her tribe to attend the National Topa Council. Lamont's father was a Belgian of noble birth who emmigrated to Eutopia against his family's wishes to pursue his passion as a baker. He opened up a bakery in Eutopia City, which did very poorly, but he was still well off enough to rescue a young Topan woman out of poverty and marry her before young Lamont (who she was by then pregnant with) was born.

From the start quite eccentric, Lamont was a shy and mischevious child in school. He recieved high marks for creativity and intelligence. When he was 9, his mother was killed in a rally for Topan rights, creating a bitterness and distrust towards government and authority. After this event, he lost his interest in his Topan heritage and began selling the roots used in ceremonies to kids in the nieghborhood. He also started pursuing an interest in the arts, and at age 15 read Nietzsche and Rimbaud. He also developed an interest in the social theories espoused by Marx, Kropotkin, and Bakunin.

His father was proud when Lamont was accepted ENU. There he met a whole new crowd, sympathetic to the plight of an aspiring Topan thinker and gentleman junkie. He joined the dissident intellectual movement, and began participating in campus demonstrations. Sadly, during this happy time for Lamont, his father was killed tragically when he was run over by a school bus. Since recently graduating, Lamont used his inheritance to open up a coffee house called the Beatnik Turtle, in honor of his father.

The Beatnik was immediately a success among counterculture types and even managed to draw quite a few others. It quickly became the nexus of the Eutopian psychedelic scene, attracting artists and bohemians. There was a scandal with Lamont over drug use, but he escaped charges and returned an icon of the underground, and he gained his nickname, "the Weatherman" for his radicalism.

Soon after these events Lamont founded the Six Kingdoms organization, a movement for Topan nationalism. Though criticized for being too radical, the Six Kingdoms recieved good publicity for hosting Topafest, a celebration of Topan history and heritage. The event was a great success, and drew a diverse audience.

Recently Lamont has taken Murmurandus' seat in the General Assembly and is serving as deputy minister of MESA. He is also Secretary of the ECL.

The history of the Jones-Julseau family.

George Jones was a british entreprenuer running trading operations on the Atlantic. He became known as one of the most sly and cunning business men during the American Civil War when he ran operations for both the South and North acheiving huge profits through arms and food trades. Unfortunately, his somewhat mischevious and apparently illegal schemes got him in trouble with the British legal system. He fled justice, emigrated to Eutopia where he settled in for good, becoming a prominent businessman in the Southern provinces.
The family lost it's English identity when George Jones' soul heir, his daughter Martha, married Jean Jacques Julseau, a 2nd generation Eutopian and financial advisor to the Jones family. Since then the house of Julseau has been active in their countries political and social life, spawning many well known (yet often controversial) soldiers, traders and polticians (last of which was Adam Jones Julseau). The Julseau's where often a stabilizing factor because of their dual heritage.
At present time the head of the dwindling family is John Paul Jones:)D), nephew of Adam Jones. He is about 35 years old and graduate of Naval Officer school. He views himself as a patriot with a conservative leaning and deplores the partitioning of Eutopia and the treatment of his beloved country in the international arena.

Background

Sir Augustus de Provolution was born July 20, 1969 at the Elizabethan Royal Hospital of Huntington City in the special wing to his parents Sir Edward Alexander de Provolution III (born 1948) and Theresa Bourgersville of the House Compton-Lyons-de Chevallier from French Aquitaine (born 1950).

Early childhood

Sir Augustus grew up in sheltered Castle Shadowcliff in the foothills outside Huntington Gloriana, as the sole heir to the de Provolution estates. From early age, he was mentored to take over the family fortunes, primarily in the construction, shipping and defense industry. However, his visionary father, Sir Edward Alexander III developed his family fortunes and estates into telecommunications, aerospace, information technology, biotechnology and the financial sector, and could do so as one of the three leading families of Gloriana, or the top ten families of the nation. The de Provolutions came along William the Conqueror to Britain in 1066, and quickly rose to become part of the British nobility, until the wrongful handling of an episode in the Napoleonic war forced the de Provolutions to transfer all their assets and family members in Eutopia. The de Provolutions had been successfully expanding their activity into war profiteering, fueling the Atlantic convoys during World War One and World War Two, and left an ethical question around the familys fortunes.
The marriage between Sir Augustus parents was arranged, and the couple still live retired together, although with a chill of civility and coldness.

