Destroy base missions - it's all over but the crying option needed

Several times I have had a base destroy mission in which I kill all the bad guys (and turrets) before hitting the buildings.

At that point, it is cumbersome to have to run around shooting buildings. The mission is essentially over - it's only some mindless mouse clicking.

It would be much more fun to have an option to just wipe out the base and end the mission at this point. TThen back to the fun bits!

Not a bad suggestion, though I think it would be even more entertaining to see another lance drop on you if you don't get it destroyed quick enough ;) Maybe just Vehicles to keep people from exploiting it.

What was really sad for me one time, was having just 1 surviving 'Mech with just a small laser in its head left. Wish I could've meleed the buildings at least :p

There is also the possibility that the pplayerhas dropped entirely with ammo dependent weapons and runs out of ammo fighting the opfor and turrets. Without being able to melee buildings, this becomes a mission failure.

Yup, if it wasn't for that 1 small laser, this is exactly what my fate would have been. I blew through all the ammo for the other weapons :(

And it should be a mission failure if the player didn't ammo.

Personally, i would really like to see more missiins where you are working against the clock (like arty or base defense) or against reinforcements which would be too much for the player to handle. Like if you let the mission run so long, reinforcements come which increase the stated mission difficulty by a .5 or 1 skull. Then you really have to maximize your moves efficiency and play with much more thinking ahead.

I've tried going all cash payment and doing a hit and run for the base destruction missions, but it always ends with the evac point being on the other side of the base so I have to kill everything anyway. May as well be a regular battle mission with some turrets thrown in.

I'm yes and no with this.

I sort of see your point, but beyond the tactics, Battletech has always appealed on a visceral level where we love to see walking tanks blow the crap out of stuff.

So I regard that basic level thrill as something that overrules any 'mindless' mouse clicking. Plus, the game physics are good enough that it's fun to watch taller buildings pancake and go down in a debris cloud. Once the defending mechs and turrets are gone, the base knockdown is a bit anticlimactic, but still fun.

I have dreams... based on a target acquisition flashpoint mission, you know the one, where they want a steiner scout lance to send an impression.

Or from the campaign going to the SLDF castle... each round more unleashed...

Only it's Urbies. Every variation of Urbie, and they just keep advancing, 2 tiles at a time. slowly clomping and stomping and firing away and every turn, more come out the gates... and it's just this never ending river of Urbies comin at you as you're yelling for Sumire to hurry up and land now now NOW!
