So, as the vote was won by 2-0 for Denmark, the next AAR shall feature the Scandinavian nation.
House rules: Not much, only a few:
-Must convert to Protestant. Must not accept peace for conversion.
-No WC. I hate 'em.
-Act like a nation could act in real life. So for example, nothing like attacking France Spain and England at once and trying to survive. If the game gets too easy, this may be broken.
-The last years will end like Austria's saga ended: you will decide what should I try to accomplish.
There.

And the game starts!!

1492-1501:

-Can I have a report, please?- Hans, the king, was walking around the room. Last night, he dreamed that Denmark will be the greatest power in Scandinavia, and a colonial power as well. Being the ambitious man he is, he decided that he will try to make this dream true. But for this, he needed a report. Yes, he probably would have preferred dreaming on, but...
-Yes, sir. We have 100 gold in our treasury. We have two vassals, Holstein and Sweden, but Sweden looks like he would cancel it in any moment. Our monthly income, or rather, loss, is 6 Ducats.
-We're negative?
-Yes, sir. Apparently, the Tax Collector Rebellion was successful last year, we have no trained bailiffs. Also, our army numbers a big amount, but we need to pay them this way. May I suggest disbanding some armies?
-You may suggest everything, Östen.
-Very funny, sir. Also, we're diplomatically screwed. We are not only without allies, but we have no diplomats and it would take a campaign to get some. But by that time, the bigger powers may go to other alliances.

I could tell the whole report, but the thing is, Denmark was not for playing either. (Except the eras specifically for them-Great Northern War for example.) The first years were boring, except a few events. Russia was attacked by Poland and we took Danzig. But we dind't get to keep it, for the bastards backed out with a white peace. Russia is #1 in VPs currently. By 1501 all provinces have bailiffs, or are colonies (and we get no colonists yet)

1505:

Hans, the king was doing something strange. He was 1) hurrying 2)towards the docks, 3) without any escort and 4) was not currently thinking of an united Scandinavia. It turned out that a brave fella announced that he is an explorer, and that he is willing to explore new territories for the glory of Denmark.

Which means... yay! This guy pops up in Trondelag, brings a colonist and changes the game. Here's how it goes. First we detach some ships from the main fleet, and we also merge it with a fleet from "Enthusianism for Navy" gotten earlier. Then the explorer is sent into... Iceland! The island is but a colony, but it already has a port, and so will be the base of explorations now.

1506-1509:

And here's what are our new discoveries.
1506: We have luck, we managed to discover a province "on the run", I mean, without an army to move in. It's Wabana, a province from the island, that I don't know what's its name, but it also has Gander and Placentia, it has no natives. Newfoundland? Anyway, we use up the colonist that came with the explorer. Of course, we make a trading post-if we want a province, we cannot afford to fail (70% TP, 56% colony)
1507: Not really a discovery, but we manage to trade maps with Russia, our allies, getting us maps about Siberia.
1509: We discover Hudson Bay, also in game terms. +10 VP. Yay! We also discover Nain just like we discovered Wabana, but we haven't got colonists. Maybe when we will be Protestant.

1510:

And the alliance expires! We've been waiting for this. We are now the leaders of the Alliance. Russia and Ryazan gets back into the alliance; Crimea is useless and so we leave them out, and Pskov is a vassal so he can't be invited (yeah, we ruined Russia's chances to grab Pskov as long as we lead the alliance, but what do we care, they may even get an inherit event).

And here are our screenshots. The first is about Europe. Navarra grabbed Calais, Britanny is still independent, Habsburgs owned Turkey, and vassalised Hungary (whoa! They are learning from me), and Scotland took the first step against England.
ScreenSave36.jpg

And welcome our discoveries. Wabana is ours, while there is a province that's probably controlled by England.

Nice to see you start your Danish adventure. Although the start was a little slow and boring, you had luck when you got that explorer and it is very nice to see that you have managed to explore and already get a trading post. Nice work :)

Lot of events here:

1511:

What is a dream if it doesn't come true? It happens very often, but apparently Hans wants to prove the opposite, as he tries to take the first step towards being a Scandinavian ruler. Stockholm greeted a Danish ambassador, who handed in the declaration of war. The people thought that there was no reason for the war-maybe they're right...
We take the -2 stabhit for CB lack and -1 for both being Catholics... seriously, WHO THE CRAP CARES? We order the Danish armies to lay siege to Smäland and Västergotland, while 1000 cavalry rides to Lappland. (Shortest war EVAR) Timeline:
1511 Jan: Sieges started. We're behind by one tech, and Hemming G. comes to teach us a lesson.
1511 April: Apparently the Swedish leader is real good, he lifts the Smäland siege. Then Sweden decides to offer us Lappland. We accept. Now you wonder why I took an useless colony: the reasons are here.
1) I just realised that a 40k army led by a capable Swedish general would just about ruin the war, and we couldn't win it if we tried. We just had luck.
2) I lost too few lifes to make it worthless.
3) Lappland is not useless, it has 500 peaceful natives to incorporate, and it produces Metal, which could be useful later for weapon manufactories. When I'll turn Protestant... Sweden beware!