This loveless upbringing made young Sir Augustus hone his intellectual and physical skills and became an adept equestrian, literate, linguist and mathematician from an early age. He quickly developed a taste for polo, golf and fox hunting, and entered boarding school as a homebred British nobleman.

However, corrupted by the lack of interest by his parents, he began to see opportunity wherever and whenever in the business world. He quickly became involved in his fathers businesses and was a key aspect in turning the family interest into information technology and aerospace, even buying up a stratospheric airplane in 1990 from a bankrupted Soviet State consortium.
His high school education was all private, with brought in tutors and mentors to Castle Shadowcliff of Upper Provolutia.

University, Family Internship and Tragedy

Enrolling in the Bachelor Degree program in Gloriana University, Eutopias second oldest university in 1990 in a program called B.Sc. Finance, Law, Politics and Strategy, he quickly learnt how to read world events for business purposes, supplying the Gulf War, the UN and NATO contingents to Yugoslavia and various black ops with mercenaries like Sandline International and so on in various African coup d'etats, he had amassed a fortune for his family by the age of 25, where he enrolled into the Witney University farther south in a Master of Science of Corporate Strategy. He graduated with Honors in 1997, and came just in time to speculate around the Asian Crisis 1998 and reinvest into networks and telecoms firms, forecasting broadband and cell phones with uncanny accuracy. He also interned with the World Bank in World Trade Center 2000-01, after 2 years service in Omnitrade Provolution Consortium, the new reorganized family conglomerate, modeled after Japanese Zaibatsu and Keiretsu role models. Having survived 911 in the Twin Towers, Sir de Provolution got increasingly paranoid of world events, and combined this paranoia with a desire to control these threats by combination of business and politics, reasserting his personal influence on a threatening environment.
Losing his father to mental illness following 911, and still being under the political influence of said father, Sir Augustus has a severe view on crime, terror and similar threats to his family integrity. With his father partly insane, Sir Augustus is now effectively in charge of OPC starting 1. October 2001.

Leading Role in Modern Eutopian Business

Following 2001, Sir Augustus has bought up several companies in Eutopia, assembled under the OPC umbrella, and is now a very competitive market leader in high risk markets, especially the turbulent ones impacted by poltical security risks. Even being a secret partner to General Poindexters Policy Analysis Market in the US, Sir Augustus had to concede to public policy interests groups, as well as the pressure from organizations like Transparency International and OECD Monitoring Committee.
Sior Augustus now runs a hard and decisive business profile, where ethics are handled by his PR team and legalist team.

What these teams cannot handle is handled by the OPC Security Organization.

The Sweerd Family has always played a rather big part in Eutopian History, especially then in modern politics. The first public known member of the Sweerd Family was Jacob Gustave Sweerd, the Sweerds had before him worked themselves up to the very top as a rich family. This mainly thanks to the Slavery affairs of Jacob's father, Adam Sweerd, not a very known man, but a man who controlled and made profits from a large part of the slavery affairs that passed through Eutopia, with both Eutopian and American slaves. Apart from that Adam Sweerd also seems to have made money on a Bank which he started in small scale on his home island Vile, but expanded to cover the northern, English Speaking, part of Eutopia.

Adam and his son Jacob was rather active in the Civil Wars of the 1830's concerning the slavery issue and through that the Family got bonds, if not that strong, to the Royal Throne. When ideas of democracy was spreading around Eutopia in the end of the 1840s The Sweerds first joined in, but changed their minds in the end of the process, probably in fear of loosing the small relation they had with the King. In the Democracy Debate of 1848 The Sweerds was on the Kings side, opposed to many other bank men who saw the good investment possibilities and career opportunities in a democracy. This led to the Monopoly of the Sweerd Bank in the Central District that lasted for 16 years, from 1848 to 1864.

