Oh gawd no! I play to CREATE. So many other improvements/additions that could've been implemented rather than this. At this point based on initial info I'll pass on buying this

Keep cool, I can imagine many people wanted this. And you can switch disasters off so no problem here it's just like in SimCity 4.

Anyway I have to agree that there would be many features much better for city BUILDERS. I know CO see Sim City 4 as their shining example for Cities Skylines.
After Natural Disasters CO please give yourself a go and change how the demand system works. What this game needs is a better simulation of the Cims. There should be different demand for the different wealth levels. This should make it impossible to bring all buildings to level 5 ( or level 3 in terms of commercial and offices). And Higher buildings should be somewhat linked to the inhabitants and services you have in your City. So no villages with skyscrapers anymore ;)

and if disasters, then take realistic disasters, with the water simulation you could do floods and things like that. But what we probably get is some unrealistic stuff as already seen in the announcent - comets, aliens, zombies...

So how many cities in the last 500 years got destroyed by an meteor ? Or how many cities where destoyed by some cannibalism maniacs ?
Rain/floods, thunder storms, hurricane, tornados are most common disasters, but they don't destroy your city only producing more or less damage. Then rarely we have earthquakes. Two times so far a kernel melting nuclear power plant - but this have real disaster character. Volcanos - not really. Fires that spread through the whole city, practically don't exist anymore.

And as many people say, they want create something and not destroy.
So I really don't see how disasters fit well in game world of Cities Skyline.

You're right many players asked for this, not me, but others want it. That's OK by me. Once again they're listening to the community.

And you can switch disasters off so no problem here it's just like in SimCity 4.

I didn't see this in the announcement, but I'm sure you're right. Just like you can turn off the Day/Night cycle and Dynamic Weather, I'm sure we'll be able to turn it off.

I know CO see Sim City 4 as their shining example for Cities Skylines.

I'm not sure I agree with you here. I'm pretty sure their design vision was to enable players to build huge, utopian cities with high rises everywhere, where everybody is highly educated, happy, and never sick - utopia. SC4 was nothing like this which is why so many players of that game are disappointed with this game.

Agree with this 100%, but I don't think it will ever happen. Right now there's no wealth in the game. A highly educated and happy cim who shovels **** ( manure) at Phil's Fields lives in a high level house next door to an equally highly educated and happy cim who works in a hospital or university. Unrealistic, yes but the game is based on happiness not wealth and they would have to re-write an awful lot of the existing game to implement it. I hope I'm wrong about this, but I think not.

There is the Control Building Level Up mod that allows you to stop both individual buildings and districts from leveling up. So even if we never see wealth levels in the game, we can control the size and levels of buildings

They said it in the livestream that you can switch all disasters off. So it's confirmed information ;)

And about Sim City 4 there is an interview on the german forum "Spielerheim" with Mariina:

Translation: We are not done yet " Was the core set of Mariina , CEO of Colossal Order . She said that they primarily oriented on SimCity 4 and this game is a role model for them.

So there is at least some hope we get a proper wealth and demand system in Skylines some day. The game really needs that because then it would be by far the best city builder ever created.

I know Control Building Level Up and use it extensively however a real simulation approach would be awesome.

I for one really didn't want disasters. I want even less to have to turn them off after paying for them. Hopefully there is something in this DLC that actually improves the simulation or add some other meaningful aspect to the game. We still have a few months to see I guess.

Actually it wasn´t many years ago that a meteor fell into Russia and made damage to a city... It didn´t hit it directly, but shattered numerous windows and a few buildings... So not that unrealistic :)

CO won't get my money with this gimmick DLC which is certainly filled with annoying bugs just like the previous DLCs unless it features realistic disasters such as school shooting, muslim attacks and mass murder.

They could even add a "gun restriction" and "allow syrian immigrations" to raise the chances of these disasters getting triggered.

there is no syrians in this game. there's only generic Cims.....so that wouldn't work.

Volcano eruptions happen regularly and are destroying (at least part of) cities. Just maybe not in major places. An interesting example that could be a school case for CSL is the 1973 eruption in Heimaey, Iceland .

Volcano eruptions happen regularly and are destroying (at least part of) cities. Just maybe not in major places. An interesting example that could be a school case for CSL is the 1973 eruption in Heimaey, Iceland .
Or the more recent vulcanic eruption, that didn´t destroy any cities, but restricted air travelling hugely
