I believe I already know the answer but I just wanted to verify. As Italy/Germany I saw that GB had 4 air wings at Malta. I launched successful runway cratering ops against Malta's 4 factor airfield and it's red. I believe this is the extent of any damage I can do the GB air units based there correct? Or would switching to "Ground Attack" eventually destroy them (there are two GB ground units there)?

Follow-on question/observation: Is air combat the only way Ftr/Int air units can gain experience? If this true I don't get it. Surely several months of daily air superiority missions would raise experience just by virtue of pilots constantly flying.

You can only destroy air units in the air (unless you invade the province and catch the planes on the ground with your troops).

Reducing teh airfield to 0 with cratering missions makes it basically impossible for your opponent to repair/reinforce/re-org his planes. So if you use a combination of air superiority and runway cratering, his planes will basically be on the ground alot. Then you can safely run interdiction and ground attack missions in preperation for an invasion.

As far as I know, air commanders only get experience when their planes are engaged in combat. Of course, fighters CAN run ground attack missions.....

INT are stuck with air combat only.