The Sweerd Bank was now established on the market, and from the 1860s to the end of the century the family’s businesses really flourished. Investments where beginning to be made from foreign investors and the immigration was huge. During the end of the 19th century the Sweerd family became one of the top ten richest communities in the country.

The success kept going on into the 20th century, until the world was hit by the great depression. A lot of the Swerd family fortunes where lost into nowhere.

Eugene’s Great Grandfather, Gustave Sweerd, did however take care of the lack of founds in his very own special way. During the Second World War he bought Nazi Gold from Germany and co-operated with the Germans in many ways. Before the war he made large transactions to the German government and he actually meet with Adolph Hitler himself in 1937. During the war he kept an Anti-Semitic stance in the Assembly (Which he actually was a member of). He lost his seat in the assembly in 1942 although and fled the Country in 1944 after pressure from the Government and SAW to do so. He fled to Germany (Kiel) where he stayed until 2 months after the war when he continued to Ethiopia. There he lived his last years, and was wanted by the Eutopian Government and investigated by SAW until his death in 1964.

After the Second World War the Sweerd Bank, now led by Gustave's son, Eric Sweerd, got a hard time to recover. All loans to the German Government before the war was never repaid, at least not officially and not to the Bank itself. Money that Gustave Sweerd had received during the war and in form of Nazi-gold would however have covered the loans and also meant profit for the bank.

Officially the money was never returned to the Bank by Gustave Sweerd who most likely kept the money for Private purposes (presumably on a Swiss account), but rumours say that they where paid back in smaller sums during the years 1946-62, a anonymous source to a Eutopian newspaper at least says so in 1966, there are however no proofs except the fact that numerous experts says that the Bank impossible could have survived the bankruptcy it did without those money.

Eric did however get the Bank back on its feet and changed the scandalous name to the newer and fresher Orion Bank of Investment and Savings (OBIS) and by his retirement in 1986 the Bank had climbed itself up to be the third biggest in Eutopia.

In 1987 the Bank reformed into more of an investment company, The Sweerd Economical Corporation, in which the Orion Bank became a daughter company.

The Sweerd Economical Corporation has today 9 owners, all Children and Grandchildren of Eric Sweerd, and is part owner of many great Eutopian and foreign companies.

Earlier heritance of the Sweerds:

The Sweerds origins are traced back to 1554 when a young man named Kristern Jacobsson/Jacobssen Swerd arrived to Eutopia with an English ship. It is not fully determined where he came from, but that he was Nordic (from Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland) there is no doubt about. Kristern established his home on one of the islands in the north and was together with other Nordic immigrants on that boat founder of the Nordic Vile minority on the small islands.

Francis Von Hapsburg

Francis(Franz in German, Ferenc in Hungarian) von Hapsburg is a distant nephew of the present pretender to the throne of Austria, Otto von Hapsburg. Franzwas born in 1976, in Budapest, Hungary. Living in a Communist country, Francis was discouraged from flaunting his royal birth. His parents were Leopold and Zita Hapsburg. His father, a dedicated Marxist despite his lineage, was a senior member of the Communist Party and a collective manager, while his mother was an accountant in the hungarian Ministry of education.

Francis attended a school for children of Party members until the fall of Communism in 1991, when his family moved to Austria over the objections of his father. From 1993 to 1997, he attended Metternich College, known for its patronage of prominent aristocrats, and experienced a reawakening of his heritage as a Hapsburg. When he graduated with a law degree, Francis started a law practice in Vienna, which prospered. He married a fellow aristocrat, Anna d'Augustini, whodied along with his child in childbirth. Sinc then, he has always lived alone, and has willed his property to his nephew, Karl von Sternberg, an Austrian.

