Desires Better Alliance?

So playing as an Irish Duke (Duke of Meath, Duke of Leinster) with four counties and an earl as a vassal, the most powerful lord in Ireland, trying to marry my firstborn daughter to Irish earls, I constantly get the 'Desires Better Alliance' negative at -5, even when they have a high opinion of my character.

I admit that there might be a good reason for this that I haven't figured out, but considering I was able to, a generation back, betroth and marry my late-born daughter to the King of France as nothing but an independant count, it strikes me as odd.

It's becoming frustrating because I can't seem to make use of the alliance system with any of the Irish lords, and it doesn't explain why they don't think that the most powerful duke in Ireland wouldn't make a good ally?

Can someone shed some light on this?

Yes I'm finding this irritating also. Especially when you're trying to marry someone for an alliance or inheritance and can't because they 'desire better alliance'. If you check the character you wanted to marry later, you'll mostly see them married to some random nobody. I guess this is because the AI also can't find anyone to marry because 'desires better alliance' and therefore also has to marry random nobodies.
