From the current internal version we're working on for 1.14..

- Sweden and Denmark no longer starts our as historical rivals.
- Scandinavian Constitution now gives lots of power to denmark, and then creates a rivalry between Sweden and Denmark.
- Skåne, Halland & Blekinge are no longer swedish cores from the start.
- Denmark is now slightly richer at start.

Great ideas by the way. I do want to bring up a few weaknesses of the area which I suspect may not be addressed:

Norway is very easily lost because Denmark tanks prestige and/or because Sweden starts with that one core which makes them prone to reconquest war Norway the moment opportunity presents itself. Would it be possible to kill the Swedish core in Jamtland? This region was conquered by Norway in 1178; the Swedish core is not only unnecessary but arguably quite ahistorical. In game terms that province is so undeveloped anyway that the core doesn't even save THAT much admin. The core forces early war and a conquest of Norway, that really shouldn't take place, as there wasn't hostility from the game's starting point until after Norway was integrated in 1536.

Sjaeland is sniped by non-Swedish attackers. This one is possible elsewhere but seems far and away the most noticeable here. I do like that you can fabricate on a non-isolated capital and take a capital without taking everything else... but this is a little absurd in the opposite direction and Denmark is the worst victim of it. Is anything being looked at regarding this? It's both far more common and absolute more devastating to Denmark than anyone else. Losing Sjaeland is guaranteed death; that sound toll is pivotal to Danish power, especially when trying to hold off Swedish encroachment, and having a nation like Pomerania or Hansa grab it any time they win despite leaving Jutland totally intact just obliterates Denmark and guarantees their inevitable death. I've even seen Pomeranian Sjaeland when Denmark had occupied over half of Sweden after successful Independence wars. Denmark with control of everything west of Finland, and Holstein through to Fyn, losing its cap to a complete minor because the warscore happened to allow it, is really awful.

Swedish ideas are a bit too military frontloaded. Goods produced and -stability comes after admin 10, while the huge inf CA is in traditions and disc comes 2nd idea. If Swedish ideas more closely resembled Brandenburg, with mil stuff being mostly backloaded, it could help to have Sweden not rampage QUITE so early. I don't want Sweden to lose potential, just have them be less mil heavy so early is all I really ask.

Sjaeland again... the sound toll is awesome, and the province is awesome, but the lack of a literal center of trade modifier (eg Constantinople has both) means that it both lacks a development discount (Denmark being one of the most ideal tall play locations) but also far more importantly it means that a sound-toll-ending Lubeck gets more raw trade power, since that DOES have CoT. Maybe it's included with making Denmark slightly richer, if so great, but a CoT modifier, or a boost to sound toll and/or reduction to free shipping through the sound, would be helpful for having Denmark maintain its trade strength.

Great to see that you are looking at the Scandinavian balance! :)

Will you also remove the core on Jämtland from the campaign start, it was only conquered around 1650? (Or do you have it there to create tension?)
It would be best to give Sweden a claim on Jämtland after Norway is integrated, and perhaps a prestige gain boost to Denmark as long as it holds Norway in a PU, to help ensure that Norway is integrated!

Will norway and denmark keep their historical friendship?

how to stop denmark from integrating both in the timeframe?
Historically, Norway WAS integrated into Denmark (reflected in the later historical bookmarks), while some finagling of Sweden's PU status ("Scandinavian Constitution now gives lots of power to denmark" perhaps means it restores a PU ended by an earlier DHE?) combined with the "PU stable for 50 years" requirement for integration could keep that from being too common.

That's still a long time before the game's start - a lot of other occupied areas from that time aren't represented in cores elsewhere in the world at game's start.

And... have you read the rest of the thread? It's been brought up several times that those cores are part of the reason Denmark is usually gone within 50 years of the start...

Because it's bad for gameplay. Sweden having cores there, Gotland, and Jamtland means they are constantly warring Denmark, and often winning, so that either Sweden is all but dead after 2 revolts, or Denmark is all but dead shortly after 2 lost wars.

Also, around that same time frame that Sweden was briefly in control of Scania, you have England in control over places like Paris, and Bohemia with control over massive swathes of central Europe.

Now that historical rivals can be controlled through events, we could make the proper behaviour of Denmark becoming weaker delayed a century..

There is one issue with delaying it a Century; Integration is after 50 years.

That's nice but what about the other scenario? Denmark gobbling up sweden? Won't this make that happen more often? I got to sayI find that equally annoying.

And Sweden.

To be a bit less succinct about it - Sweden declares independence within the first year of the game, usually allied with several other medium-to-large powers. They wreck Denmark and Sweden takes Skane. While or shortly after Denmark gets wrecked, the northern German powers gang up on Denmark and all but destroy it.

You're being disingenuous about it if you're trying deflect blame from the Scanian cores by stating the end result is modern Denmark being occupied by the German minors. Quite a lot of the blame for the end result rests with those cores..

The problem was +50%liberty desire, not the cores since they are missions anyway and they will try to from Scandinavia. They should remove the Form Scandinavia and make it a decision for denmark only. Since I doubt Sweden would ever accept danish culture.

Perhaps giving Denmark a naval boost would help, particularly in preventing Hansa/Pomerania from grabbing the Danish islands, even if they lose to Sweden.

If sweden or norway forms it then the primary culture will be their primary culture. There's no reason it should be denmark only. There should however be a way to knock scandinavia aparat again. If scandinavia were to lose two kingdoms then it's not really scandinavia any more is it?