As a noveau riche, Francis decided to move to Eutopia, eager to live in a much sunnier climate than Austria, and currently lives a typical upper-middle-class life in Eutopia City.

von Hapsburg's history in Eutopia is a very short one. After gaining citizenship, he got involved with the Eutopian Monarchist League, but left after he disagreed with the leadership on the role of the common man. He gravitated for a while towards the paramilitary Chivalric Order of the Golden Dawn, then left to join the CUE.

As a member of the CUE, von Hapsburg ran for the Vice Presidency in the Term 11 elections, but lost much support for himself and his party after a series of embarassing speeches and interviews.

He became Deputy MDIS, but the only thing that he had the chance to do was to assign security for ENDTech in the wake of terrorist threats from a Latin seperatist group.

He then became MIDA, and envisioned a project of refurbishing the transport system. He also was reluctantly party to the arrest of prominent newspaperman Amric Al'Aeshir.

Jacques Alain Moreau-Dumont was born on the 22nd of April 1951 to a family of Franco-Eutopian Chocolatiers in Castries. They owned a small-time Chocolate Buisness, but were quite poor and had to work part-time to sustain themselves.

When Jacques was 21 and working in a Vineyard in St Espirit, his Father died of a heart attack and he was the owner of Moreau Master Chocolatiers (MMT) Ltd. He breathed new energy into the Company, and by the 80's it was by far the largest Chocolatiers in Eutopia, and even in France.

In the 90's, MMT expanded to become one of the largest (if not the largest) Chocolatiers in the world, and Jacques was a Millionare. But he never forgot his humble beginnings, and hated the frantic lifestyle of being a Modern Buisnessman, going back to the Vineyard he worked at when he was young and helping with the harvest.

When the Latin Nations secceeded, Jacques knew it was the start of liberty for the Franco-Eutopians in Nouvelle Aquitane and Nouvelle Anjou, and maybe a chance for Francophilles to become a major force in the world again.

He held very strong opinions about the Headscarf ban, beliving that the State had no right to make the Provinces decsisions for them, and this sparked an Idea that he could create a party that would empower the Franco-Eutopians and eventually lead to their liberty. The Coalition des Latins Démocratiques or the Coalition of Democratic Latins was born.

Id like to introduce my self, Iam Samuel Martinez, I was born in Indianapolis,Indiana in the United States and emmigrated to Eutopia to persue my dreams as a politician and politial activist, My name may suggest that Im Latin American but Im really Anglo American Im in no way related to the hispanic culture. Ever since I was 14 I dreamed of becoming the American "Lenin" and to bring Socialism to my fellow Americans but I realised that in a country deeply rooted in Capitalist ideals and that draws their views of Socialism from the bad examples in The Soviet Union and China I decided Id leave for Eutopia and realise my dreams there. So this is how I came to be in Eutopia.

Maybe Ill change my middle name to Lenin...

If any of you has not watched the Leonardo di Caprio and Tom Hanks film, “Catch Me If You Can” and doesn’t want significant plot details revealed, stop reading now, or simply skip the black text below start reading again where the text turns back to its normal white font.

The film is based on the true story of Frank Abignale Jr. who grew up in suburban New York, turning 16 in the early 1960’s. His father had served in the US army during WWII, fighting in France after D-Day. As the film is opening, he is experiencing financial difficulties leading to tax problems leading to jail time and divorce. His mother was French, a “war bride”. Leonardo di Caprio plays the son, who pretends to be Pan Am pilot to catch a free flight on another airline “deadheading”, and begins forging airline company checks. He gets really good at forgery, even buying a new technology at the time magnetic ink check encoding machine, so the worthless checks he wrote were sent to the wrong bank (on the wrong side of the country) before finally arriving at the correct bank and eventually being discovered, by the bank or the account holder, to be forgeries. By that time he was using another account.

