For a start ... "gdp" is not a command to be found in the DH events commands file.

I'd take a look at the event_commands.txt file in the C:\DH\modding documentation folder... and compare stuff.

No, I added that. But yea, the description seems a little too long. Maybe if you removed it entirely... Just to see if is the problem.
That, or you forgot to add a "save_date = yes" in the event 2006008.
Descriptions can be a maximum of 511 characters long, as far as i recall. So the limit should not be a problem here.

Have you a flag/shield named "shield_ger_u08.bmp" inside your gfx/map folders?
Added shield_ger_U08 pic to shields folder and flag_ger_U08 and icon_ger_U08 to flags folder.
Didn't change event and now it causes the flag to change to the nazi one!

So, it's probably a quest of name the file correctly...
Even doing this, i still can't get it to work! i'll keep trying, thanks for the help!

got it to work in everything except the counters! changed the flag, icon and shield files to flag_ger_imp, shield_ger_imp and icon_ger_imp.
the event now reads command = { type = flag_ext where = GER which = "_imp" }
The flag changes correctly for everything except the icons on the unit counters! can't work it out!
