Hi all...
In my current game I am experimenting with a Sitzkrieg against the USA as Germany in the post-1945 era. It´s a nice setup actually, Germany and Japan control Eurasia and Africa, the US is the only enemy major country. With VH my IC is just about equal to US IC, but I have a lot of catching up to do. Currently there is a buildup phase which has Germany building mostly carriers, and, in analogy to the historical megalomanic plans, a slew of the most advanced battleships to try with CVLs against carrier navies.
Sadly the US hasn´t taken to the hint and has moved its production away from naval power projection and is shitting interceptors. Because of the spy-elimination bug (i.e. where it says "We found no spies" costing you a spy in some country) I could not follow US development until a quick nofog and a look at the ledger provided clarification - the US has 192 interceptors (!!!) while very moderate in every other field. So I want to know how I can get rid of those Ints. The first thing that comes to mind is nuking the major airbases on the eastcoast with v2-2s (strategic bombers can´t even get close before being shot down), but apparently, with the second-to-last nuke tech, this doesn´t destroy the airplanes, only puts them (I hope) at low strength. This is indeed useful for an invasion, but is there a way to get rid of them permanently without invasion? Will the final nuke tech destroy them? My nearest bases are in the bahamas and bermuda, where I have my major air base, with what I thought were enough turbojet fighters to attain temporary air superiority (an apparently measly 56).
Another question: can I somehow influence the US to build more ships? I want major naval engagements where the newly completed BB-IX Bismarck and others can kick the s*** out of the USN. Now all the KM manages to sink are 2-DD fleets from Venezuela. Hmmph.
Last question, on taking islands: The US has established itself on Ceylon with a meager 7 units in each of the two provinces. I can´t really get at them since it´s mountain and jungle and I don´t have any marines yet, but I don´t want to waste a nuke on it. Will massive strategic and tactical bombardment do the trick, or need I get my battleships from Portugal and rely on shore bombardment (I have only 6 at the moment but that should have an influence, no?). Also, can carriers do effective shore bombardment?
