I have noticed that detached fleets that are returning to port for repair will default to 'Fire at will' RoE. Am I missing a setting that tells them follow the RoE of the main fleet that they detached from? Is this a know issue that is being fixed/patched? This creates a large problem when weak ships in groups of 1 or 2 are returning to port for repair and they engage enemy fleets and get destroyed. These fleets/ships need to default to 'Hold Fire' or they will keep getting sunk. Any help or info?

Basically I have 2 small fleets of subs with 12 ships each, they are set to 'convoy raiding' with 'hold fire' active so that they do not engage warships and fleets and just attack convoys. I Also have 'split' on so when one sub gets damaged it returns to port by it self, instead of the whole fleet going to port, but when a sub splits off the detached sub returns to 'Fire at will' rule of engagement and will attack any battle fleet by it self while damaged and it is trying to return to port.

Has no one else had this problem? Am I missing a setting that tells detached fleets to 'hold fire'? The majority of my naval losses come from this. My single alone damaged ships returning for repair decides to engage a carrier battle group...instead of returning to port for repairs. My only solution is to stop using split...but maybe someone here knows something I do not.

I am fairly sure the exact opposite happens with me. I just got through with a Japanese game, had a difficulty turned way up. Unfortunately the USA was having their way with my fleets :( ... I lost that game. I did pay close attention to the retreating damaged ship stacks. They always defaulted to do not engage while my main fleets had fire at will active. I am not sure why your fleets are doing this. I wonder if this is just a sub only fleet problem. Could you test it out by adding some surface ships to your fleet and see if your retreating flotillas still default to fire at will?

Yes, I will test it out later today. You mentioned that your fleets are set to 'Fire at Will' mine are set to 'hold'. So I will try a few options with different fleets mixes of ships and RoE settings to see what happens.

I’ve never noticed this because I never paid close attention but this sounds like a huge issue.

Yes, even if you are able to catch the detached fleet in time to change its RoE, It is an unnecessary micro-management step. But there is no way to really keep track of it so...they mainly just get sunk.

I would have thought that detached fleets should really be auto assigned do not engage!

any chance of this being slipped in to a patch ;)

Yes, A patch/fix would be great. However as ArmChairAttila said, he is not having this problem so I will try to reproduce it with other fleets and RoE setting to find out. If any one else could confirm this behavior that would help. It is also worth noting that I do play a modded game(like many ppl) but none of the mods 'should' do this. I will also do the fleet test with vanilla.

It's been like that for me ever since the game came out. I've just gotten into the habit of "select fleet, click all ships to repair, scroll up, select detached fleet, click 'do not engage'".

So I ran the test last night. I tried different combination of fleets with both surface ships and subs, with both RoE and both vanilla and modded game. Every time a ship splits/detached it was set to 'Fire at will'.

Does the engagement status of detached fleets actually make a difference? Will the damaged ships actually try to engage the enemy, or does their "Repair yourself now" order supersede that?