1513:

The King is dead! Long Live the King! Though he didn't, he just partied so much, he got drunk and fell on a knife. And died. Because of this the Danish Royal Council took the lead while the new king is still growing up.

I dunno with you, but two times-once before the CTD and once after-I got the king and it died a few days later, ingame days I mean. whatever.

1516-17:

Big news, a man called Martin Luther visited the country. He started talking about a new religion-the council dismissed it as a heresy, until Luther pointed out how corrupt Catholicism already is because of the powerhungry Pope, and his stupid religional ways. This caused heavy debates, but just about everyone started to believe in this new faith. The Council decided to do something good for the people and declared that the new state religion will be Protestantism. Catholicism is still to be tolerated though. The internal structure of Denmark was very unstable right now, but what the Council feared didn't come: there were no rebellions.

So we converted to Protestantism. Holstein broke vassalage... who cares? I have another plan for... you will see. (Or maybe you know already?) Sadly Bülow, the explorer didn't get to know this news: he died just as he started another voyage to uncover new shores. He was buried on the shores of his latest discovery, the place that's not yet discovered, but is rumored to be called something like... Isle Royale? The Danish king heard some rumors about the isle, where a strange "bug" lives that infects the "population"... hm.

1519:

We got another Swedish war. We dismissed it by taking the capital and extracting 250 money. Lappland became a city, now we plan to expand our colony in Newfoundland, then new lands await!

1520-1529:

Boooooooring...

1530:

The first stage of the plan in action! A declaration is handed in to the Polish king, and his allies Sweden, England and Holstein. Sweden and Holstein talk themselves out though... and England too, since in a clever move, the English were bribed beforehand. (Not actually, but we paid them off quick.) Russia and Ryazan both come to war on our side. A 30000 army is shipped to Danzig, under the command of a Johan Rantzau.

Timeline:

1530: Danzig is sieged.
1531 March-October: A successful period for the Russians. Meanwhile Danzig is taken and a Danish garrison comes into Danzig to guard the fort. The army advances into Mazovia, to besiege the capital.
'31 November: A Polish army comes to retake Danzig by storm, and then marches away. Is this an insult, to neglect us? Whatever. We capture the capital and move back to get Danzig once more.
'32-'34 November: We get Danzig, then the circle gets replayed once again. Russia takes two provinces to peace and to under his control. We are now alone (Ryazan barely fought anything).
'34 December: We decide to try a new solution, and storm Danzig. We barely made progress in the siege, but luck is on our side and we take Danzig. And the Poles are still sieging their capital! The peace treaties give us command of the port. Victory!

1536:

What happened to Holstein? Well, they got isolated after betraying the Polish. They ran in fear from the Danes, but they got them. Though, this time, diplomatically. Holstein was put into the Danish web, along with Russia, Ryazan and Prussia (I forgot to mention it, they were in the war too)... and they are vassalised in this year.

Do you know my plan already? No? Well, of course I plan to take as much of Germany as possible! If Holstein wasn't allied to the scum, I hadn't declared war on Poland at all! But now I can take Pommerania and Holstein at the same time (Though Pommerania must first get out of the Hansa coalition, lasting until '42.). We must also have gotten Christian III sometime. I dunno what "Grevefejden" is, but he must be similar to those crappy russian monarchs, he does the exact some things. (I dunno why, but they stopped eventually though.)

Guys! Won't you just love a screenie? Well, here you are! On the left you see the stats of our colony, Nye Skäne, which we almost forgot about. Scotland started taking England, Austria absorbed Bohemia, Turkey recovered a bit, Russia and Denmark grew, etc. (Yeah, it was taken in 1535, but there were no map changes since)

Seems like your wars went well, although that large Swedish army and their general could have created real trouble, but you managing to get a province still was very good. Danzig is also nice to capture, a port and a trade centre, gives you some money there, also now you can advance into Germany from two directions and that is very clever. Good work

Yeah, my only worries now are, whether or not I will be able to keep Danzig? Because I will fight much for it before the annexation of Pommerania, but if the Polish amass and Pommerania is mine, I might have to give it up. Whatever, only time will show.

Well, TBH this thing is more difficult from the inside than it seems in the AAR. If my military was so jolly, then I could have taken more than a mere Lappland. Or maybe it is just because I always move the land slider to halfway+ and keep it there till land 52. The Poles could have decimated me but they assaulted Russia all the way. So it wasn't all skill and so on.
Sweden, they will be a hard nut. I don't think aggression is an option, they have leaders like 6/5/6/2 and so on and I don't want to get those, even with a tech advantage (I'm barely behind Sweden)

1541:

We got up to infra 4. That means we can now construct a fine arts academy. Not for now though. Might be handy later.

