Okay. BiB has refused to play the merged Austria-Spain monstrosity and my last hope to play a perm Austria has refused too. so King John will sub Austria next session.

I think a merged Spain-Austria is a bad idea, i pity whomever play such nation
I think we all should focus on getting a new perm player for Austria instead, and possibly convince KJ to take over them as a perm.
Some cookies for Austria might be necessary.

Well, that's just the problem, we have been focusing on getting a new good perm for Austria, it's just that nothing is coming from it. I'd rather have KJ play Austria too really. But if we can't find a perm, then we need to look for alternative solutions.

Seriously, I agree getting a new perm would be far the best option, but if not, we ought to consider this merge.
Historically, there is not a real problem with it. BiB says he can manage it, so that's good too.

Before we agree we should hear something about HOW it would be done, WHAT would be done and what kind of policy this Habsburg Empire would start with.
FAL made a quick testsave with Spain having inherited Austria and it's a bit of a letdown really I get like a few percent extra income and my manpower goes from 76 to 114 (though I do have bad relations with the electors because of the inheritance). Hardly a monstrous behemoth, does look mighty impressive on a map though

It is doable, especially since I already have a custom event file for Spain.
I will upload a test save soon, then you can all check it out. (will be without leaders and events, just to check ingame effects of income, manpower and so on)

I, on the other hand, would hardly consider annexing France as something that has a place in a game like this so there's hardly much to fear in that direction from me

We try to find a good, reliable, perm for Austria this week. If this fails Spain will inherit Austria and BiB will roleplay them as one country. The idea is that Carlos decided to let Felipe inherit the whole bunch, because Ferdinand clearly has done a bad job in Austria!
BiB agrees to fight limited wars and such to keep things balanced.
You can all download the test-merge here.
If some of you really have a good reason why not to do it, list it here. Please bear in mind that the alternative is Austria being subbed or even ending up as AI, if we do not find a perm.
