What if we merged Portugal with Poland or Austria? Hive would have to pretend he was two countries, not a united empire like the Hapsburgs, and it could cause complications like Portugal using Poland's MP to invade England. But perhaps it could work. At least BiB's attention span wouldn't be constantly stretched so far, and Aus-Port never have conflicting interests, which isn't always the case with Spa-Aus.


I feel like I would be wasting my time if I played Austria again; I seem to always end up playing it. I think my doing so here wouldn't make our situation much better also, since we would just need to find a Dutch player after that. That is, unless finding a Holland perm is easier than one for Austria. But even if that is true, it would seem a little unfair for me to move so that another guy can take Holland.

There's hardly a basis for merging those sort of nations though, Spain and Austria actually did have such a historical link. I also don't see how a POR-AUS nation would have a less stretched attention span than a SPA-AUS one. And I already said I don't mind it stretched at all

I seem to always end up playing Spain but then I like it Actually I do know someone who wants to play the Dutch, he just dislikes land nation so he won't play Austria, so a Dutch player is no concern. For that matter, my plan with Holland unless it is absolutely a trustworthy catholic vassal will be swift annexation so I don't know whether you really want to play those

I'm sure you would do a good job, and it would certinly work out in the end.
But Austrias roll is indeed very importent, therefore it is of course preferable to have them played. Thats what i think we should focus on now till saturday, and keep this Habsburg empire idea as a stand in alternative till then.

Also on another note.

I can do full sessions, but I can only do 19:00 till 23:00. Going past that time isn't really good for me. And if we change times, I do need to know more then half an hour before start time.

And I would like to play as Austria, because then I can complain at BiB for not giving Ferdinand more resources.

This merge idea is one of the best things that has happened to this game!

Heh. Well that would be... weird. From a historical point of view, it would be totally wacked. But of course, some RP background story with an inheritance could be made for the occation.

I'm not exactly eager to do this, but I could do it. I still think BiB controlling both Habsburg nations would make more sense - but I'd prefer almost any merging solution as opposed to running a nation AI or subbed for the rest of the game...

Good point, it would be tough as a naval country. As for historical/RP problems, my thought was that you could pretend to be playing two unconnected countries. It might be a little difficult, but could be fun too.

Well I wouldn't mind a merger. But if you want me to merge with someone else, I'd rather you gave me Venice.

I would gladly do so, but BiB told me to think on the good for the game, not good for me: would Russia-Brandenburg border on Vistual River in 1570 be good for the game?

If merged, I will play and alter my strategy to suit such a united Empire, re-establishment later is not an option in that case.

I can do this merge now also only because I haven't gone down a strategic path that would be averse to such a merge.

Had I been fully naval by now, I wouldn't do it for obvious reasons.

A united Habsburg empire would help your cause that is the struggle to break free as the Netherlands though. With many more things to keep an eye on, the historical situation in which the Dutch could break free because Spain was distracted all the time on so many other fronts, could perhaps maybe occur.

John, I can confirm BiB is capable and ready to do it

So, either accept beeing a Catholic vassal (for some time?), which means all Spanish Lowlands (now 6 provinces), or get some really good allies to deffend you, DOW will folow as soon as we load the game

Reading the posts so far, I come to this conclusion:

• King John plays the Netherlands. He signed up for that country and wants to play them, not another country.
• King John needs to mentally prepare himself to either be a catholic vassal of Spain or face the possibility of being annexed by Spain if he wants to be reformed
• Robertus is not unhappy with Poland, so he can stay Poland. I prefer players staying in the same country, if possible. This is also better because Robertus needs to quit at 23:00 and the game suffers less from a Poland-player who has to quit a bit earlier than an Austria-player.
  Rob, if you utterly fail and become annexed, you at least can pat yourself on the shoulder that you reached a historical outcome

So, let's focus on trying to find a new perm for Austria. If this is not going to succeed before Saturday midday, then I will start the merging progress of Spain with Austria. It will take some time, hence the deadline.

Let the deal stand for now, untill I talk to the new player for England. If we find one, it looks like we are in a SERIOUS problems.