1543:

Well, at least now you can go to another continent for your holiday without ever going into another country. That is, Nye Skane is a town now. The population flocked there fast (why, though? It has grown about 10 times faster than any other colony... is it the Isle Royale issue?) and now the town is up and running. The king himself went there to inspect the place too. But he was disappointed as the fish-producing colony offered nearly just one food, something called "su-shie", apparently from some nation called, the "Japeneese"???
Well, ok, whatever. It's a city. And we cannot produce troops till we appoint a tax collector since its tax value is so low. Dammit.

1549:

Fear Denmark! The first step has been taken to dominate the so-called Germany. Our king is pleased to inform us that Holstein has agreed to become a part of our nation. Hang on... so that court officer with the black cloak and the dagger... he was actually returning from Holstein...

Viva la Denmark, Holstein is annexed. The city offers several things, which are: Access to Hansa, a 40k army stationed in ex-Holstein, and, should Hansa be annexed, it also leads to another path to Pommerania, and Brandenburg.

1551:

Nain followed suit and the town of Nye Sjaelland is now up and running. I love furs.

1554:

Russia declared war on the Teutonic Order. This would be no big deal, but it seems that Prussia has deserted. This allowed us to gain a better ally-the Hanseatic league, allyless until now (for about 6 months in total) is now anne... I mean accepted into our alliance.

And here we have a screenshot about things like Holstein, now Danish, united France, Turkey slandering Venice, etc.

Ok, I nicked some time to post.
1555:

Jean Calvin just appeared and he's already on the roll. The king personally congratulated him as he managed to raise up a rebellious group in the Spanish Lowlands (though, admittedly, only because it was to the expense of a Catholic). The Lowlanders-who call themselves the Dutch, what a foolish name-already got 4 provinces and now are in open war against their former overlords.
Dutch revolution! They manage to find the best alliance of course... Persia is their mate. Well, Dutch ways of thinking.

1559:

The king is dead, long live the King! After a long time of troubles, in one morning King Christian was finally found in his bed-stabbed. The people had no time to mourn, as a new king-Frederik II-self-proclaimed himself as a king. Well, he is indeed better, if just a little bit, than Christian, though he wasn't bad either.
New ruler! Yeah, I don't know jack about Danish history, so I made the story up and assumed Frederik is a pretender who will be liked by everyone. His stats are good-5/4/5-soon 5/4/4 because of an event for 22 months.

1561:

Viva la Denmark! The Hansa are now our vassals! It was all the work of letters exchanged. The letter was like this:

Hello my fellow ruler! How are you? It was a very enjoyable holiday, when I was at yours! BTW, I know that you have a terrible shortsightedness, and our people have invented a cure! Want it?If you reply to this, the Hansa is our vassal.
---
Hail, king of Denmark! Of course I'd be glad to test it out! Let's meet at your palace to discuss it!
---
Did you read the small text?
---
Damn! Well, it may just be worth an eye though. Your cure was brilliant!

Taking advantage of the shortsightedness? We pumped the Hansa with lots of letters then vassalised 'em, way to go united Germany!

1563-64, 1569-70:

These are two Russian-Polish wars, both won by the Russians. In the first, Poland was already warring with an alliance. That alliance had Prussia too. Prussia took Posen in the peace treaty. In the second war, it worked to our advantage, since with Prussia being neutral, and the province of Western Prussia being isolated, we didn't fight more in that war than 5000 recruits. The bad news is, Russia peaced out quick. At least they won stunningly.

1568:

Our king rightfully fears a Swedish attack. This is because, Sweden has a 60k army stationed all in one province. Is this a buildup for a war? Whatever, we see to it that the RM is still going, and will be renewed when expires.

1573:

Interesting events! Apparently, the eye cure was effective, but this time, a letter was sent, with the words scribbled on the back: "If you reply to this, the Hanse and all their lands are ours." Eye cures don't affect smartness, and the Hanseatic ruler clearly lacked it. This means, another step was taken to annex Germanian minors.

The Hanseatic League is annexed! With this, we have another Center of Trade, and we also have taken a step to unify Germany. We can now also get Pommerania and maybe Brandenburg, plus Hannover. Who will be the next?

Screenie!!!! The picture is shabby, Brandenburg does -not- own Pommerania's lands.

Nice work annexing the Hanseatic League, a shame that the Germans haven’t understand the importance of using glasses so that they can read the small letters… But that is very good for you. I would keep the Swedish under watch, they are after all the Danish arch-enemy and an army of 60 000 men is a potential danger…
