It's unbalancing for two reasons:
1. Bavaria, whom you introduced as a somewhat equal to Brandenburg, will be worth nothing in comparison.

Exaggerating is an art too. Some of those events are only happening after the 30-years war, the time Brandenburg raised to power.
But I will consider the events happening before the 30-years war.

2. Once/if Brandenburg becomes Prussia and obtains many new provinces, the extra manpower will be felt... and imagine what happens if he even succeeds in becoming Germany later...

Considering Germany was able to rock the whole continent when unified, I would think it's justified.

The Treaty of Madeira

The honourable king of Portugal had invited the equally glorious kings of England and Spain to his summer residence on Madeira, in order to discuss English and Spanish trespassing in Africa.

After numerous bottles of juicy Madeira wine, the following was agreed:

- England will cede Louga (801) to the crown of Portugal.
- Spain will cede Tassaret (804) to the crown of Portugal.
- Portugal will give England 150d as a gift to help cover some of the expenses for their excellent missionary efforts in suppressing the lutherian plige.

Signed, João III of Portugal.

The switch of Tassaret from Spain to Portugal to Spain is just a rectification of a bug in the game engine, nobody think we just give away provinces like that! :D

And there was me, good old Henri, planning to invite Carlos to drink a few bottles of wine and discuss some territorial changes :D

but the manpower

If you read about the tyw you will see bavaria played a MUCH bigger part than brandenburg. At one point they had to take over completly from austria who was exausted.

Ill speak to you on ICQ about this as i think its more appropriate though. Remember though that i actually suggested brand get a cc before kshar even joined. I didnt do this though expecting such treatment he is getting.

Also, i know this is only second session and 1st mission so its too early to judge.

The Bank of Sevilla

Many nations have already taken out loans from this great new bank. It has the most reserves and can hand out large loans. Regular clients who prove to be trustworthy and pay back their loans will get decreased rates but of course as you will no doubt understand we must be careful with first timers. Though we very well like using the acquired CB to collect on defaulted loans, we'd rather save us the trouble.

A latest roundup from the bank:

Venice as a loyal customer took out multiple smal loans who were all duly repaid and have already been enjoying good customer intrest rates.

England has taken out multiple midsize loans sofar and seems to be a trustworthy backer of its promises and will qualify for reduced intrest rates from now on if it so desires.

Poland has taken out its first midsized loand which is still running, we hope for a swift repayment so they too can enjoy reduced rates.

Sweden did not repay its loan and will not get anotehr loan untill compensation for this has been received (OOC: I didn't and collect as it was AI at the time)

Get your starter loan kit of 500 at 5% over 240 months here, sign up now!

(OOC as an RP measure in this game, I do not hand out gifts at all, it was an age of loans, but I will be happy to send you a loan)

EDIT: IF a loan can't be repaid in full or such, we are happy to work out an alternative repayment scheme, don't worry, teh bankers are in it to make money, not wage war!

well, shouldn`t Spain fight against infidels first century instead of giving loans to two protestants for their conversions most probably ?

The Treaty of Tunis

After 5 excruciating years of warfare between the Kingdom of Spain and the Ottoman Empire in Northern Africa over Northern Africa, the conflict there has reached a stalemate. The bright, new Spanish leader, the Duke of Alva went out to meet with the wise Sultan in the name of the glorious Holy Roman Emperor Carlos. Honours were exchanged and peace negotiations started. Fighting on was deemed pointless and matters were solved at the bargaining table.

- Spain accepts the annexation of Algeria as Ottoman lands.
- The Ottoman Empire accepts the annexation of Morocco, including Oran, as Iberian lands.
- Spain will pay 400 ducats to chip in for the tasty catering of the peace talks the Ottomans so lavishly provided.

Which 2 protestants? England is and always has been catholic. For that matter England used those loans to convert all lutherans in its realm. A worthy cause inderdeed. Sweden may be protestant now but when the loan transaction was carried out Sweden was firmly catholic and used that money to send out missionaries too (one was succesful, see Catholic Finland). They converted way after that. A sad thing really, but a far cry from Spain giving loans to protestants as has been claimed!

Bavaria hearby makes its claim on the title of koln. Our lord is the rightful heir to these lands and so we ask the emperor to release them from his vassalage.

King Henri II of France would like to take a 1000 ducat loan from the bank of Sevilla. Is that possible?

The bankers think the King would not object to them giving a loan to a catholic king that hasn't been an enemy in decennia. He is wary of the situation with heretics in France though ...

So, Spain is defeated, now it's Venice's turn :(

I can't but to notice how Venetian alliance is just PERFECT for the simulation of Lepanto  . Venetian, Papal and Genoan forces... Sadly, with AI "capabilities" I think I will leave my allies out of it. Really, a shame :( , but nice to see such a PERFECT setup occuring and without any interventions from GM :)

Some data on battle of Lepanto:

The coalition fleet consisted of 206 galleys and 6 galleasses, and was ably commanded by Don John of Austria (Don Juan). Galleys were contributed by the various Christian factions: 108 Venetian galleys and 6 Venetian galleasses, 13 from Habsburg Spain, 30 from Habsburg Naples, 6 from Habsburg Sicily, 3 from Genoa, 3 from Savoy, 3 from Malta, 12 Papal ships and 28 privately owned galleys.
Ali Pacha (Ali Pasha), supported by the buccaneers Chulouk Bey of Alexandria (also called Scirocco, Mehmet Shuluk or Suluk Pasha) and Uluj Ali (also known as Uluch Ali or Kilitch Ali), was at the head of approximately 220-230 galleys, 50-60 galliots and some smaller vessels belonging to the Ottomans.

OOC: Well I am away from my home computer for a few days, but never fear! Send me PM messages and I will get back to you. I already have several things I want to get sorted out anyway.

Also on the subject of the Spanish Loan, we would like to pay it back earlier if we could.

Do we have a Swedish player? It's really hard to hold of an agressive Russian player with large manpower reserves if he has no Sweden to worry about. Or at least keep some troops at the Swedish border.

Fal, could you send me a pm message telling me how much cash I have in my treasury? And finally, Is there a map for the end of the session lurking about?