He met a pretty candy striper (hospital volunteer nurses’ aide) at a hospital emergency room when he took a friend there who, having had too much to drink, had walked through a sliding glass door. To impress her, he decided to begin posing as a doctor. He forged an impressive diploma and resume and then applied for job beneath his supposed qualifications, as the doctor in charge of the graveyard shift. He was able to just preside over the other, more junior doctors. Of course, he continued to kite forged checks. The father of the candy striper was a prominent lawyer, a local District Attorney (DA). When he met the parents he said he also had a law degree, which was easy enough to forge. The father offered him a job as an assistant DA. This meant he had to pass the bar, by taking a cram course and studying hard, he was able to do so. Unfortunately the feds got wind of his location and raided the rehearsal dinner, with the main character escaping in a more theatrical way than he probably did in real life. He fled to France, to the town his mother came from, continued to do forgeries, was eventually caught and returned to the US to serve time, as his crimes in the US were bigger than those in France. I have based Loic de Fourgéres on a different ending, were he does some prison time in France instead.

So, learning from his experience, Loic (not his real name) decides that one really big forgery would be better than his old game. Combing through antique sales in France and England, he finds old claims to parts of Eutopia. The French claim was in the de Fourgéres family, which had died out, so he took on that surname. The English claim was never transferred to a French mortgagor, but the holder was in the family indicated by my posts. Loic bought old documents for the paper (so if you carbon date them they will be authenically antique, and took some wood from a really old structure, burnt it make carbon black which he used to make ink, so a test of the ink would pass as well. Obviously, he never thought that the court system here would completely non-functional, so he was obliged to improvise. Passing the bar (again) was in character, but being a opportunistic lawyer was also unprofitable because even legitimate cases supported by Newslink events don't get heard in Eutopia. Therefore Loic took a somewhat bigger risk, and forged the lease on the English claim, (He will say the lease on the French claim is up one year into term eleven.) because that didn't need to go through the courts. Of course, inactive president Amric, under advice from Tilly, did nothing.

Loic therefore concludes he can't currently use such means to get a big gain off of the Eutopian government, so in his latest attempt, he is trying to get an innocent document from the goverment here, which he would doctor and use to earn an commission of foreign firm. Lyonniase des Eaux is a well known French water company.

That was the situation at the close of term IX. One thing I forgot to mention about Loic's background is that he now looks a bit like his avatar. He grew the beard on the way to Eutopia, and dyes his hair dark. It was originally somewhere between light brown and blonde, but of course grey hairs now figure prominently in the mix, but they are dyed dark as well. As he is making some speeches, if someone from France sees him, he won't immediately seem to be the same person as he was.

When he was named MIDA, Loic began to feel uneasy about the attempted big scam, as he was doing well without having to forge anything. He didn't press his claims, but one of the last acts of John O'Floinn was to ask him for some details. Loic demurred, citing the possible appearance of impropriety if a serving cabinet officer were to be award significant tracks of government lands. Towards the end of Term X, specifically when Michael Lundgren, then the MERL, imposed a tarriff on Canadian wood imports, something that was clearly outside of the powers allocated to that office, Loic realized that the fact the the way government functioned in practice was not as written in the Constitution, and that with the legal system and checks and balances barely functioning, officials could do almost anything, and take care of getting it approved later, if necessary. Therefore, he had the highway acquisition trust established and bonds issued, so the toll roads could be bought back, as the GA would not pass the authorization. Certain other similar 'shortcuts' were taken early in his Presidential term.

In terms of game play, Fourgéres is pronounced "Forge-air", which is how someone with a French accent would pronounce "forger", so the clues are there for the post-mortem. Given his background, he will not be making state visits to France (where he served prison time) or the US (where he is still wanted in some very cold cases). Even with diplomatic immunity for foreign heads of state and his landslide election victory, he is not sure that his real identity being revealed would permit him to continue his freedom. He chafes a bit at the thought of not being able to suceed himself as president, although he considers that much of the Josephus presidency was just a 'regency' with him in charge, as Josephus followed almost all of of Loic's suggestions. His biggest current frustration is not being able to find active cabinet ministers to carry out the obvious work that needs to be done.
